perfect time for Steelers to spend a year building up Oline and Dline this year and then pursue QB next year, what do you think? Your the best.

Gerry.   If the big nose Out of Georgia (Davis) is there or the center from Iowa is there at 20 who would you take?   Both lines need help but I’m not sure which is worse.   They have so many holes I’d almost trade back and pick up some extra picks but Colbert has only done that one I believe
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Yes they do, but I don't think I would pass on Davis if he were still there. To me, defensive lineman should be two of their top three or four picks in the draft. They have ignored the position for way too long with quality prospects

When you have two starting quarterbacks, you have zero starting quarterbacks, as the saying goes. The Rudolph / Haskins open competition doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in me. What was the worst Steelers QB competition you ever saw unfold during training camp? Stewart / Graham from 2000? Three-headed Jim Miller / Stewart / Tomczak monster? The Killer Bs (Brister / Blackledge / Bono)?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
I wouldn't call it an open competition. Rudolph will go to camp as the starter and Haskins will be given a good long look to see if he can handle. Do not dismiss Kordell's impact on this team. What he did as Slash and then as the QB in 2001 when he was an NFL MVP candidate was good stuff.

Hi Gerry- Do you think there's a chance that Art. Jr. overrules Coach Tomlin in regards to keeping a Canada as OC? I know that it happened will Coach Noll at the end.
Gerry Dulac
11:22
Of course there's a chance. He did it with Bruce Arians after a 12-4 season.

Hi Gerry, Is 55 a guy who needs to play alongside a thumper in order to be successful? 93 and 55 together have little physicality and I wonder how you see the Steelers addressing that position.
Gerry Dulac
11:23
No, he needs to play BEHIND a thumper, a D-lineman good enough to keep O-linemen off him. That is usually a prerequisite for all good ILBs.
Tommy Boy
11:23
Do the steelers target 2-3 of the top line free agents or go more middle of the road guys and add more of them?  I think a combo of picks and 2-3 signings can fix most of their issues from a lineup point of view.
Gerry Dulac
11:24
They need to address their lines of scrimmage, however they do it. But they need to address D-lineman in the draft, find a couple of young studs to rebuild a line that is getting older with Cam and Alualu.

HI Gerry, reading your past chats I am beginning to wonder if there is a systemic issue within the Steelers when it comes to assistant coaches. Is ownership unwilling to play top dollar for top assistants, resulting in in-house promotions? Or does Tomlin tell ownership he prefers in-house candidates? Or is it both? Maybe Tomlin like to promote within because he knows he can ultimately make all or most of the sideline decisions on offense and defense. Thoughts?

This guy needs to be paid, too!!!

Hi Gerry, It seems clear that many in the media think it would be best for Matt Canada to move on as to hire a new coordinator to bring in a new system and philosophy to the team.  That being said, many of the same local media say that Rudolph should be brought back and given a chance to start in 2022 because he "knows the system."  My point is that if you bring in a new O - Coordinator any advantages Rudolph would be having to come back would be moot if a new coordinator where to be hired.
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Why, that's what they did this year -- bring in a new coordinator for an 18-year HOF QB.

JuJu playing in the playoffs is a nice story, but he’s just another guy. Shouldn’t the Steelers move on?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
Nope. I've changed my mind about JuJu. They need to bring him back, otherwise you're turning the WR room over to 11 and 18. JuJu is a tough, committed, dependable, reliable player. A little silly, yes. But all business on the field

Gary, I am not in the doldrums, and Jason Starkey had a great article and points on the Steelers luster not being as shiny the last 40 years, but going on runs like NE had is so hard. Look at all the different pieces to all the SB runs. But, do the Steelers really want to legitimately compete or is at least being in the playoff race enough?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
Being in the playoffs is never just enough for them. Which is why they need to ask the question you are suggesting. However, their run of non-losing seasons is very very hard to do, incredible really, when you consider the potential for injuries and, in the past two years, Covid issues

Tomlin obviously has some great skills as head coach.  He also has some glaring deficiencies that seem, at times, to hold the team back.  The Klemm and Canada hirings were uninspiring at the time and have not aged well, and some have suggested that he won’t hire the kind of OC the Steelers really need unless told to do so.  I’m not saying he should be fired, but at what point does ARII respectfully step in and help right the ship?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
I think he does. But, let's be fair, too -- the Steelers have to be willing to pay the kind of money it takes to attract a top coordinator.

Gerry   I could not understand why Tomlin did not defer receiving the kickoff to start the second half after winning the coin toss.   Did not make sense while on the road with a notorious slow starting offense.  Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Here's why -- he didn't want to give the ball right away to Patrick Mahomes and have that offense set the tone right away. I agreed with the decision.

For some reason, #11 regressed. Is it hard to teach him to run proper routes or is he not open to teaching? For most of this year, #11 was just running straight without much separation.
Gerry Dulac
11:31
You noticed that, huh?

11:31
Will the Steelers really consider Rudolph the starter next year or do you believe they make a move for a legitimate starter?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Yes they really do consider him the starter next year. Now, doesn't mean that's the way it will work out, but that is their mindset right now. Has been for a while.

Hi Gerry, it’s assumed that Ben wasn’t the biggest fan of Canadas offense, esp with your tweet on Sunday. What is the feeling of MC’s system with the rest of the offense? Same feeling as Ben’s?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Probably not far behind, based on what I'm told
Daniel
11:33
Hi Gerry, do you see franchise caliber type QBs in this year's draft (Pickett, Willis, Corral, Howell)? I don't see one and suggest the Steelers just take care of OL/DL first.
Gerry Dulac
11:33
I would say you are 100 percent correct
Utah Jim
11:33
I don’t know why everyone is so upset. Did they forget the Steelers have only had three head coaches since 1969 and the current one has never had a losing season? Those are the standards now, right?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Those are impressive standards, too.

11:33
what would Dan Rooney do with this team?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
That's a very good question, and I'm not sure. But I know he wouldn't stand for what he's watching on offense

11:34
will this be the year we finally realize we need a couple of 'big" men in the middle of our defensive line, no matter what the percentage of time they play????
Gerry Dulac
11:35
They don't necessarily have to be big; they have to be young, talented and good, players you find in the first round or second, not in the fifth sixth and seventh. Not as this point.

Hi Gerry.  Since it has come out that Canada bastardized his offense to suit Ben, it would seem that HCMT covered for Ben's vast alterations of the offensive game plans, so maybe Canada deserves a 2nd chance.  What say you?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
I don't know where you got the idea he bastardized the offense to suit Ben.
