No. It will be nothing like last year when they signed Mitch Trubisky two hours into free agency and then signed James Daniels and Mason Cole right after that.

Do you have any feeling for what traits/tendencies/experiences, etc. Khan may have that sets him apart from Colbert?  i.e. what might we expect to see different from him this offseason?
Gerry Dulac
1:19
We shall see, but I think you might have already seen a difference or change in approach when they made an in-season trade of a starter (Chase Claypool) for a high draft choice.

Burrow is an excellent QB but how can the Bengals play that well against the Bills without 3 starting OL?  That says something about play calling.  The 49ers as well with a third string quarterback.  We need an innovative play caller to keep up with the elite teams in the AFC.
Gerry Dulac

Yeah, that Bengals offensive line look awful against the Bills, especially the way they pushed them around like a shopping cart. Terrible,

i know that he’ll probably have to compete for his spot this summer, but did Harvin get himself out of the doghouse by the end of this past season?
Gerry Dulac

yes

if/when mitch & mason leave, would they draft a backup qb? That sounds like too much youth and they should sign a vet... yes?
Gerry Dulac
1:22
Mason Rudolph will definitely not be back. Trubisky will depend if the Steelers still want to pay him $8 million in salary this season to be a backup or what happens if they want him to take a pay cut. I wouldn't waste a pick on a backup QB, but if they did it would be another late-round pick

Wasn't that an amazing question? At what position are you spending money this free agency? It seems like getting a lockdown corner really is only going to come out of the draft and it should so we can hold that person for 4-5 years in a cost-beneficial spot. Would you rather spend on OT in the early part of their career or go CB/OT with the first two picks?
Gerry Dulac
1:26
They won't b spending a lot of money on outside free agents. not like last year with Trubisky, Daniels, Cole, Wallace, Ogunjobi. If there was a lockdown corner they could get in the draft, I'd take him. But that's easier said than done when you're drafting 17 or 18

If Danny Smith retires is there anyone on the coaching staff capable of taking over?
Gerry Dulac
1:26
I think they will likely go outside if that happens.

Without 5th and 6th round picks do you see the team trying to make any trades (for players or moving back) to get back into those rounds?
Gerry Dulac
1:28
I think they will hold on to three of the top 49 picks as though it were the Hope diamond

I was excited to find out what Tomlin would do this year with his first real team.  He picked all the players and coaches.  I knew this would finally show us if he is a great coach or not.  He proved what I suspected - he is very average.  Shouldn't we want more than average?
Gerry Dulac
1:29
19-21-1 in their last 41 games. You should want more from a franchise whose annual stated goal.....oh, never mind.

Hi Gerry.  Any chance Steelers sign a FA offensive lineman and if so who are likely candidates?
Gerry Dulac
1:30
No. They did that last year. They don't need that.

I was at the Ohio State- Penn State game this year.    Harrison torched Porter for 185 yards and they eventually pulled him from single coverage.  I know it is a small sample size against an elite WR, but all NFL WRs are elite.  Do you have thoughts on Porter and whether the Steelers would use their first pick on him?
Gerry Dulac
1:32
I like Joey Porter, but I don't know what the Steelers (or other NFL people) think of him, not yet, anyway. One of the negatives I heard was he grabs a lot, and you can't do that in the NFL. But, after watching nearly every DB in the league, which ones don't these days??

Morning. Any intel on management wanting to try to get an earlier jump than usual on retaining potential free agents like Edmunds, Kazee, Larry or Sutton, among others? My sense is that if they let a guy like Edmunds play the field like last year, he’ll be gone. And I’m sure they were ok with that, but I’d hate to see some of the others go.
Gerry Dulac
1:34
They're not going to make Edmunds a priority, and it's possible they will treat him the same way they did last year. But, after seeing the way he performed this season, I think they will give a little more consideration to re-signing him. Of course, a lot of that depends on Edmunds, too, and what he thinks he is willing to accept.

Hello Gerry.  Thank you as always for the chat . Two part question. When do you expect Mr. Rooney's end of the year press conference ?  Also, do you expect any progress soon on the important contracts like Sutton, Edmunds  or does it have to wait till the start of the free agency and new League year in March ?  Thank you very much.
Gerry Dulac
1:35
Mr. Rooney will meet with several members of the media very, very, very soon. And it's too early for any progress to begin on free-agency talks. But they can talk with their own free agents and sign them whenever they want

Hi G! Any new rumors on an outgoing Coach Flores and/or an incoming offensive Assistent you can share?
Gerry Dulac
1:37
Quiet on both fronts as we speak. But, let me say this, there is a much better chance of Flores leaving than the Steelers bring in a senior offensive assistant. Much better.

1:37
Hi Gerry, Now that the Steelers have decided to keep Matt Canada will they look to add an offensive assistant as they did with the defensive (B Flores) last year.  I believe one could really help with the offensive planning and Pickett’s development.  Also with more middle and down the field plays.

Gerry, Six of the final eight playoff teams run a 4/3 D. Constant DL pressure made Josh, Dak, Trevor and Daniel look rather average. The four remaining teams all use a 4/3 D so it's going to be a 4/3 Super Bowl...again. Isn't it time for coach Tomlin to commit to a real NT in the Steelers DL and perhaps to return to a 4/3 D?
Gerry Dulac
1:38
I don't think that's the answer, but I get your point

Follow up: how many scorless quarters will Organisation tolerate until they ex their OC?
Gerry Dulac
1:40
All I know is the patience quotient among the fan base won't last much longer than the first or second game if the offense looks the same as it has since 2021
Thomas
1:41
If cost was irrelevant(its not, but...), do you bring back Kazee or Edmunds?   Or look for another option, draft or free agency?
Gerry Dulac
1:41
I think there is a better chance they bring back Kazee than Edmunds -- for starters, because he will be cheaper -- though I think they should bring back both

Gerry,  I believe D Johnson is our best route runner so I think he would be best used as the slot receiver.  We need more speed on the outside. Maybe C Austin has this speed for the outside spot or we find one in this off-season.
Gerry Dulac
1:42
He is their best route runner. And, believe me, Calvin Austin ups the speed quotient at WR a ton.

Gerry, do you think the Steelers late season success with Pickett and all is somewhat overblown given the level of opposition they played?
Gerry Dulac
1:45
It has to be taken with a grain of salt, but I'm not going to dismiss the improvements they made as the season went on. Granted, the bar was set very low, which is why three TDs in the final game (which merely tied a season high) was hailed a great achievement. But give them credit for doing what they should have done -- beat inferior opponents, if, in fact, they were inferior.

Bills-Bengals wasn’t a great game but the snow was glorious. Are two thirds of NFL owners going to adopt the terrible rule to move conference to title games to neutral sites?
