Why has Mike Tomlin insisted on sticking with mediocre to poor performance people, like Matt Canada (staff) and Presley Harvin (player)? What does that say about Tomlin’s brain for management?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
He is loyal to a fault, if nothing else.
Bill
11:30
What round would these players get in trade value if they were traded by the Steelers this offseason: Mitch Tribusky, Kenny Pickett
Gerry Dulac
11:30
Mitch = 6th. Pickett = 3
Draft Mistakes
11:31
There are reports that Washington was drafted only to be a blocker and was never expected to get a second contract.  Was that worth a 3rd round pick??
Gerry Dulac
11:31
They were taking a chance, no doubt, because of injury concerns. They had their fingers crossed. Still do.

Who do you think will be the next OC of the Steelers ?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Cant and won't predict, at least not now

If this team goes in to next season with Pickett as the started and we get a rinse, wash, repeat season of 9-8 or 10-7 with either no play off game or a quick exit in round 1 if they do make the play offs, would Tomlin's job be in jeopardy or does he get to stick around and pick our next bust at QB?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
I think I would be entertaining and answering these very same questions at this time next year. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Do you think Cam Heyward comes back next year? Seems like he isn't willing to take a paycut. Do you see the Steelers releasing him or will he budge on his stance? Thanks Gerry
Gerry Dulac
11:34
Yes. But, if he does, it will have to be with a pay cut.

Do you have any specific insights on what held Leal back this year?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
Didn't improve. Didn't work hard enough, apparently. Biggest disappointment of the season.

Is there an agency or association that keeps track of players injury backgrounds/history?  I am thinking it particularly comes into play during the season when a team is looking to sign a free agent? Or is the research done solely by each team?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Every player has medical records on file somewhere that are easy to access by another team. Of course each team is going to do its own research.

Gerrymandering, thank you for the chats, what area of free agency,  do you think the Steelers  will address, at a position of need?
Gerry Dulac
11:38
To be honest, I haven't thought that far ahead yet, but I would imagine on offense it would either be a center or a third-team QB; on defense, just about any position other than OLB. But I don't see any position getting a "splash" player, to be honest. Maybe cornerback.

I tend to agree with you that the need for the Steelers in the next draft is a DL
But is there one worth taking in the first round?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
That's what we're going to find out. They need to research long and hard
Eddie

Do you see the Steelers extending any contracts this offseason? James Daniels or Pat Freiermuth?

Good morning Gerry.  How far do you think the steelers are willing to go for their choice of OC?  Full control?  Competitive salary?  Extra staff?  QB choice?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
Full control within reason. The head coach is always in charge, don't forget that. But the salary will be a component because it will be up to the candidate to decide if it's enough.

Is Dionte Johnson on the Steelers next year?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
Yes

11:41
Seems like the steelers value talent over tude when it comes to receivers. In light of a string of high performing but immature receiver picks, is vetting the personality of these receivers important to our scouts?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
Of course it is. But maybe it needs to be more stringent
Steelbro
11:41
Do you think ARII will do his annual media availability before or after a new OC is hired? Who gets that assignment at P-G?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
You're talking to him

Gerry, when the smoke and dust clears it seems the Steelers QB spot for 2024 is the big question. In golf terms (your expertise), I view Kenny P as a driving range pro. Like many of us who do okay at the range warm up we go out to the course and shoot a 92. KP’s last training camp was just that. Do you trust any training camp pre season evaluation of Kenny?
Gerry Dulac
11:42
I need to see him play 18 more holes. But no more than that.

Gerry, a couple of questions for you.  Other than the OC, what other assistant offensive coaches will be replaced?  If there is limited change in replacing assistants, how receptive would a new OC want to come to the Steelers if he is not able to hire his own offensive assistants?
Gerry Dulac
11:43
Most offensive coordinators don't get to come in and say who they want to hire. If there is an opening at a position, they could suggest one. But if Mike Tomlin wants an assistant to stay, he's staying, regardless who is the OC. That could happen with QB coach Mike Sullivan

Most would say the 2023 draft class looked like a home run. Repeat this type of draft in 24 (a wise writer says pick DL in round 1), a few key FA signings from cap savings cuts, and a new OC that maybe gets KP to develop into a reasonable starter, and this team is not far away from having playoff success? It's not like the other teams this weekend in the AFC playoffs had no flaws. Fine line between winning and losing in the NFL.
Gerry Dulac
11:44
Agreed. You're never that far away in the NFL. Staying healthy is a key. But you better have that QB that the players believe in.

TE Darnell Washington is 6"6" and 260, yet we rarely see him running pass routes or being targeted.  Why don't we use him more?  Bad hands?
Gerry Dulac
11:45
Bad something else, if you haven't paid attention to the way he lumbers.
Carl
11:45
Hi Gerry, what are your thoughts Kliff Kingsbury as OC?
Gerry Dulac
11:45
He's a good OC
