Maybe you kind of start in the Germán Márquez ballpark? That's a $43MM guarantee that buys out two free agent years
4:22
It's apples to oranges since Márquez was already a two-plus service guy (one year closer to FA)
4:23
But McClanahan's probably better and there are no apples to compare to. They could absolutely afford it -- assuming he's willing to discuss one at all -- but it won't be easy to line up numbers given the lack of precedent

What is the status of Branden Lowe. I haven't heard much about his injury and status. Do you think he will be back to normal when he's cleared? Please let me know.
Anthony Franco
4:24
Yeah there really hasn't been much update, wouldn't surprise me if he's out until after the All-Star Break
4:25
Adam Berry wrote on Tuesday that Lowe was expected to start taking swings today. Not sure if that's happened as scheduled

As AS voting has started Besides Judge .. any other Yankees AS's ?

Jose Trevino has been killing it so far offensively and is literally the best pitch framer in baseball. Does he make the all star team?
Anthony Franco
4:26
Yeah plenty of candidates for the Yankees. Nestor's going to be there even if he's not the starter. Holmes would have to be absolutely terrible the next month not to get a nod
4:27
Could argue for Taillon, Stanton, LeMahieu, Michael King as well
4:29
Trevino's a little more of a reach just based on the playing time, I think. It's an AL catching group pretty light on known quantities though, and Trevino might have a popularity edge over someone like Jonah Heim though

I recently read an article in The Athletic suggesting the tigers could trade Gregory Soto or Alex Lange this trade deadline. I personally don't see it. What do you think?
Anthony Franco
4:31
I think Soto's more likely of the two but would be surprised if they move either. Not sure either one has enough appeal they'll get the kind of offer they feel like they have to take
Lange has basically no pre-2022 track record. Soto has a good ERA and throws hard but spotty control and isn't striking anyone this year
4:32
There'd be interest in both but it's probably too moderate for the Tigers to move them when they'll want to compete next year

As a Nats fan, hoping for a brisk market at the trade deadline. Any sense yet of the likely impact of more play-off teams: more teams that are buyers OR more teams figuring that they will get a wild card anyway so standing pat?
Anthony Franco
4:33
Can't say at the moment but I think there'll be enough incentive to win the division and get the first-round bye that teams are motivated to add
4:35
Had they just gone to 14 teams with one bye in each league, then a team like the Brewers probably just sits on their hands. But if they're trying to hold off the Cardinals and within 3-4 games of the Mets or Dodgers for a bye now, they should be more aggressive

What's happening with the Yankees rotation? We took 2 of 3 from the Twins, but boy were our starters bad. Think we're falling back to earth?
Anthony Franco
4:35
Just one series against a good hitting team. No concern
Angelpaul
4:35
How can we improve our middle  infield and SP  Maybe we need to part with some prospects
Anthony Franco
4:36
The rotation's ok, bullpen's probably a bigger concern. The only silver lining to having an issue as glaring as the middle infield is it's really not hard to find an upgrade
4:37
Brandon Drury isn't great, but he'll be available for very little and he's better than Tyler Wade
Joey
4:37
also, with higashioka out of options what do the Yankees do when ben rortvedt comes back? He makes for a better platoon option being left handed and higgy has been struggling a lot. They also seemed pretty high on him saying that they felt he was an upgrade over Sanchez. So does higgy get DFA’d ?
Anthony Franco
4:37
Yeah I think Higashioka just gets DFA's

I know you get a lot of gallo trades in the chat but what about this one. Joey gallo for Blake snell. Preller gets the outfield slugger he’s been searching for and gets another Texas player while the Yankees add a solid starter because eventually someone’s gonna get hurt. The salaries are close and they’re both reclamation projects to their own extent and fit needs
Anthony Franco
4:39
Yeah I've actually thought about this one myself. I don't think the Yankees would go for it but I like the idea
4:41
It's a tough sell for a 41-16 team to trade their primary right fielder, particularly for a guy who might not be one of their top five arms either. But man, if they were looking for a way to move Gallo, this would be such a cool framework

4:42
why has my team stopped hitting and taking walks this season compared to last?
Anthony Franco
4:42
(White Sox)
4:43
I have no idea. Moncada seems like he's still not 100%, Pollock's old and maybe just hit a cliff
Grandal being suddenly awful is pretty inexplicable though
Obviously losing Jiménez doesn't help, but it's been rough
joey bart
4:44
after Over his past 30 games (24 of them starts), Bart is hitting just .111/.256/.194 with a staggering 45.3% strikeout rate.
Anthony Franco
4:44
Yeah he needed a reset

MLB released their top 5 picks for the Cy Young so far. How the heck is Neztor Cortes first and Alek Manoah not even on the list?
Anthony Franco
4:45
I haven't seen that article so I don't know but that seems kind of incongruous, yeah
The margin between Cortes and Manoah is razor thin, which is part of the reason it's kind of futile to be doing exercises like that after two months. Have to give guys time to pull away from the pack

What’s up with Gerrit Cole and why is he the worst pitcher on the Yankees’ staff
