There is no such thing as quiet in a Steelers offseason. Little too early to get a final read on the coordinator but I wouldn't be surprised if his staff doesn't have some Steelers flavor to it. As for the OC, it will probably be a situation similar to Andy Reid and Sean McVay.

Gerry do you foresee the Steelers coaching staff expanding beyond what it's been in the past? I'm not saying that's the answer, but it would be one step closer to meeting the modern NFL standards.
Gerry Dulac
11:17
They don't need any more assistants. They had plenty. They just need to hire more qualified ones.

Can we stop the Malik Willis talk. It would seem that there are still existing members in the front office that signed off on Pickett over him!? Not to mention MM stated he wanted a QB who could throw from the pocket.
Gerry Dulac

Those are fans and some national media people who have no clue.

Gerry, nobody asked me but….
·  I venture to say that 95% of the people up in arms about the Steelers hiring McCarthy, never heard of Nate Scheelhaus or knew Chris Shula was the Rams DC when the news came out that Tomlin stepped down.
·  Had Rooney hired a young defensive coordinator, people would still be upset because they’re the “Same Old Steelers” and he did not hire an offensive minded coach.
·  The pool of highly rated offensive coaches ready for a head coaching job was thin. Look at the hires that have been made, mainly defensive-minded coaches.
·  McCarthy may be a retread, but he has shown that he will adapt his schemes on both sides of the ball to match the strengths of his roster. Tomlin refused to do this.
· Just because McCarthy and Tomlin have similar records, does not mean they are the same coach. Tomlin and Noll both have 193 career victories. I don’t think anyone would compare Tomlin to Noll.

All good points. And because McCarthy came back to coach, does that make Mike Vrabel and Sean Payton "retreads?"

Do you expect McCarthy to have as much power in the drafting of players as Tomlin did?  If so, do you know what type of players McCarthy looks for?  Tomlin seemed to pick the fastest guy at a position of need and didn't care about red flags.  Does McCarthy value character in his players?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Probably a little too early in his tenure to have the same "power" as a coach who had been there 19 years. I would imagine McCarthy will be more inclined to draft offensive skilled players, if for no other reason than the Steelers need them.

Good morning. I’m curious to how you voted on your HOF ballot for Bellichik and if you think his cheating tactics will be problematic for him going forward, similar to Pete Rose’s gambling or Bond’s, etc. steroid use? Thank you
Gerry Dulac
11:21
I do not reveal my votes, but I will say it's embarrassing to the Hall and to the selection committee if he doesn't get in immediately

11:22
In your oppinion, does Gainwell get an offer that out prices him returning? Seems to be a devalue in RB’s but had also had a great season. Or maybe MM prefers a different back? Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
Could be, but that decision will be up to McCarthy. Can't imagine, though, not bringing back the team MVP.

Who do you think the Steelers will release or trade in the off-season versus, Who do you think should be released or traded in the off-season?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Well, I think they will start with a TE who was brought in this season.

In your opinion, should Rodgers come back versus the Steelers trying to get Malik Willis or just trying to develop Will Howard?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
I don't think Malik Willis is on their radar. What would that accomplish? Rodgers makes more sense. But let's not forget the QB they are hoping they can draft.

Hey stud! You said zero chance the Steelers would hire a retread coach. What changed?

Mike McCarthy

Any chance McCarthy believes Rudolph is still undeveloped? Still has a year left on contract and returned after a not so good ending previously. Can’t make him the odd man out - Again.. can they?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I don't think Mason is undeveloped. I think he and they know what he is -- and he doesn't have to prove himself.

11:27
Any chance a calculated MT would go to the Jets next year as the position could likely be open? Closer to kids and could easily be the savior or is their management to dysfunctional?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
I don't think he would have any interest in THAT job
Harry Callas
11:28
Hello! If Nate Schelhaause gave them Tomlin vibes. And did a great interview. Why no second interview?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Too inexperienced. Never called a play.  Only two years in the NFL. Give him another year or so. He will be the hottest of commodities.
Sunner in Orlando from Lebo
11:31
Since there are no quarterbacks to draft, should the Steelers go wide receiver, defensive back, and defensive line in the draft with the first three picks?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
IF there are no QBs, pick No. 1 should and will be a WR.
Sunner in Orlando from Lebo
11:31
What are the chances Kenneth Gainwell wants to stay with the Steelers and what will he command as far as a contract? I know you had mentioned that they will pay him about the same as Warren, but will he stay for that amount when he was the Steelers MVP?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Just because he was the team's MVP doesn't mean some team will throw money at him. Hey, it's perfectly reasonable he might want to test his worth on the free agent market. Justin Fields did, and look at the stupid money that was thrown at him.

Mornin’ Gerry. After seeing Mike McCarthy’s emotional comments yesterday I have to believe he will do everything possible to make the Steelers a better Team
Gerry Dulac
11:37
Of course he will. Nobody should question McCarthy's ability as a successful, winning coach. That's proven. There aren't many in the league with a better resume. That's not in question. But he's had the good fortune of having Brett Favre, Rodgers and Dak Prescott as his QBs for 17 of his 18 years. The Steelers don't have that, even with a 42-year-old Rodgers
Sunner in Orlando from Lebo
11:37
If the Steelers draft two wide receivers in the upcoming draft, will that allow the Steelers to release Austin and not pay him as a free agent?
Gerry Dulac
11:38
And they could still pay him and still draft two WRs. He's not going to break the bank
Chuck D
11:38
Gerry, Kind of knew Big Mike would crush the press conference.  I think it was smart to say he would welcome Aaron back, why not there is a whole off season, keep your options open.  Do you think they will go hard at Malik Willis?  The way he described the perfect quarterback in his offense fits him.  Not Aaron Rodgers. Not sure of Will Howard.  Most of Pittsburgh fell in love with Mike after that presser.  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:40
I agree. He hit it out of the park with his press conference. But the QB he described for his offense is not the type of QB he has ever had in Green Bay and Dallas. Yes, Favre, Rodgers and Prescott were nimble enough to move around, but they weren't exactly the QBs he described. Don't be fooled.

Hi Gerry, what do you think the Steelers will choose to do with Broderick Jones in terms of his 5th year option? Is he viewed as the starter at LT or did he get displaced by Dylan Cook?
Gerry Dulac
11:43
That's going to be interesting. My thought is they will not pick up his option. A lot depends on how quick or effective he can come back from neck surgery. Just because they don't pick up the option doesn't mean they still can't re-sign him.
Linebacker Lounge

Gerry, were you impressed with the press conference or about what you expected? Are you optimistic?
Gerry Dulac
11:43
I was impressed with MM and the reaction I'm sure it generated on the outside

Hey Ger. I love your writing. You told Dan Orlovsky the Steelers didn’t plan on bringing back Aaron Rodgers. Well now McCarthy says he definitely wants him back. So is AROD in their plans or not?
