Do you think the Mets give Sproat a chance to win the 5th starter spot in spring or keep him in the minors until a spot opens up
Darragh McDonald
3:21
He only has seven Triple-A starts and they didn't go especially well. I think he'll start back there to start 2025.

The Cubs are now shopping the second tier of pitchers . Would Flaherty be the best choice for the Cubs or would it be Eovaldi ? I'm disappointed Fried is out of our price range .
Darragh McDonald
3:23
Flaherty is six years younger and Eovaldi also has plenty of injury history. He's been healthy lately but Flaherty is still just less of a risk.
I picked them to sign Fried on our Top 50 so I'm also disappointed that they are apparently not going there.

Not seeing much regarding Jack Flaherty....Anything out there?
Darragh McDonald

It's been pretty quiet.

Whomst in Boston do I have to hold hostage to get them to trade Casas? He's still thought of as "Elite when healthy" but the "when healthy" part will expire next year. He's topped out at 131 games sometime in the Minors and 125 last year feels like a peak. Sox defense is dreadful and eliminating an awful fielding 1B so they can move Devers should bring back pitching. Seattle would still want more, but it would start a dialogue

Casas and Devers could share first and the DH spot.
3:29
Also, Casas is really good. The health stuff, I don't know if you should be writing him off already. He's not even 25 yet, essentially two MLB seasons, one of which was fine.
3:30
If you're willing to take someone hostage, there are probably better causes.

Do you think the Red's are done adding starting pitching and focus outfield upgrades and bullpen depth? If so who might they be looking at?
Darragh McDonald
3:35
I don't know that they're done with the rotation but I agree that they have bigger needs elsewhere now.

Has Arenado shown any inclination to change positions? I'd imagine he's more than capable of playing 2b and if he'd be willing, what kind of a deal would the Cardinals be willing to pay down his contract and for whom on  the Giants?
Darragh McDonald
3:36
There was a report this week that he's willing to move to first base, but his defense at third is his best attribute now. His offense has been close to league average the past two years.

What team do you feel will be the most active at the Winter Meetings?
Darragh McDonald
3:38
Hmm. Red Sox?
3:39
Lots of reports of them wanting to get more aggressive and they have lots of payroll space.

I know that trading away Bohm is "The Philly Way(tm)" so we're required by Franklin's ghost to do so, but why can't he just play left? Marsh starts in center, with Rojas off the bench for a rotation. Outfield solved, now we can buy a new 3B. Why can't we ever evolve our thinking?
Darragh McDonald
3:41
Castellanos is a poor defender. Marsh is good in a corner but maybe a bit stretched in center. Bohm has no outfield experience and it's hard to imagine he'd take to it immediately with 23rd percentile sprint speed. So, this would be a pretty bad defensive alignment.

Okay, I've got to get moving. Thanks so much for swinging by and sorry for the questions I couldn't get to.
Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend, if that's what you're up to!
And thanks as always for supporting the site!
