Front Office Chat With Anthony Franco

Can't really get excited about either of those guys though

What’s a player who could end up being moved at the deadline in an under the radar move, that could prove to be a great acquisition (a la Eduardo Escobar, Kyle Schwarber, etc last year)?
Anthony Franco
5:07
I wouldn't call Schwarber under the radar. He'd been the NL player of the month in June and would've been a huge trade chip had he not gotten injured
5:08
But anyways, Steve wrote about Garrett Cooper the other day and I think he's an interesting one. Much better hitter than most people realize
Then there'll be some unknown relievers who go but are quite good. Cubs would probably trade Scott Effross, for instance
Rick
5:08
Favorite Survivor player?
Anthony Franco
5:09
Haven't watched a single episode haha. Didn't even realize it was still going until just now
5:10
I don't really do reality TV (or television in general, for that matter)
Cleveland
5:10
Are they for real?
Anthony Franco
5:11
Yeah they're better than I gave them credit. Ramírez is unbelievable, Giménez breakout is huge
I still won't pick them to make the playoffs but they're going to hang around the periphery of the Wild Card/ALC race

How would you rate the futures of KC's Jon Heasley, Tyler Wells, and Brady Singer? Are any of them better than a #4 or #5 starter?
Anthony Franco
5:13
Singer's the one of that group I'm still holding out hope for as a mid-rotation guy. He's always going to get knocked around by left-handed hitters but he should control righties enough to be a #3 type starter
5:14
Wells is a strike-thrower without bat-missing secondaries, 5th/6th starter type. Heasley throws harder but has lesser command. Both depth types probably
Derek Falvey
5:14
What should I do with Sano and who would take him if I traded him?
Anthony Franco
5:16
No one's taking him at anywhere near $10MM+. I'd keep him around as a bench bat but it's not of the question they DFA him entirely with all the younger bat-first guys they already have on the roster

Are injuries way up this year, and longer term as well, or is it something I am imagining?  Of my 62 players in 2 leagues, 15 are now injured.
Anthony Franco
5:17
Not sure. It feels like injuries steadily rise every season but I don't know of a great resource for tracking this stuff empirically. My gut feel is that last season was worse, particularly for pitchers coming off the shortened season?

5:17
Do I get traded this offseason? What would the Angels get in return?
Anthony Franco
5:17
Addressed it earlier in the chat, but I can't see it happening
Chief
5:17
What do you think happens with Bauer?
Anthony Franco
5:19
I'd just be speculating without having access to all the facts that'll be presented at the appeal hearing. I don't mean to dodge your question but I really don't think anyone can answer this right now
SteveM
5:19
Montas and or Castillo. Who has the right ingredients to trade for either one at the deadline?
Anthony Franco
5:20
Any pitcher-needy contender could do it. Even a team like the White Sox with a bottom-tier farm has the talent to pull off one for a year and a half, just depends on demand
5:21
Mets, Dodgers, Twins, Jays jump out as the ones likeliest to have that kind of motivation to me
Don

Thanks Anthony for holding these chats.  How would you classify the strength of each Office Chat presenter?  Who is best for assessing minor league talent?  Who is locked in for assessing trade values?  I think this might be helpful to those of us with questions to best target our questions to the appropriate person running the Chat.
Anthony Franco
5:21
Brad's out fantasy guy, but otherwise, I don't think we're really in these buckets
5:23
Steve, Mark, Tim and I all kind of approach things a similar way. We have different opinions on players at times -- like I discussed with Nimmo earlier, I tend to be higher on the "good player with injury concerns" than they do etc. -- but we don't have a specific prospect expert or anything like that

This chat is longer than Pinocchio's nose if he were a politician. Thanks!
Anthony Franco
5:24
Yeah this one ran for awhile. Probably should've wrapped it up but 20 minutes ago but what the hell, I like the front office chats a lot
5:25
Thanks for all the questions this week and for your support of the site as always!
Feel free to throw stuff at me on Twitter, and we'll do this again next week
Have a good weekend everybody!
