when discussing the restructuring of Ben's contract, I fail to see how restructuring it to include other years to defray the cost of the roster bonus in March will advance the Steelers cap issues in the future. Is it possible to restructure the current contract for Ben to agree to less money or will he see this as an insult to a hall of fame player?
Gerry Dulac
1:35
Why should he agree to take less money? I can promise you other NFL stars, despite what you read, don't take less money. When they restructure their contract, they are only doing that to defray into future years what they are owed. In fact, their money is converted into a signing bonus, which means more money up front. Now, that's not to say he might agree to less money for 2021. But I think you and everyone else are forgetting what Ben has meant to the Steelers and the very high regard in which they hold him, as great as any player they have had.

Hey Gerry. What is the feelings from the fans in Pittsburgh about Big Ben coming back?Seemed like Art Rooney maybe would have preferred that Ben just hang it up. Do you sense it could be an ugly acrimonous ending to one of the most storied players in Steelers history?
Gerry Dulac
1:38
I don't think AR2 necessarily feels that way, but I'm surprised at the amount of fans who think it is time to move on and want to push him out the door. There is nothing to suggest BR can't play any more. That wasn't the case when the Steelers parted ways with Troy Polamalu and Hines Ward. They knew, and everyone else knew, they couldn't pay anymore. That is not the issue here.

Do you believe the Rooney's believe there is a lack of leadership and culture issue with the current coaching staff and roster?
Gerry Dulac
1:38
If they did they would have done something about it.

Who would have had a voice in the hiring decisions for OC, OL, and eventual QB coach?
Gerry Dulac
1:39
Only one voice -- Mike Tomlin.

This draft will have a new category...the Opt Outs. Do you think teams will discount players like Paris Ford a little for walking away from their teams?
Gerry Dulac
1:39
Are you kidding? They look past criminal and drug records.

Had Dupree and Bush avoided injury, how different would the regular season and playoffs played out based upon your observation of the team over the course of the entire season?
Gerry Dulac

The defense would be even better, and they led the league in sacks, interceptions, were second in takeaways and points allowed and third in total defense.

Hi Gerry, thanks for the chat! As a fan, it's hard for me to see that the recent coaching hires on offense will yield a different result. I know I'm just a fan, so I guess we'll have to trust the process and wait and see (with baited breath). What say you? Thank you sir.
Gerry Dulac
1:43
The biggest and most significant results will come when they change the schemes and the personnel, not simply with the hires.

What is the deal with salaries being unattractive to candidates for Steeler Assistant coaches?
Gerry Dulac
1:45
Whoever said that does not know what they pay assistant coaches. And please don't tell me they have the lowest coaching staff payroll in the league, as some people want to say. That is not true. These same people haven't paid attention to the fact the Steelers have the smallest coaching staff in the league. Duh

Why is Ben so often in shotgun formation? There’s no way this will promote an effective running game. Even Brady is behind center for most snaps
Gerry Dulac
1:45
You don't have to be behind center to have an effective running game. Misconception.

Gerry, who is your favorite draft eligible QB not named Trevor Lawrence?
Gerry Dulac
1:46
I don't have one. I think it's a weak, overrated crop

Is Okeafor a legit starting LT?
Gerry Dulac

He was pretty darn good at RT, I'll tell you that.

TE or CB more important for Steelers during this years draft?
Gerry Dulac
1:47
Neither is high priority. And why would you want them to draft a cornerback with their history of drafting CBs?? You should hope they never draft a cornerback.

This isn’t the 1970s, and as the Titans found out in the playoffs, any running game can be stopped by a good defense, Ben’s obviously going to play in 2021, so forget about wasting a 1st or 2nd round pick on the running game and get a quality QB prospect instead—one that can be groomed for 2022 at the feet of a future HOFer. Surely you agree (as should Steelers management).  Right?
Gerry Dulac
1:48
It's not about getting rid of the pass, it's about  getting better at the run to help the pass.

You said last year week that you want to see TB win the Super Bowl.  Many Steelers fans want the Chiefs to win to deny Brown a ring.  Some would say the same thing about Bell, but what Bell did pales in comparison.  Fo Chiefs!

Who cares about those guys.

Jerry - I see periodic mentions of well qualified coaches not being interested in the recent Steeler staff vacancies.  Does any of that have merit or is that all conspiracy stuff?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
1:49
And who is saying that?
AK
1:49
I read an article this week that advocated bringing back Bell.  It seems to me that if Bell were still effective, he’d be playing a lot more than he is.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac

Again, someone who doesn't know.

Have you read Bruce Arians' _The Quarterback Whisperer_?  And, if so, do you have any comments about Arians' highly complimentary assessment of Ben and his "heart" - e.g., courage, willingness to play hurt?  I wish that more of Ben's detractors appreciated that side of Ben's game.  I know I didn't until I read Arians' book.
Gerry Dulac

I have read it and he is right. I have been told by the people who know what he deals with that he is one tough dude. His records speaks for itself. There is a reason they follow him on the football field

Is this a good year to trade down? My ideal draft for the Steelers has them trading down to get more picks and then taking one of the top two backs. I’d then go Center and TE in rounds two and three.
Gerry Dulac
1:52
I would agree with your order, but I don't think they have any interest in trading down. If anything, they will go up to make sure they get the guy they want, should he fall within range. More so than ever.

Don’t you think that Brady has settled the dispute of who is more important to the success of a team, the head coach or a QB?
Gerry Dulac

His record speaks for itself.

Seeing reports that the Steelers are not fully committed to BR's return.  What do you think they should do?  What will they do?  IMO, they should eat the $22M, let Mason and Haskins battle, and focus on improving the run game and OL.
Gerry Dulac
1:52
Forget Haskins. He's not even in the discussion and doesn't deserve to be.
