What big names are expected to be dealt soon
Darragh McDonald
3:25
Today is your lucky day. MLBTR just published an extensive list of trade candidates.

Thanks for the chat. I am wondering, now that Toronto has flexed its muscle a little, and took down the mighty Yankees rather convincingly. Since they could be obvious buyers at the deadline, are there any signs as to who they might be looking at as targets?
Darragh McDonald
3:27
I should have included this one with the earlier batch of Jays questions. But as mentioned, I do think a starting pitcher will be a big target.

Let’s see, in laws vs. talking baseball with a Canadian. It’s close but I will go with the baseball.  As a bedraggled Yankees fan, isn’t it time to just cut Perazza loose and look to anyone else? Candelario? Lopez? Anyone else at this point? Thanks for the chat!
Darragh McDonald
3:28
Yeah, I think Peraza will be on another club after the deadline.
3:29
I feel like this happens a lot with Yankee prospects. They get brief playing time and struggle, which becomes the justification for their lack of playing time.
Some rebuilding club should just run him out there for the final few months of the season and see what happens.

Hey Darragh, what do you think Mets will do between now and TDL? Positions and quantity and quality. In other words. Go big, go small, or status quo?
Darragh McDonald
3:31
Seems like pitching quantity should be a focus, which is wild since they've already acquired so many arms. But a dozen guys hitting the IL will do that.
3:32
Catcher could be another target area but I don't know what's out there.
3:33
Center field as well.
3:34
There's not really a massive upgrade available for either position, but just a solid regular would work since they already have star talent on the roster.

So what are the Dodgers plans before the trade deadline? Muncy is out six weeks, left field has been a problem and they could use a starter and pen help? Thoughts
Dave
3:34
Will Dodgers trade for third baseman at deadline because of Muncy injury?
Will Dodgers trade for pitching at deadline. If so who? Thanks

i just can’t see how the Dodgers can go into the playoffs with Teoscar as their right fielder.  His defense will cost them.  Simple solution is move him to left field, now.  Get him out of harms way.  But it appears, so far, that their delusion that Conforto will be Conforto, at some point, is the roadblock.
Darragh McDonald
3:35
With Muncy, I guess it depends if the timeline is accurate. They said six weeks. If that's true, he'll be back in plenty of time for the playoffs. Maybe that's optimistic or he suffers a setback, which obviously changes the calculus.
3:36
I am warming to the idea that they will give up on Conforto. A few months ago, it just seemed like he was unlucky. But the longer it drags on, the harder it will be for them to have faith.
3:38
A random guess but maybe they can find a club with an underperforming pitcher and just do a change-of-scenery swap. Sort of the inverse of when they traded away Syndergaard for Amed Rosario a couple of years ago.
3:39
On the pitching side, it really depends on how they feel about their currently-injured guys. In Snell going to be back soon? Glasnow? Sasaki?
If one or two of those guys can come back, the rotation looks fine.

Should the Braves just wave the white flag and aim for a lottery pick?
Darragh McDonald
3:41
I touched on Atlanta earlier but, yes, I think they should sell. It doesn't really have anything to do with the lottery though. Can't rely on that. Just grab as much young talent as you can now in this lost season. If the lottery favors you, that's just a bonus.

Any chance the Phillies get Burton from the Twins  at deadlin?. I know he has a no trade but assuming he would waive it. Give them Crawford and Abel
Darragh McDonald
3:43
I doubt the Twins are looking to move Buxton. Even if they are, it would be more likely in the offseason.

3:43
Is IKF a fit for the Tigers?
Darragh McDonald
3:44
Sure. IKF can fit a lot of places. He can play almost any position and play it well. Perfectly fine utility piece.
Go Dills!
3:44
can the Cubs afford two of Lugo, Severino and Cabrera, plus Suarez
IA Bounty
3:44
With the very recent Taillon injury do you think Hoyer will be more aggressive to bring in a much needed new starter to the Cubs rotation? Boyd and Imanaga are pitching well, and Horton was dominant yesterday, but I would still like to see at least one TOR starter added soon.

3:44
MLBTR suggests Flexen will take starts for the Cubs in place of Taillon. Is Flexen a guy you'd advise fantasy owners to roster?  And what of DidierFuentes? How long will he be allowed to impersonate Ben Brown?
Darragh McDonald
3:45
Cubs should definitely be looking for starting pitching, yeah.
3:46
It's hard to know what to expect from Boyd at this point. He's 34 years old and hasn't thrown this many innings since 2019. If he can hold up, great, but the Cubs probably don't want to be relying on that.
On Lugo, Severino, Cabrera, Suarez thing, can they afford them financially?
3:47
Yes, in the sense that the Cubs are very profitable. They should be acting like a big-market team but refuse to, for some reason.
Their CBT number is also $218MM, per RosterResource. That's more than $20MM below the tax line.
3:49
Suarez is making $15MM this year, so he'll have $5MM left at the deadline. Lugo's CBT will be the same.
3:50
Edward Cabrera is only making $1.95MM this year, so he'll have about $700K left at the deadline.
3:52
Severino is slightly more complicated. 20MM next year plus 22MM in 2027. This year, it's 15MM, which would leave 5MM at the deadline. CBT hit is recalculated at the time of a trade. That's $47MM divided by 2.33 seasons, comes out to just over $20MM. Prorate that for the final third of the 2025 season and it's $6.67.
