If coach T steps away from the Steelers as reported, who’s some of the best options to take his place?
Gerry Dulac
10:39
Hadn't even thought about it.

Hey Gerry what if the steelers win but Rudolph has a very poor game. Would they go with Pickett the following week?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I don't think they win if Rudolph has a poor game. I think they win because Rudolph had another good game.

Hi Mr Dulac, thanks for your chats…does P PH3 ever shank punts during practice? With the number of practice reps you’d think he gets, probability says ‘yes.’ You would think he’s been given the coaching needed to correct it by now, so with little to show for that….will the team move on this offseason? It’s a business.  Also, when will the O, when inside the 10, install a corner of endzone fade jumpball to Pickens or goal line jumpball to Mt Washington?
Gerry Dulac
10:42
You would be surprised how little he punts in actual "game" situations in practice. But it doesn't matter what happens with a kicker/punter in practice when nobody is coming after them or nothing of significance is on the line. It matters in game situations with how they handle the pressure of performing in big situations. Lots of guys look good in practice.

I finally was able to cheer for our team these last three games instead of wallowing in the misery from the offensive incompetence the majority of the season. I can't fathom having to again watch Pickett as a terrible QB to start to the 2024 season.  Is there any chance at all Tomlin will buck the trend and truly allow for a QB competition, whether that be Mason or one thats not on the roster?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
I doubt he will. He and the Steelers feel they have a lot invested in Pickett and he will come back as the starter. There will be no open competition. That being sad, he will get one more year to prove himself and then...

I heard practice today has been moved to Acrisure. I like the idea but would like your thoughts on why they'd do it.
Gerry Dulac
10:44
Probably because of the condition of their outdoor practice fields

Gerry, if this Jay guy knows Tomlin so well, you think he would know that Washington DC is not the VA Beach area, no?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
Bingo
Rip Wheeler
10:45
Gerry, do you think the steelers could go back to Pickett if Rudolph screws up against the bills? Say like a couple first half turnovers or even just a poor game as a whole but still find a to win with the defense and run game.
Gerry Dulac
10:45
I hope not. Dance with who brung ya

Do the Steelers value #22 enough to pick up his 5th year option?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
That's what we're going to find out. But he does have three consecutive 1,000 yard seasons and, as Tomlin likes to say, is built for this time of year. He has also been very durable for a guy who takes the punishment he does.

Gerry, appreciate the chats as always. What do you think is the biggest reason George Pickens was saying and doing all the right things during and after the Baltimore game despite not getting targeted once?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
Must be a team guy

Statistically, Buffalo has a much better defense than Steelers have offense. What can Pgh do to neutralize the Bills' defense? Do they have any weak spots or notable injuries?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
The Bills aren't THAT good on defense. Lot of injuries. It's nice to think the Steelers will run the ball, but success will depend on Rudolph doing what he did last week in the mess in Baltimore -- completing a high percentage of short to medium passes. And that will require some amount of pass protection.

Hey Gerry, thanks for the chat…do you think Tomlin does an open competition at QB between Mason and Kenny next training camp? I feel that a true open competition is warranted at this point, what’s your take?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
I do not. Kenny Pickett is their QB for one more year, like it or not

Gerry, a hypothetical for you: Would the Steelers have a better chance to win this Sunday with their actual situation (No Watt, Rudolph at QB), or a healthy Watt, but Pickett under center, playing the way he did for the majority of the year?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Not with that last option. They are where they are because of Mason Rudolph. He has changed the entire complexion and confidence of the team, on both side of the ball.
Rip Wheeler
10:50
Gerry, what chance do you give the steelers to actually slow down Josh Allen and the bills this week?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
Of course they have a chance. The weather might help too. Plus, it's not exactly like the Bills are putting up a lot of points during their 5-game win streak. Allen's turnovers have a lot to do with that.

Gerry, if Minkah plays this week, do you expect him to be on a snap count? How much can the Steelers reasonably expect from him if he does go?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
I don't think so. If he is healthy enough to play, he will play the vast majority of the time. It's win or go home now.

Does Mason have enough zip on his fastball to throw in the windy conditions likely in Buffalo?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
yes he does
Rip Wheeler
10:52
Is Mason Rudolph the future franchise QB gerry? Is it over for Pickett? Do you think it should be over for him? Or does he deserve another chance?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
He will get one more year and then....

Did you notice how Tomlin goes out of his way to throw accolades to Eric Rowe, Mile Jack, etc for how they stepped up but when it comes to Mason Rudolf, his energy deflates and he just acknowledges "he does a nice job".  I suspect he knows he not the long term answer and so he's simply protecting Picket.  Its a shame - The splash plays are great but this turnaround was fueled by competent QB play plain and simple.

Gerry, Hello! Did Mike Tomlin cost Joey Porter Jr. serious Defensive Rookie of the Year consideration by not making him a full-time starter until Week 7, or was that approach part of the reason Porter has thrived this year?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
Mike Tomlin doesn't -- nor should he be -- concerned about players winning awards.

Fill in the blank: The Steelers won in Buffalo despite a struggling run game, thanks in large part due to ...

Scoring more points?
That’s the fact Jack
10:53
Gerry, I think folks underestimate the Steelers.  The Steelers of the last 3 weeks are rolling.   Bills are 1 win better.   I give them a decent shot at winning in Buffalo.   What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
Agreed
