The league is filled with delusional players
Harry
10:23
No way they keep Broderick Jones at Right Tackle next year, right? Conversly Moore at LT?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Wrong

. In my opinion the season was a disappointment and possibly a setback for the future but was doomed from the start based on one decision. I understand that there are injuries, bad breaks, poor choices, the weather and referee obstacles to overcome during a season that can lead a possible playoff team not reaching their highest potential. This team however was doomed from the start by the decision to retain Matt Canada before it even started. Do you agree that this failure of a decision also may set this team back for the next year or 2   due to the defense getting older and QB questions continue with no real solution or optimism at this time.
Gerry Dulac
10:24
I'm not going to argue with you at all. In fact, I might be inclined to pay you.
Jake
10:25
Did you shudder when BP ask Coach about his contract?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
Shudder isn't the word, though the question wasn't completed because Tomlin was already out the door
Cone
10:26
Jerry, do you have any information on the Cory Trice Jr injury situation. I know he looked good in camp but so did Calvin Austin before his season ending injury. Do you think Trice can be a major contributor next year? I would hate to spend money on FA or high draft pick for DB when there are so many other needs especially D Line.
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I wouldn't predict that a seventh-round choice will be a major contributor, but they kept him around for a reason because they really like his size and speed. But, to your point, yes, they are hoping he can be a contributor, if not an asset, next year. But he has to show he can be.

10:28
Who starts in 2024 and who’s his back up?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
At which position?
Zach
10:28
Thanks for the chats Gerry, are you hearing that it will be status quo at QB with Rudolph and Kenny next year or is there a bigger move/name on the horizon?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
I don't see a bigger name coming in, unless Rudolph decides he wants to go elsewhere in free agency. Then there will be some type of move.
Jake
10:29
All the inside linebackers that were brought in this year and got hurt, are they young enough and healthy enough to be counted on next year?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
Kwon Alexander is not exactly young. But Cole Holcomb is, though that was a major injury he sustained to his knee. Not sure what his status will be when training camp rolls around. Elandon Roberts isn't young (29), but man was he impressive when the other two were injured.

Gerry. I know that Tomlin doesn’t like Rudolph because he’s not as mobile as Tomlin would like. But haven’t some of the greatest quarterbacks in history, been pocket passers such as Manning and Brady.
Gerry Dulac
10:33
Yes, of course, but Tomlin's belief is the game has changed and so has the position. He believes mobile QBs are more necessary now because of the speed and athleticism of the defensive linemen/edge rushers

The go to.fan’s cliche is “he didn’t have them ready.” Whatever that means. But a common denominator in these losses is turnover ratio. There was a 14 point swing in those early two Monday. How to do you fix that?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
Not turn the ball over. You can talk about it all you want, just as you can talk all you want about creating turnovers. But talk doesn't prevent them or create them. Pickens fumble was a result of trying to dive and gain more yards. Rudolph's interception was a result of a very good play by the DB. The problem wasn't just the turnovers; it was the defense failing to stop the Bills from capitalizing on them, especially a 52-yard scramble run by the QB

Thanks for the chats, Gerry!!  As I’m sure is the case with the Steelers, I’ve racked my brain over a solution for the most important position in football, QB.  There is no easy answer here.  What’s your prediction (purely guess at this point, no one knows) on the route they “prefer” - Justin Fields (for a 2nd and 25M/yr), Kirk Cousins (35M/yr), 1st round pick (highly unlikely), Pickett, or prioritize Mason for a Pickett/Mason competition?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Believe me, they are not going to throw that kind of money at a QB like Cousins, or even entertain bringing him in at any price. Pickett is their guy for at least one more season. They are not ready to give up on him. And I don't forsee a Pickett/Rudolph open competition at all, either. That's assuming Rudolph wants to come back

Based on your opinion and interactions, does Kenny strike you as arrogant or immature?  He wouldn’t speak after the Bills game, has said he can’t learn anything from the sidelines, and can’t admit he was benched. Can he be a team leader with that attitude, and does it relate to what Najee said?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I get your question, but I will point up he is not required to speak after the Bills game, not as a backup. But his answer about not learning from the sideline and saying he was going to be the starter if healthy (which he was not) smacked of something, though I'm not sure what.

Good morning Gerry.  Thank you for the excellent coverage this year.  I want to ask about your radio show.  Under Iheart specialty shows, the episodes show Jan 09 2023 as the last uploaded episode.   Is this season under a different folder?  Also, when Duquesne sports come on, your show gets overlapped.  Are you on a different tune when that happens?  Thank you
Gerry Dulac
10:42
I've heard that happens. Duquesne BB comes on at 7 pm for the second hour if you're streaming on the website, not on the radio. But the station name has changed from ESPN to Fox Sports Pittsburgh, so maybe that's why Tuesday night's show wasn't listed where you looked. Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer than that.

Our play calling looked so unimaginative in the first quarter. Why do you think we played so scared and why no one to shadow a QB like Allen???
Gerry Dulac
10:44
For the first time since he became the starter, I thought Rudolph locked on to his receivers and didn't go through his progressions early in the game. I don't think he was scared, maybe nervous, or maybe just being cautious not to make a mistake in that weather against that team. But that all changed once he warmed up to what was happening

Yes, the Steeler organization can get rid of Tomlin if it ever comes to that, but then comes the daunting task of replacing him. Just as Tomlin has never (until now) had to draft and develop a quarterback, so has Dan Rooney’s son never had to hire a head coach. What’s the organization to do? When you come to the fork in the road, take it?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
They will worry about that when it comes to that, whether it's in 2025 or 2030. Eventually it will come to that. But it will be interesting when it does.
John
10:46
Hi Gerry, Jerry Jones didn't abruptly walk away when asked about Mike McCarthy's coaching future immediately after the Cowboy's gut wrenching playoff loss. Why was Tomlin such a drama queen about the same type of question? Also, was it disrespectful to the reporter who was asking a completely legitimate question?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
Sometimes it isn't always just the question...
Thomas
10:46
Do you think the Steelers will sign Cam Heyward to an extension to lower his cap hit? Do you think he will for sure be back next year if he wants to keep playing?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
If he wants to keep playing, which he does, it will only be because his contract was renegotiated, though not extended. I think Cam has earned the right and the team's respect to come to some agreement how this will all play out and/or end

Might the most outside demand for a Steelers UFA by Miles Killebrew? What’s the world  coming to?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Maybe, but only because there aren't a lot of UFAs. No fulltime every-down player is a free agent.
Jake
10:50
Did you personally enjoy watching the Steelers this year? It felt like we were 3 and 14 not 10 and 7. In your best guess, what QBs are here this upcoming summer?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
No, not until the last four games

10:51
Your time and insight doing these chats is much appreciated. You and many others have said Pickett should be the starter in 2024 since the Steelers have so much invested in him. Meanwhile, the 49ers who had even more invested in Lance didn’t hesitate to move on from him when Purdy was playing better. What do you think is the difference?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
I didn't say he should, I said he would. And the difference is Pickett is 14-10 as a starter, including 11-3 during one stretch from the end of 2022 to the  beginning of 2023. Lance was 2-2 as a starter and looked clueless

'Sup Gerry, After inheriting a team 2 years removed from a Super Bowl win Tomlin's 1st 4 years were great! The last 13 years there have been 3 playoff wins.  Is that truly a Hall of Fame career like the national media keep banging the drum for? Does the no losing seasons thing really factor into it?
