Looking ahead to the draft, I don't see a 1st round QB outside of Mendoza. Will the Steeler reach for one or go get another position of need like WR, OG, or S? Would love a trade up for Caleb Downs.
Gerry Dulac
11:24
I don't think they are going to reach for a QB, though they want to find one. Otherwise,  not only should WR be the No. 1 pick, there should be two in the top 4
Steeler Joe
11:24
Hey, Gerry … how does the hiring process work? Will Khan have a key role in the decision-making?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
He'll have a role for sure. But one man will make the call.
Tom
11:25
What are you looking for in the new coach? What is more important...the new coach or what coordinators the new coach can bring with him?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Both
Arthur not Art
11:25
Hi Gerry. So the portion of the fan base that wanted Tomlin out got their wish. Do you think they will regret it in a couple of years?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Those people seem to have a lot of regrets in general

Do you see the Rooney's looking more for a defensive or offensive minded coach? Do you think the Steelers may  "blow it up" and trade players such as Watt, Highsmith, Ramsey, Hayward, and just start completely over?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
They are not going to "blow it up," but like I said earlier, nobody is untouchable with the exception of some of their young OL and DL
Chill Dave
11:26
Hi Gerry, does the Rooney's patience and Steelers' mystique make this the 2nd best HC job available behind the Ravens (bc of Lamar)?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Might be the 1st

Hi Gerry. I know defense can still win games in the NFL (see Texans). But the teams who are usually at the top are the ones who can regularly score a lot of points. Is it time for the Steelers to bring in an offensive minded head coach like McVay or make sure a defensive minded head coach bring in an innovative OC and turn him loose?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
That's going to be a big part of it. I think Mike McDaniel as OC is a great move

11:27
This should close the door on Rodgers returning.  What should their strategy be for finding a starting QB?  Draft, FA, both?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
It won't be FA, not as a starter
Arthur not Art
11:27
Hi Gerry, was Tomlin's decision based on him wanting a break or was there a discussion with ARII about Tomlin giving up some control that he didn't want to accept?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I don't think it had anything to do with control.

Good Morning Gerry.. Wow! what a week in Steelers country.  Names and candidates aside.. Which way is gut leaning for HC?  Offense or Defensive minded?  I'd love to see Flores or Randel El.. Cheers!
Gerry Dulac
11:28
I think you can scratch both
DT
11:28
Hey Gerry, hope all is well! Was Art caught off guard by Tomlins decision? Or did they have an agreement depending on the outcome of the season?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
There was no agreement, best I can tell. But I'm always checking

This will be the first time since the 1960s Dan Rooney will not select the next HC. Will Art be as patient as his father, especially if the new coach does not have early success like Cowher and Tomlin had? Or could the Steelers enter a new phase with more frequent coaching changes? This fan base can get prickly without success.
Gerry Dulac
11:30
Well, Cowher tied an all-time record by making the postseason his first six years in the league. Abd Tomlin made the postseason his first year, won the Super Bowl his second and fourth year. That will be tough to match, but, hey, who knows
Takoma Tom

Steelers need an offensive minded HC.  What about Stefanski?  If he can win 11 games twice in Cleveland he can win anywhere.  It’s would also be an Insult to the browns when he wins playoff games here.
Gerry Dulac
11:30
I think the next OC should be a former head coach, just like Arthur Smith and Todd Haley. Same with defensive coordinator. Just not the head coach
Takoma Tom
11:30
I heard that Belichick wants the HC job and Jordan would be HC in waiting.

11:31
Do you have any sense of a time frame for when the Steelers would like to pick the new head coach?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
I would imagine by the end of the month. Noll was hired on 1/27, Cowher 1/21 and Tomlin 1/22
SMP
11:31
I heard on Florio show that even if Tomlin sits out 3 years, past his existing contract tenure, teams would still owe Steelers compensation. Do you know if that is correct. I thought if he sat out 2 years, he was clean to sign with whoever with no compensation.
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Once again, wrong
Art from NC
11:32
Hi Gerry- Great work from you this season as always! With drafting 21st, and the QB class very thin, do you think the best way to go is to get a top WR and a DB, and roll with Mason next year? I believe with a 21st century offensive coordinator who can tailor the offense around him, Mason would be a suitable bridge for the time being? Thanks and good luck to you.
Gerry Dulac
11:32
I don't think that's the plan

11:32
Gerry.  How long will it be before the next Steelers head coach gets blamed for winning with Tomlin's players?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Haha

Thanks for the chat. I’m sure that it is a redundant question by now, but here it is anyway. New head coach: how do you expect them to address it, how do you think they should address it and is the current GM safe?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
The current GM is safe
JohnK
11:33
Did Tomlin resign on his own or was he pushed? Did he get any money to resign?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
I have no evidence he was pushed, but you never know
