Is the standard hopefully not good enough, now?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
You mean it's NOT the standard anymore??
Josh
10:31
Good morning Gerry, are you hearing the same report that Angelichio is working on a deal to be the next Steelers OC? If so, how do you feel about the potential hire? Or is it moot since McCarthy is the true OC on the team?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
I don't deal in other reports, just what I know and hear from within. But, to your question, he was interviewed yesterday for the job. Hey, the last two OCs who worked under McCarthy got head coaching jobs -- Kellen Moore and Brian Schottenheimer. So the position is a little more than "moot."
Tom Ray
10:34
Good Morning Gerry,  Preface by saying I am not a fan of the McCarthy hire. However I wanted to wait and see about his staff. So far I an unimpressed. The DC has a bad record. The OC he wanted said no preferring to stay as QB Coach in NO. He retained several of the Tomlin Assistants. Wants to bring Rodgers back. Mike is too old to change in any meaningful way.  Seems like Art rushed this hire and first steps out of the gate confirming. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Well, I don't think that. The DC is highly regarded among his peers and maybe his defensive stats haven't been good because the talent he has had to work with hasn't been the greatest. The OC didn't turn down the job -- he wasn't offered him. It's an old coaches ploy to save face. Just because people didn't like Tomlin doesn't mean some of his assistants aren't good coaches. And McCarthy has a history with them. I love when people say McCarthy is hiring his old associates. Name me a coach who doesn't hire assistants with whom he has worked and trusts??
Josh
10:38
Do you think any of the Steelers OLB’s will be traded before the 2026 season starts?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
I think they waited a year too long for that to happen.
Linebacker Lounge
10:39
I get many assistants have worked other positions, but why bring in an OL coach to coach the RB’s?
Gerry Dulac
10:39
Maybe that's why. A lot of times, though, the OL coach is the run game coordinator.

10:39
Hi Gerry - what are your thoughts on the DC hire? I think we’ll be better on the offense with MM - assuming a decent QB option. Thought he would bring in a top DC name. The DC hasn’t led a high ranking defense so far.
Gerry Dulac
10:40
Who is a top DC name that was available?? Abd Graham is highly respected as I said.
Curious
10:41
Good morning Mr. Dulac. The Steelers practice facility lease will end in 2030, any word on if they stay and upgrade or move and build a new one?  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
10:41
I hope so
Josh
10:41
Is Ty Simpson even a thought at pick 21 for Pittsburgh? It has to be WR right?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Too early for me to answer

10:42
What possible benefit to the Steelers becoming a legitimate playoff contender would bringing back AR accomplish? Another near 500 finish?  This is an old team needing an infusion of young talent especially at QB.   Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
10:44
They already are a legitimate playoff contender because they've been in the postseason 5 of the past 6 years. I assume you mean Super Bowl contender. And 10-7 is not "near-.500." But I get your concern and, trust me, they do, too. They are well aware of the need to find a young QB to get them back where they would like to go.

There was a lot of buzz that Tolzien was high on the steelers list of potential OCs, yet he’s still with Saints as a QB coach. Which theory holds more water: the reports about the steelers interest were overblown or working for the steelers is no longer a coveted position.
Gerry Dulac
10:47
Maybe they were overblown by some, but the reality was he was brought in to be interviewed, not necessarily to be hired.  So the QB coach of the Saints, a team that hasn't been in the postseason in 5 years, is more coveted than the OC position of an annual playoff team? And being under a coach who has seen his last two OCs become a head coach? It's an easy one to figure out. So figure it out....

Steelers have to draft the WR position, maybe twice would you not agree? With the money invested into DK..
Gerry Dulac
10:47
I would agree.

10:48
Gerry, wouldn't the nfl be better off if they sanctioned a real football game for the pro bowl ? Using senior college  players that might not be invited to the combine would be much more watchable. I'm sure players would opt out due to injury concerns but I'm also sure many would play to enhance their standing for the draft. Thoughts ?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
They already have that. It's called the East-West Shrine Game
Stairway to seventh seed
10:49
Gerry: for all the talk about how the Steelers need to tank to get a generational talent at QB through the draft the way the Pats did with Maye, the Seahawks show that there is another path.  The Steelers have had numerous chances to acquire younger "retread" QBs that almost certainly would have brought playoff wins over the last few years.  Darnold, Mayfield, and Daniel Jones come to mind.  The Steelers just picked poorly in this area with Fields.  Unfortunately we never found out on Haskins.  I am not high on any of the retreads that might be available this year, but would you rather have a 43 year old Rodgers vs say Mac Jones, Kyler Murray, or even Davis Mills if the money was comparable?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Yes I would. The Steelers have no interest in going that stop-gap way again with a retread QB who does not have Rodgers' resume. Look, I understand Rodgers is 42 who will be 43 late in the season. I'm not exactly endorsing that, either. But it might just be their best option. And, like I said countless times before, even if they bring Rodgers back, it will have nothing to do with their INTENTION to draft a QB high.

10:52
Everyone is saying the Steelers started running a 3-4 defense with Cowher in 1992. Didn’t Noll switch to that defense in 1982 under Woody Widenhofer?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
Yes he did.
Linebacker Lounge
10:53
Has Wilson done enough to be an every down starter, or will it continue to be situational football?
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Yes he has. But Tomlin liked to use a run-stuffing ILB against teams who could run the ball, which is why Malik Harrison would get a lot of snaps against those teams and Wilson would get more against pass-oriented teams.

10:55
What’s your gut on Rodgers coming back?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
Rodgers really liked his time here -- liked the players, liked the coaches, liked getting back to the postseason. And they liked him. I don't think he will have the same hesitancy this year that he had last year after two miserable seasons with the Jets.
Linebacker Lounge
10:57
Does LG get filled thru the draft.. if so, what round? 4th? Or do they go FA route..
Gerry Dulac
10:57
So you are assuming they won't re-sign Seumalo?
TODave
10:57
Hi Gerry. Despite all the changes we’re seeing, I think success will still largely come down to QB play and putting them in a position to be successful. What direction do you think Steelers are most likely to take at QB this year: Bring in vet to take most of the reps, draft a mid-round QB and let that pick and Howard compete for decent playing time next season, give Howard a shot and wait for 2027 draft if he doesn’t show enough, draft Simpson in the first (hope not)? Thanks Gerry!
Gerry Dulac
11:00
Their intent (and I keep using that word) is to draft a QB high. And, if they bring in a vet, I would imagine that will be Rodgers. That will be the safest bet. But, if Rodgers comes back, and they draft a QB high, that gives them four QBs. Now what??
Latham
11:00
Gerry, I always appreciate your chats! My Question - Do you believe we sign/trade for a real name at WR and draft one high, or just purely stick to the draft since DK is making $30 million already at that same position? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:00
They will draft a WR high, if not first round, then second for sure. And maybe another after that

L.C. gets in tomorrow?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
The fact that Belichick and Kraft did not get in makes me think it will be difficult because those two definitely gobbled up a lot of the votes. Neither got the required 40 of the potential 50 need for election, but Belichick got 39 and I'm guessing Kraft was not far behind. So, if they got, say 75 of the 150 total votes (each of the 50 committee members picks three), that leaves approximately 75 votes for the three other candidates -- L.C., Ken Anderson and Roger Craig. That would make it impossible for two of those three to receive the required 80 percent of the votes -- 40, in this instance. So I believe just one will get in. L.C. had a lot of support from the committee, but so did Craig. I'll find out tomorrow
