Hi Gerry.  If the Steelers are interviewing 3 candidates for DC do you think that this signals a change in who will call the D plays in future games, or are they just fulfilling NFL requirements?

It might be more of the latter, but I can tell you no matter what or who it is, a discussion will be held about who's calling the plays.

In a fake punt when the punter tosses to a WR, the punting ball being different (higher air pressure?) than game ball, would it make a difference in completion rate? Are these balls shaped differently so the refs can keep track of them?

I think he would have done so already, like he did last year with the OC and O-line coach. But that doesn't mean he won't.

I cannot believe that MIke Tomlin, shortly after becoming HC, with 1-2 years as a DC in Minny took over the DC play calling duties from future HOF Dick LeBeau.  This is according to former DC K Butler.

He didn't take over all the play-calling duties from LeBeau, just some instances. Not like he did with Butler.

Why didn't the team go with Corliss Waitman instead of Harvin? Now Waitmann is with the Broncos. It just seemed like Wattman was a far better punter. Thanks, for the Chat!

I'm not going to argue. But I will point up that Harvin was a draft choice and there's a certain amount of politics that go with that.

I give them lots of credit for what they try to do. But I think their ratings don't take into account what a player is being asked to do or when one player is trying to cover for another's mistake.

It seems kind of uncool that Tomlin took playcalling duties from Butler but didn't make that known. Then Keith B has to take all the blame for bad defensive showings even though Mike T called the plays. Thoughts on this?

Butler always had a play sheet (and I think Lebeau before that), so was Tomlin calling the plays into their headsets and then they relayed the call to the team. Is that how it works?
