OK kids, get those questions ready because we're going to start our chat in just a bit.

OK, here we go.....

Steelers should trade Johnson for Cooper Kupp or Justin Jefferson, dont ya think?   And then draft Addison.   Pickens is Randy Moss, so that would be 3 above average WRs.
Gerry Dulac
10:01
Oh, OK, I'll let them know. And I also let the other teams know, too, how they will be fleeced with that deal

What would a Mitch and Myles Jack cap hit look like for each if both are extended to lower their cap hits?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Well, that's to be determined, but because both players are in the final year of their contracts and both are scheduled to earn $8 million in salary in 2023, the only way to do that would be to convert nearly $7 million into a signing bonus and add voidable years to their contract. And I'm not sure they'd want to do that. The only other option is offer a take-it-or-else pay cut, and I'm not sure they would do that, either, because it's not like they don't want either player on their team next year. The exact opposite is true. Both would play key roles.

Chances Alex Highsmith gets 15-17.5M per year on a new deal?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Depends which team is offering him that deal. And when.

What's it going to take to get this team back into contention to compete with the big boys again? How do we get back to a run like we had in the 2000-2010 era? It wasn't all just Big Ben was it?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Well, yeah it was. But, of course, it was also that defense, which was better than this one. And the offensive line. And the group of receivers. And the coaching staff....

Morning! I read somewhere that Weidl has a philosophy of building a team from the trenches (OL & DL) out - if so, my kind of guy. Personally, I’d love to see the Steelers nab a CB at 17, and then use the next 3 picks on the “trenches.”  Do you see that as a reasonable approach?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Sure. But let's make one thing clear: Andy Weidl put together the draft board when he was with the Eagles, which means he ranked and rated all the prospects. But he didn't make the picks. Howie Roseman, the GM, made all the draft choices. Andy Weidl is not going to make the draft picks for the Steelers. But he will be responsible for putting together the draft board and evaluating the talent. And, to your point, yes, I believe he will lean toward what you see in Philly -- dominating lines of scrimmage.
Zach Barnhart
10:11
With the salary cap rising, do you see the Steelers potentially adding a decent offensive lineman via FA ?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
No, they haven't decent offensive linemen. They added two last year. They plan to add a more-than-decent offensive lineman in the early rounds of the draft

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  Whereas I dont agree with bringing back MC, the pundits seem to have a field day on his "saturday" like offense.  They reference all the jet sweeps or decoy jet sweeps.  Yet when I watch the games this past weekend I see plenty of jet sweeps from these OC masterminds.  I have a problem with the flow of the offense and getting the ball downfield.  Jet sweeps seem to be part of the game.  Am i wrong?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
You are not. We see them from other teams as well. You just don't want to see too many of them. I'll be honest, I didn't have a huge problem with the flow of the play-calling the second half of the season, outside of a few red-zone instances. But that doesn't mean the Steelers should stand pat with an offense that can't score points...and hasn't for the two years Matt Canada has been the offensive coordinator. And the idea the Steelers don't want to go backward and start again with a new offensive coordinator for Pickett is ridiculous because you might be doing that anyway after Pickett's second year if the offense stinks again.

Good morning Mr. Dulac:  After hearing the news that our OC is returning, I am concerned that if this offense doesn’t perform in better and score more points that we will then hear at a press conference that “if you have red paint,  you paint your barn red”.  While most of us can relate to this advice given the financial pressures of the world, is it too much for this fan base to expect our billion dollar sports team to also practice under?  I know it’s not my money, but do we have any hope that the organization stops down to the local Pittsburgh Paints store and check out the fine selection of different color paints on the shelf. Changing the barn colors to a nice shade of black and gold could be nice?   Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
Dave, not sure I can add any thoughts to the paint-store analogy, other than to say I get my paint at Home Depot. But I get your point.

Mr Dulac.  Thanks for the chats.  Any new insights on the Brian Flores job hunt?   Also do we see any other potential coaching moves in the horizon?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
I see none right now, on both fronts.

Good article by Ron Cook today. You know the old saying, “Doing the same things over and over again expecting different results”!

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the Chats:  Time for the Steelers to trade the 10th pick in the 2019 draft for the 16th pick in the 2018 draft.  In other words, let ILB Bush walk and sign FA ILB Tremaine Edmunds.  Obviously sign and entice brother Terrell.  With the cap $$ bump the Steelers now have the space to do this, and it will put the Bush mistake in the rear-view mirror.   Get the parents on the phone!!
Gerry Dulac
10:20
Tremaine Edmunds would be an upgrade based on what we've seen from Bush and how little the Steelers rely on him anymore.

Gerry do you see the Steelers trying to make some out of character moves with free agency the next few years with Kenny being on his rookie deal? Most teams completing for Lombardis in todays NFL have a QB on a rookie deal with aggressive FAs added to the mix.
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Nope. I see the same approach. That being said, let's not forget how active they were last year in free agency, signing six players they anticipated being starters -- Trubisky, Cole, Daniels, Ogunjobi, Jack and Wallace. That's a rarity for them. Of course, I think your use of "aggressive" is another word for high-priced, and we know we don't see that.

Mr. Dulac. It is likely you will get several questions on this topic, but If any team would give you a 1st and just one second round pick for Mike Tomlin, would you consider this trade?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
The Steelers wouldn't.
Nate from Fort Wayne
10:24
Hey Gerry, were you surprised with the Tom Brady news? I thought Raiders would've been a good fit for him and to see him play Mahomes , Russell Wilson and Herbert each twice would've been fun.
Gerry Dulac
10:25
I thought the Raiders would be the ONLY fit  because of his ex-OC Josh McDaniels, Davante Adams and Josh Jacobs. Apparently the Raiders didn't think it would be fun
Noh Canada
10:25
Gerry thank you for your work, time and chats. Simple question - why do Tomlin and Rooney believe Canada is the best available candidate to make this offense a Super Bowl champ.  If consistency is their answer, then the annual stated goal is a line of BS isn’t it?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
I do not have that answer.

10:26
Chance Steelers trade Dionte Johnson?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
None

10:26
where is the greater need in draft
Gerry Dulac
10:27
They need to replenish their lines of scrimmage with top-tier players and find a sure-fire starting CB
Salvatore
10:27
GM Gerry!!! If the OL/DL, CB and ILB looks like the priority for the team during the draft. WRs look as a steady group even when a lack of growth is evident. Shall GM hire one more senior WR or will we see another WR coach this year?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I think you will see a WR added somewhere, either free agency or the draft, though no higher than the 4th round

I’m frequently hearing folks calling for the Steelers to jettison Diontae. He has his ups and downs/drops; however, I don’t see him as the nightmare so many claim him to be. Anyway, at this point, how the heck do you get rid of him? It’s not like we have layered depth at wideout. Free agency would likely bring us simply serviceable/role player guys  like Sims and Boykins- we don’t have the $$$ to dabble in the big WR FA market. The draft probably means a developmental player who has to grow. In short, in my opinion, Diontae is a reasonable investment at the moment. Your thoughts.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
My thoughts are I agree with you. In fact, if I had more money in this inflationary period, I'd say to pay the man.
