Pickett, Mason and a new No. 3. Trubisky is scheduled to earn $4.5 million in salary and another $1 million in roster bonus in 2024 and $5 million in salary and $1 million in roster bonus in 2025. That's $11.5 million in real money the Steelers will save if they release him. And that's way over the top for a No. 3 QB

It's been an interesting couple of weeks and happy to see MR get a chance to play and be successful.  Who knew he'd run the offense this well?  However let's not forget how dysfunctional and disorganized this team was in losing to AZ and NE at home, and the IND game was pretty bad as well.  What are your thoughts on a coaching staff reorganization during the offseason?  How involved do you think ARII will be in making these decisions?  Which coaches do you think will be retained and which coaches do you think will be released?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
I think Mike Tomlin will be told to make changes to his coaching staff.

Gerry, hope you are picking the Ravens this week because it may be an omen for a Steeler victory since you had them losing the past two weeks.  I had them losing last week too!  Harbaugh should rest most of his starters, what do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
Hey Jay, full disclosure -- I've been horrible picking them all season.

I feel almost certain that we will lose to the Ravens backups (remember Ryan Mallet?) and then watch both Buffalo and Jacksonville lose.  Is there any reason I should have more faith and if so does that faith come in the form of Rudolph, Watt or a miracle job from our ILBs to somehow not allow the Ravens very deep TE room to kill us.
Gerry Dulac
10:24
Wow, I didn't think one person could be so certain in the uncertain world of the NFL

I see Rudolph as insurance if Pickett continues to struggle.  How much competition will there be to resign Mason in the off-season after his display of competence versus the other 2 QBs on the roster?  Hopefully, they release Trubisky.
Gerry Dulac
10:26
There is no question the Steelers will try to re-sign Rudolph after the season. I'm guessing they will simply give him Trubisky's contract, which is about $11.5 million over two years.

What’s the problem with D’Marvin Leal? He’s a third round pick. They sorely need a better pass rush since there are so many holes in the back of the defense.
Gerry Dulac
10:27
That's the problem: He hasn't been good enough to even help them with that. He is one of the biggest disappointments of the season

Happy New Year Gerry!! Great performance on the ilbs coach. Now Myles Jack is playing and in a way he didn’t last year. Thoughts ??
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I thought Myles Jack was fine last year, especially against the run.

The betting line this morning has the Steelers favored by 3.5 and O//U at 36.5.  You gotta take the Ravens with 3.5 and maybe a smaller bet on the over, right?  That line has to move before kickoff.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
If you say so.

How does being relegated to backup bode for Kenny Pickett's future? Does the team realize with the sample size they have that he is not the franchise QB they thought they drafted in the 1st round and they move on in 2024 or are we faced with another year of mediocrity and he is crowned the starter again next year with a journey man QB added on the cheap in free agency?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
I don't think it affects his future at all. He will be their QB in 2024.

There must have been a person or persons who had a relatively negative view of Mason Rudolph’s abilities within the Steelers organization. There had to be a reason that Rothlisberger was brought back for a lame duck year, Trubisky was signed, a first rounder was chosen, and Mason was made third string even though he won the quarterback “competition” - all of which buried Mason’s chance to start for the Steelers. Who do you think is responsible for keeping Mason down all this time and why?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
I think it's the guy in charge of deciding who plays
Jeff
10:29
Your thoughts on the Ravens, who they rest and how hard they will buy in on a victory seeing as the only benefit is basically rivalry at this point.
Gerry Dulac
10:31
John Harbaugh would be really stupid to play Lamar Jackson or Roquan Smith or any of their other top players. Of course he wants to win the game, but not at the expense of jeopardizing their playoff chances as the No. 1 seed.

comment .. not a question .. what “fun” to watch the Steelers offense last 2 games… Mason is comfortable in the pocket .. sees the field well ..there is so much energy … happy for Mason .. wherever he goes next!
Gerry Dulac
10:31
He will be back I'm sure.

Do you think Minkah and Roberts could be ready for playoffs in case we make it ??
Gerry Dulac
10:31
Yes. There's a chance they could play in Baltimore. Might be small, but there's a chance.

Greetings Mr. Dulac.  Clearly someone is lying in regards to Pickettgate.  Who are you inclined to believe?  Kenny saying that if he was healthy he would have started is bonkers to me.

Gerry: last week in one of your responses, you alluded to the Steelers being very good (I think you even said the best) at cap management.  Why do you feel this way?  All 32 teams get under the cap.  The Steelers haven't lost that many players that they wanted to keep, but they haven't had that many players that anybody else wants for years.  They are already $7.4m OVER next year's cap and need starter level additions at OT, C, 3rd WR, DL, ILB, CB, nickel CB, SS, and punter before we even talk about QB!!!  The cap management in my view has been horrendous.  Chuks, Ogunjobi, Trubisky, Wallace, Peterson, Heyward, Cole, arguably both guards, Robinson - good lord, Holcombe are just a few examples of players being paid way, way more than their market replacement value.
Gerry Dulac
10:33
When did you ever see them have a fire sale that has crippled other teams?? When have you ever seen them not re-sign one of their stars/core players?
Lou
10:34
Hi Gerry. Of course I’m happy to see the Steelers winning…BUT Mason now has two good games on tape and he’s playing the Ravens. Do you think, win or lose, he is about to get “exposed” for whatever weakness kept him on the bench all this time?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
You are living in your fears. Everyone thought that last week and what happened??. Of course this can't keep up every week. You can't expect 30+ points and 100+ passer rating EVERY week, unless it's the 49ers.

Jerry Happy New Year!!! Is there any way we can get a New punter before this season ends.  PH does not help our cause when it comes to field position.  Other teams have a punter who can flip the field position.
Gerry Dulac
10:37
No. Hey, he punted only one time in Seattle. Now that's an effective punter!!

10:37
My vague recollection is that I remember reports from camp saying that Mason was our best looking QB. Is that accurate or is my memory playing tricks?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Those reports were mostly in 2022 when there was an alleged (falsely advertised?) open QB competition. But Mike Tomlin was determined to use a more mobile, athletic QB. Mason always looks good.

10:38
Hello Gerry and happy new year! Do you think either Faulkner or Sullivan (or the Sully-Faulk combo) will be given a fair shot at running the offense next year, if the current offense continues to churn out points and yards? Or will the pressure to hire an outside OC be too much, regardless of the offensive output down the stretch?
Gerry Dulac
10:39
Truthfully, I do not, but Mike Sullivan has done a very good job with the play-calling.

Mason's performance is Mitch's ticket out of town?  Can't imagine we spend that kind of money on Mitch next year???
