See earlier answer, but that is correct

Do you see Patrick Peterson with the team next year or being cut this offseason? If he’s with the team, think he is full time at safety next to Minkah?
Gerry Dulac

Yes. And more than likely. That's best for him

Mornin’ Gerry,  Every time 14 gets the ball, my wife, who is a new Steeler fan, jumps up and yells “hold onto the ball!”…is anyone else nervous about a disastrous turnover at exactly the wrong time?
Gerry Dulac

She's living in her fears, too. Calm her down.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  Why do the Steelers (and maybe other teams) start or hang on to guys just because they were first round picks.  Burns, Bush and now maybe Pickett.  Lets face it after about the 10-15th pick it is a bit of a crapshoot.  For every TJ Watt you get Artie Burns.  For every Heyward you get Bush.  Admit you made a mistake instead of making another mistake by clinging on to something that isn't there.  I hope Pickett gets better and is the guy but it is crystal clear this team is pretty darn good (or at least good) with a QB that can go downfield.  I worry we are going to see this again next year and like every other first round pick we will wait too long to move on

I would not put Pickett in a category with Burns or even Bush. Certainly not yet. He will get one more year to prove he is the guy with whom they want to go forward. After that, they will make a decision.

Is Justin Fields an option if he is put on the market at the end of this season?
Gerry Dulac

I will tell you what I tell everyone who asks about Justin Fields -- when he was coming out the Steelers LOVED him and would have taken him if he were still there when they picked, which, of course, he wasn't.

So, MR is drafted in the 3rd round with a first round grade. Big Ben immediately pouts and then seemingly ignores Mason through the rest of his time here. Mason has his chances, things did not go well over all but he did play reasonably well at times. He stays on the team, never really gets another opportunity, until now and with a small sample size looks at least like a very capable back up. No other team wanted him last year, not surprising as he has had nothing on tape for almost two seasons. The question is, who in the Steelers organization was not paying attention to this QB who has been in the room this entire time?
Gerry Dulac

They were determined they wanted a different style QB to compete in today's NFL, i.e., a more athletic, mobile one that Rudolph. That's what they were paying attention to. How's that looking now?

Jerry, can you help me better understand this?  A lot of people have said that Mason should have started much sooner and that was the problem with the offense.  How does the termination of Canada play into the improvement of the offense?  No one is talking about that aspect.  What do you say? You are the dean of sports journalists and your opinion would help to clarify this.

Well, the offense wasn't exactly flourishing in those three straight losses to Arizona, New England an Indy, was it? And that was after Canada. It all comes down to Rudolph, who may not have been crazy about the OC but didn't have a huge problem with his offense. And I don't think I have to remind you that this is still Canada's offense. It's just that the play-calling by Mike Sullivan is different and the execution by Rudolph has been superb.

OK kids, have to go to the locker room, so that's all the time we have today. Let's do it again next week. On to Baltimore!
