I hit send too soon🤣🤣 Now, for my question(s): What will your future look like after May? Who stays/leaves the Steelers from both player, and staff, who do you see as the top candidate over all, and what happens with Mike Tomlin. Again, God bless, and thank you!
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Well, my future looks a little clouded after May, the 3rd in particular. That's when the Post-Gazette says it's shutting down. As for the Steelers, there will be moves -- both among coaches, of course, and players. I will say this -- nobody is untouchable, short of a couple young off and def linemen

Gerry, thank you for the years of information and insight on the Steelers and providing this fan base with the best reporting any fan base has on their NFL team. I hope the PG figures things out so we don't lose this resource. Have you heard if Tomlin's decision was his alone or was there more to it? If history is any indication, the next coach will be in late 30's/early 40's, that hasn't been a HC in the league but has been a coordinator. Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
I do. And I would even dare to say young 30s. And thanx for the well-wishes

Hey Gerry. Thanks for doing the chats. Ray didn’t answer my question yesterday, so I am posting it here today. Do you think the Steelers offensive woes were because our receivers were unable to create separation? Along with that, I think the low usage of Friermuth limited the offense even more. Hopefully, the next head coach isn’t afraid to have their QB throw across the middle.
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I can't imagine Ray not answering that question.

Gerry, talk about the ultimate didn't expect to have this as a chat topic Wednesday! I guess the big question is will the Steelers go for a young coordinator who is up and coming similar to all of their previous coaches since 1969, or do they take advantage of an unprecedented draft with several experienced people including two coaches who have been coach of the year? Does the current slightly inexperienced front office change the coaching search dynamic? Would they look for someone with more experience or just completely wipe the slate clean with a newer coach? Hope everything works out with you and the rest of the staff and the post-Gazette continues in some way. I live on the other side of the state now and still read the post-Gazette.
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Thanx man! I don't think they have any interest in hiring a former NFL head. I sure hope not. I think they will follow the template they established in 1969

Good morning Gerry.  At one time, I believe the Steelers were criticized (Rod Woodson) for letting veteran players walk maybe a bit too early.  It seems now we have gone the other direction and are hanging on, signing older veterans  and their play in games 18 and beyond starts to slow down. Do you think it's time to get back to the old philosophy and trade aging vets that may have value before Father Time finally wins?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
I think that is always a good philosophy. I think they missed the boat last year, tho, with one of them

Do you think the new head coach, whomever it may be, will have his chance to hire his own staff? Or will Art and Khan want to keep Smith, Austin, etc in place? I know Cowher only retained Dick Hoak
Gerry Dulac
11:14
He will, but if there are some coaches they want retained, they will keep them, though not very many. Tomlin was told he was keeping LeBeau, Arians, Butler and a few others

Do you think Tomlin will ever coach again or is he done?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
I would be surprised if he didn't. He's a football junkie who loves the game

Good morning Gerry.  88s usage this year was absolutely coaching malpractice.  Let's just hope the new regime changes that!!!
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Agreed

DK hardly looks like a true #1 receiver and his history of drops and questionable on field behavior followed him to Pitt. Any chance Steelers will exercise option to void some of his money?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
I never thought he was. Thought he was a very good No. 2

Good Morning Gerry.  WOW!  MT no longer... mixed emotions, Surprised, uncertain, but this had to happen.  Two quotes of Tomlin this year really kind of cemented the decision to move on (I really don't think his resignation was one sided).  After one of the losses, MT said that his game plan expectation is that someone makes a play and that didn't happen.  The other was just after the Houston loss.. He said (paraphrased) with the caller of players Houston has you don't need to do much but get them play.  I think this sums up what we have witnessed the last 10 years. Tomlin brought in aging stars, due to missing on so many drafts, constantly going with experience vs developing young players, with the belief that somehow, something happens in a game.  Hope isn't a strategy but that seems to be how he ran the Team.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
Well, let's be fair, he ran it into five playoff appearances in six years.

Hi Gerry. In your opinion, is this the top HC opening this off season or is it Baltimore, or possibly one of the other teams? Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
The teams with young QBs -- Giants, Falcons -- are attractive. But, by every other measure, the Steelers job is A1
Jeff M
11:19
Many are saying the Steelers HC opening is the most attractive because of stability. Do you think the tendency they have for smaller staff or unwillingness to pay top of market for most desired canadadites could impact their search? The Bears set a high bar by paying Ben Johnson $14m.
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Their staff isn't that small. And they were paying Tomlin a nice piece of change, so they're not cheap.

Hi Gerry, sorry to hear about the Post Gazette closing but hoping to continue to read your work on another platform unless you choose to call it a career. I thought that the Texans was the worst matchup the Steelers could have drawn. Their defense might be the best since the 2000 Ravens. Would you put them at that level if they win the Lombardi?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
I thought it was too. But, after the way CJ Stroud performed, I don't think he's capable of doing that.

11:20
Hi Gerry, should we expect the unexpected in this coaching search?  While we fans look at hot coordinator names, etc., I am guessing Art II will do what his father did and look for the substance of the man they are choosing to lead beyond his football bonafides.  Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
I believe that to be exactly the case.

Hi Gerry. Some in the national media has the Steelers as one of the least attractive destinations because they don't have a QB. They do however say the Steelers have the best ownership (patience). Do you believe the next coach and Omar will try to maintain mediocrity while they look for a franchise QB or do they tear it down (maybe trade some vets, TJ?) and rebuild?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Once again, don't listen to the national media
Hank
11:21
With Tomlin resigning does that mean that all of his assistance also are let go?
Gerry Dulac

Some are still under contract, so we'll see

Good Morning Gerry.  Well we finally saw a historic defense on the field at Acrisure Stadium.  Too bad they were wearing the opposing jerseys.  Here is to hoping we can get back to that style of defense!
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Amen

11:22
Gerry,  In your after the game interview, you didn't think Tomlin was going to step down.  How do you feel about the news?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
I'm not shocked, but I am surprised. I think 99.9 percent of the people were too, including his own players

Hello Gerry, We can dream, can't we, that as winter gives way to spring, as the changes to the Steelers begin to take shape, that the course will be set, with Art instead of Dan at the helm, as sails set at full mast, toward our next Super Bowl run? Eternal Steeler Optimist

11:23
Do you think they'll look at Stefanski? Always thought he was a very good coach and don't think he was the problem in CLE. A Stefanski, Daboll, Schwartz staff could be a really good coaching staff, assuming neither get HC opportunities elsewhere, Schwartz and Stefanski want to remain together, and Stefanski thinks Daboll would be a good OC to develop a young QB. Have you heard if they have any interest in Chris Shula?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
I think you can expunge that thought
