Hi Gerry!  Who do you anticipate being cut or traded?  I know you mentioned Jonnu Smith as most likely gone and I agree with you … as usual I might add!  Who else?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
There will be a few others, I'm sure, but no blockbusters
Chill Dave
11:08
Hi Gerry, do you think McCarthy and Khan will look for a traditional FB for his offense or just put Connor Heyward in that role?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
That will be up to McCarthy if he wants one. It will be up to OK to get one

Overall thoughts on coaching changes to this point? Anything you’d like to have seen done differently? Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:10
It is so hard to evaluate coaches, especially assistants, because you're only as a good as your players. There are good coaches who don't have talented players. Patrick Graham might be one of those
Matt
11:10
Hi Gerry.  Are you concerned at all that with McCarthy calling the offensive plays, it will be the same situation as Tomlinson running the defense?    If not, why do you think it will be different?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
None at all. I think McCarthy's track record of calling plays is proven and needs no endorsement from me.

What is the reason(s) Howard fell all the way to the 6th round?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
You'd have to ask scouts, coaches and GMs. Obviously, they all saw the same limitations, among them, not the strongest arm. But that was the knock against Brady when he came out. And he wasn't very agile or athletic. Howard, though, is one thing: A proven big-game winner. Played his best in the biggest moments, unlike that QB three hours away from the same conference.

Hi Gerry. I know you don't like to speculate but do you have a feel for what will happen with Rodgers? My second question is do you think they will try to get Gainwell signed before the start of the new league year?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
I'm thinking he will be back, but I think the decision will rest more with Rodgers than the Steelers. Gainwell will be signed if 1) McCarthy thinks he fits with his offense, and 2) he doesn't decide to test the free agent market, where he could get an offer twice or three times what the Steelers will offer him.
Matt
11:15
Hi Gerry… thanks for the chats!  Do you think it is imperative and highly probable that we draft two WRs in the first 3-5 picks since McCarthy likes to use three WR sets?  We need fast, explosive off the ball WRs who are great route runners, in my opinion.
Gerry Dulac
11:15
Yes I do!! And they better
Realist
11:15
If the Steelers don't take a WR in the first round this year, what position might they select instead?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
Only QB. No other.
Henry Hill

Greetings Gerry; prediction for the Super Bowl? I don't care who wins as long as it's not the Pats.
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Haha. I like that Seahawks defense.

Hi Gerry, I think many of us were happy that Weidl will continue in his role with the Steelers but I imagine he will be a GM somewhere in the near future.  When someone in his position leaves, do they generally take some scouts with them?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Sometimes. Weidl does a good job. And it probably is just a matter of time before he gets a GM job. Fastest way to that, though, is for the team to make some noise in the postseason.

11:20
McCarthy has kept a few of the coaches from Tomlin’s staff. What has set them apart? Is it simply prior experience with McCarthy or something else?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Little of both. He knows them to be good coaches.

One position group that has done well is the outside linebacker group, especially the progress of young guys Herbig and Sawyer. I would think Denzel Martin would get some credit for that. Why do you think he wasn’t retained?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
No disrespect to Denzel, who is a good coach, but when you're working with Watt, Highsmith, Herbig and Sawyer, well, that's like being Peyton Manning's quarterback coach or tourism director in Hawaii.

Hi Gerry. Starting safeties for next season: Jalen Ramsey and DeShon Elliott?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Yes.

11:23
Was Pickett the team’s biggest all time draft bust, considering he was a QB? Dishonorable mention for Huey Richardson and Jamain Stephens.
Gerry Dulac
11:23
No. Pickens proved he can play and be a big-time WR.
John from Toronto
11:23
Hi Gerry. Top priorities for the Steelers in this year's draft: QB, WR (x2?), CB, DL, OG and Safety? And considering it's not a great QB class do you see a scenario where the Steelers don't draft a QB this draft? I still believe DL is a top priority and would like to see another one drafted in the 1st round.
Gerry Dulac
11:25
I don't disagree with the DL reasoning, but I don't suspect it's coming in the first two rounds, not after they took two who they really like last year. And I don't think the Steelers are going to reach for a QB in the first round just to take one. But you can bet a WR will be the pick if not a QB

Good morning, Gerry!  While I was initially underwhelmed by the McCarty hiring (didn't hate it, but not wowed), you and your team have helped me to come around and I'm now optimistic.  I'm excited about the staff he's putting together, and since that was Tomlin's weakness in recent years, I think we have the chance to have our best complete coaching staff in a very long time.  Not really a question, but thanks for talking us fans off a ledge with sound, reasonable reporting.
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Yeah, that Fittipaldo has a calming way about him.

Unlike many, I view this team as a '10-win playoff team' and not some "mediocre" "lousy" roster.   Is it reasonable to expect just a 20% improvement in areas like game planning, offensive scheme, in-game strategy, personnel usage (ie. Muth) etc   Even without a franchise QB, that would be good enough to win a playoff game or two, no?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Absolutely it is.
John from Toronto
11:27
Hi Gerry. Is it plausible to predict that after one season following the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade, all the Steelers are left with is the 7th round pick in 2027? Do you see a scenario where both Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey are cut? Ramsey may have some trade value and I think he can transition to safety but his cap hit would need to be adjusted in my view.
Gerry Dulac
11:28
I don't see Ramsey exiting and, yes, they can adjust his cap hit if necessary. But that may not be necessary with the projected huge increase in the salary cap.

Your HOF voting article was informative and interesting. Thank you. However, you really need to get over yourself in one aspect. Comparing your role in this in any way to aspects of the job of an NFL coach in any way is just ridiculous. The HOF is a museum, it’s not life or death, and to basically act like keeping your vote a secret is critical to national security (or something of that level) is just strange and egotistical. It’s not that important Gerry.
Gerry Dulac
11:30
You took all that from one article? Wow, what reading classes did you take??
11:32
And here, despite going OT again with the chat, I thought I was going to get through the entire session without one moronic question. But, as I like to tell people in our chats, consider the source. I'll end our session on that note. Thanx for the questions -- 99.9 percent of 'em.
