Serna was ranked in the 10-20 range in the Yankee system at the time of the deal. Then Abrahan was more of a lottery ticket because he was still a teenager who was still fairly unproven.
Philly A's
1:49
When do you think the A's will bring up De Vries?  Would they move Wilson to 2b?
Darragh McDonald
1:50
De Vries only has 21 Double-A games under his belt, so I doubt it's imminent, but I guess it's possible he has a hot first half and is up in the summer.
1:52
I would guess Wilson gets moved, yeah. His defensive metrics haven't been great so far. He could go to either second or third. Statcast had his arm strength in the 80th percentile this year, so moving to the hot corner should be viable.
Arthur Dent

For the sake of argument, let’s say the Mariners are able to resign Polanco and come up with a decent left handed reliever.  Would they be good to go? Or, do they really need one additional piece like a Brendan Donovan?
Mariner Steve
1:53
2 worries I have:Why would the Mariners feel Polanco can play 2B when he played so little last summer. I would save the money spent on him and sigh Alonso to DH / 1B.
Darragh McDonald
1:54
I think the Mariners are already a really good team today. Any improvements before Opening Day would be nice, but I feel like they're the best team in the division. With the Astros and Rangers having payroll concerns, it's hard to envision a scenario where I don't consider Seattle the favorite as March rolls around.
1:55
Polanco or Donovan would be good. I don't think they would need both.
Donovan would be better since he can play the outfield. If, say, Cole Young and Colt Emerson both have great springs, you could push Donovan to the grass or have a rotation DH situation.
1:56
Speaking of the DH situation, I have a hard time seeing Alonso for that reason.
Signing Alonso would mean you have him and Naylor in the 1B/DH slots every day. That means there's no ability to spread at-bats around to other guys based on who is performing.
1:57
The M's have a number of lineup variables right now. Can Young break out? What about Bliss? What about Emerson? Is Robles going to bounce back? What about Raley? Is Canzone for real? Where does Harry Ford fit in?
1:58
I feel like it's better to have the DH spot open so they can have the flexibility to respond in different ways, depend on how all those questions are answered.

Any chance the Padres trade Tatis? He’d look great in a Mets uniform.
Darragh McDonald
1:59
He has a full no-trade clause through 2028, so I think it's highly unlikely.
2:01
Even if he didn't, the Padres are currently constructed to be this stars-and-scrubs thing where they have a whole bunch of highly-paid but really talented guy anchoring the club. Tatis is not even 27 years old yet and he's still a big part of what they're doing.
I don't really see it unless they hit some kind of wall financially and go into a big rebuild.

I think you missed the question from someone earlier. They asked about the Cards being blown away for Burleson and you answered that 20ish teams would be in on Donovan. I agree Donovan has plenty of suitors, but like that contributor I’m also interested in Burleson’s market. I would prefer the Cards retain him, but if he were traded who might be involved if the Cards need to be blown away.
Darragh McDonald
2:01
Oops. I did misread this.
2:02
I think Burleson is less likely to be moved also because he is controlled for three years and Donovan just two.
2:03
Burleson is a solid piece but he's not a superstar, so I would be surprised if someone blew the Cards away, especially when there are a lot of decent first basemen out there in free agency.
The Ghostly Good Guy
2:03
Who is starting at second base for the Red Sox on opening day?
Darragh McDonald
2:04
I would guess Mayer.
Mr Red Leg
2:05
The Reds need to free up some money. 1 seemingly easy way to clear money would be to trade Jose Trevino and Gavin Lux. Would any team be interested in them at a cheap price of a minor leaguer?  Lux would be a nice bench piece for a team with a higher payroll.  Or, do you think the Reds will trade Tyler Stephenson (unless they are able to extend him).  Also, I know they could trade Brady Singer as well. What kind of return do you think he would get?  To me, trading Singer would be a mistake because he is the only Reds starter that didn't miss any of his starts.
Darragh McDonald
2:06
Trevino's value has to be pretty minimal now. He's never been a good hitter but he was worse than usual in 2025. His defense also regressed.
Today is apparently his 33rd birthday. Happy birthday, Jose! Sorry to be talking about your tough season.
2:08
As for Lux, meh. He was league average at the plate and has some defensive versatility. That has some value but his projected $5MM salary in 2026 is probably about what he'd get as a free agent.
2:09
Stephenson, he's never been a great defender, so I wonder if he should give up on catching. Perhaps his bat could bounce back if he could just focus on that. Right now, he's not too exciting since he's been about average at the plate for three years now.
2:11
I would probably keep Singer as well but I could understand them wanting to make room for Petty and Lowder.

2:13
Maybe you could explain this to me.  How is San Diego, the 8th largest city in the US be a small market?
Darragh McDonald
2:13
I don't think it is considered that small anymore, but it seems like it's grown a lot.
2:14
Population was only about 700K as of the 1970s. Back then, Chicago had about 3.5 million.
Now, San Diego is about 1.4 mil and Chicago 2.7 mil.
Mile Why
2:14
What do you think of the Rockies hiring Schaeffer without interviewing ANYONE else?
Darragh McDonald
2:15
It is a bit weird to not at least sniff around but I kinda get it.
DePodesta is coming in fresh. The GM is gone. Assistant GM is gone. Manager is gone. A lot of coaches gone.
2:16
Schaeffer has been in the org since 2007, when he was a player. He then became a coach and managed his way up the ladder.
He knows the affiliates, has relationships with the players, etc.
2:17
The Rockies aren't going to be focused on winning for the next few years anyways. It's going to be all about player development for the foreseeable future. If Schaeffer seems to have a good relationship with the guys who are there right now, it's fine.
Imai
2:18
Do you think the Cease contract setting the market increases what Imai will get? Makes sense that it would for Framber and probably Ranger, but Imai with the posting fee and having never pitched at MLB, im not sure one way or the other
