Gerry, during the great QB hoak of 2022 you consistently reported that Mason looked the best of the 3. Why do you think they gave him zero first team reps that spring/summer?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
You have me confused with other media people who think they need to say that stuff. While I thought Mason looked very good with the second- and third-teamers, I do not rate QBs in practice

Hey Gerry, Lots of criticism out there for Tomlin regarding playing time for Mason Rudolph. What do you think of the theory that Tomlin and the FO could see that Mason is good but not great to the level of leading a team to a Super Bowl. They drafted Pickett in the hope/expectation that he could do that and make the special play with the game on the line. It’s the fans’ perspective that has actually changed though, not Mason. After being bludgeoned with such bad offense and a strong dose of Tomlin fatigue, we’re doing wheelies over a couple of 30 point games, some accurate passing over the middle, and some long touchdowns. If Mason leads the Steelers to a SB, then whack away at your Tomlin piñatas. Until then, I’m not sure you can really blame Tomlin for trying to be better than a team that loses in the first or second round every year. (You can blame him though for some questionable stubbornness on Canada …).

There's a reason they brought in Trubisky and drafted Pickett over Rudolph -- because Tomlin was enamored with the notion that mobile QBs were the wave of the NFL future. Think back: That's all he talked about during the 2021 season. They wanted QBs who were more athletic and mobile than Rudolph. That's the reason

Is there any truth or lead to Tomlin walking away this offseason? When would such decision be announced?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
I can't answer that. Like I said earlier, all I know is that has never been discussed with or mentioned to the Steelers hierarchy.

Against my better judgement I listened to Coach T's presser yesterday...hoping to hear a word of praise for Mason Rudolph. None were forthcoming. It almost seems to me that Mason's success has been very inconvenient to Coach T. My question.....if Mason has opened a new market for his services elsewhere (and I'm sure he has) why in the world would he want to stay here. Money being equal for the sake of argument. The last so-called "open" competition was a farce. Those who are ignorant of history are doomed to....well, you get the gist.
Gerry Dulac
10:26
My favorite is when he says "Mason has a lot of confidence in himself." I'm still waiting to hear him add, "And so do we." I'm still waiting.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks again for the chats. One variable no one can predict in the Buffalo game is the number of low/bad snaps from #61 that can kill drives and lead to turnovers. Do you think Rudolph will be under Center more than usual to cut down on bad snaps in the bad Buffalo weather?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I don't think he will be for that reason. Maybe because they want to run the ball more. But I don't think they will change how many times he's in the shotgun.

Will Mason Rudolph become Kurt Warner or Scott Mitchell?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
Maybe somewhere in between. But Mason never played Arena football.

How invested do you see the Steelers being this offseason with getting CB's? Do they feel Trice could pull a Calvin Austin and come back next year to contribute?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
That is part of their plan. He is a BIG corner, and he develops that will be a plus.

Hi Gerry, Will there be significant coaching changes on the staff this year...both offensive and defensive?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I don't know how "significant," but I think there will be changes. The biggest, of course, would be OC.

Gerry, I love when the Steelers win but do you think these past 3 weeks erase the struggles this team has had this season and past seasons operating as a average football team in the owners s
Gerry Dulac
10:29
It should erase, but it might ease. To me, though, you look at the big picture, and the big picture is they needed those last 3 wins to be a 10-7 team. That's not good enough.

Response to your response to my theory on Mason Rudolph being held back in NFL due to Myles Garrett's bogus accusation: I'm saying that despite Mike Tomlin's original defense of Mason in saying Garrett's slur never happened, that he was affected, as was the rest of the league. There is no other logical explanation for Mason being buried in a quarterback hungry league.
Gerry Dulac
10:30
Thanx for the amplification. My answer is still the same.

10:30
Given the early weather forecasts for the game and Warren's ball security struggles in Baltimore, do you anticipate an even healthier dose of Najee?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
I think you will see it similar to last week, but don't discount Warren getting his snaps, too. Now, if he fumbles again....

Happy New Year Gerry. How are player evaluations made in this organization? Does Tomlin have the final say? After Rudolph was drafted they had all kinds of praise for him. His development was poorly done, IMHO. Now he is the best QB on the team. What gives.
Gerry Dulac
10:32
He is the best quarterback right now. Don't forget they had all kinds of praise for Kenny Pickett too, and we'll see how that plays out. Tomlin might have the final say, but only about the players put in front of him by the GM and asst GM

10:32
Do you get the sense Gerry that Picketts standing in the locker room has changed?  He seemed mature and confident even when struggling and seemed like a true team player before his injury?  Thanks for your perspective!
Gerry Dulac
10:34
His standing in the locker room, whatever that is, hasn't changed. But I've had a but of a problem with a couple things he has publicly said lately, including saying he learned nothing while watching from the sideline. Which second-year player doesn't learn something every day, whether in meetings, practice or especially a game???
Red Grange
10:34
Gerry, is it now assumed to be a no brainer to give NH the 5th year option? Or does the issue still warrant use of some gray matter?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
I wouldn't go that far. We'll see
Rocky,
10:34
Hello Gerry,  do you think the problem with Calvin Austin is it's too hard to get him the ball due to size, position, or other?  Why do you suppose a WR3 would not be targeted?  Thanks for your chats!
Gerry Dulac
10:35
I wish I had a good answer for you because I've been baffled why he doesn't get some targets
Game on!
10:35
Question I've been meaning to ask for weeks but what's the nature and status of Neal's injury?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
It was originally listed as ribs, but it's more than that. That's why he's on IR and is not supposed to return
Andrew in ATL
10:36
Looks like weather, particularly the wind will be a factor for the game on Sunday. How do you expect the Steelers to alter their defensive game plan for those conditions?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
I don't think they alter their defensive game plan until they see if Buffalo alters their offensive game plan.
Cameron_in_NC
10:36
Gerry who do you think is/are key player/s on defense this Sunday for the steelers to be close
Gerry Dulac
10:38
To me, in big games, it's always the stars, the veterans. So 97, 56, 39, 20. But how well Nick Herbig and Markus Golden can help with outside pressure will be key too
Game on!
10:38
Am I the only one who seems to think that the Tomlin leaving talk seems to shape a narrative around a young Steelers team in a week where they're decidedly big underdogs on the road?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
It has no effect whatsoever. Just on the fans.
Jake
10:39
I want Mike Tomlin to be here as long as he wants. Hindsight is the biggest finger wagging tool all of us fans have or use. Let’s now create a list, who are your top 5 Pittsburgh media members? Now this is interesting
Gerry Dulac
10:39
I don't rate media members because they're all lining up behind No. 1
