In Ray Fittipaldo: Well, there is the matter of the contract. And the reason Rooney signed him for $50 million over three years is he believes Tomlin connects with players and can get through to them. He was asked that question a week or two ago and said when he talks to players they tell him Tomlin isn't the problem.
Gerry Dulac

That's what he said! I don't think anyone questions whether he is a great motivator or leader. But there is a matter of schemes....

MT continues to use the mantra something along the lines of continuing to do the same things, getting the same results is insanity. From my perspective we continue to do the same things. Am I off base!?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Nope.

Hi Gerry, great article on the Smith/Wilson relationship. It is now dawning on me, and perhaps everyone, that this might be a long-standing Tomlin approach. I know at a certain point Ben audibled out of plays freely because who was going to argue with him? But I also remember the friction between him and Haley. To your eye, have audibles been prohibited for a long time?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Speaking of eyes, you have a keen one.

Gerry, What are the Steelers good at?  What is the Steelers identity?  What are their strengths?  (Besides Boswell).  They can't stop the run, can throw the ball can't run, don
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I've noticed they're pretty good at going 10-7.

Gerry, one last question, why doesn't Pickens, or any receiver in this offense, run more routes over the middle?  Quick screens and deep balls are all I've seen thrown their way.
Gerry Dulac
10:18
That one should be directed at Arthur Smith

Based on actions, do you think ARII is willing to make the tough player decisions like DR did (i.e. not renewing a HOF'er  and fan favorite like Polamalu, etc.)?  I think the Steelers organization is class but sometimes you have to make some tough business decisions and when you're this far away from the top tier, cut deep.
Gerry Dulac
10:20
That is to be determined going forward.

Perhaps because I'm not actually living in Pittsburgh, but I'm not nearly as pessimistic heading into the offseason as most fans seem to be. Finding a QB is the only thing that matters - it's really hard to do, but  once you do, we see that it makes you instantly competitive, almost no matter what the rest of the roster looks like (Commanders, Broncos). Draft a WR, CB, D-Line, sign a WR - wouldn't we feel pretty good about that roster heading into 2025?
Gerry Dulac
10:21
The pessimism around here seems to revolve around the head coach more than the roster makeup.

Do you think the reports that Smith didn't let Wilson change plays hindered the offense down the stretch? It seems like that may have been a serious issue if true. And why did MT let that happen?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
It seemed to work in Cincinnati, right??
Jim
10:23
If all the reports are true about the disfunction in the offense, it makes it more compelling that we should have moved on from MT, no?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
That doesn't have to be the solution.

It used to be BPA in the draft, then it was best BPA at area of need. Looking at the last 18 years draft picks has below average results. Last year focusing on OL has a chance. This year DL has to be a priority, including first round! The game is won in the trenches. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Yes it does.

Gerry. Is it fair to say that if you had a better offensive line i.e. pass protection Wilson might be the better choice. If the offensive line is not playing well and not  protecting well, then perhaps Fields would be the better choice because of his ability to extend plays with his feet
Gerry Dulac
10:24
Well, that is something of which they are well aware

How much blame truly falls on Najee Harris? OC changes, scheme, in experience OL play and not much of a passing game?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I don't blame Najee for anything. OK, maybe he's not a game-breaker or difference-maker. And maybe he could use a little better vision sometimes. But the guy has never missed a game, despite the pounding he takes, and has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons. Do you know that no other RB in the league can make that claim since 2001? Productive and durable. That's a pretty good combo.

If the coaches truly thought Warren was the better back, as the majority of man fans say, then why didn’t he start in your opinion? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:27
That is the choice of the head coach, that's why

How does your recent article on the Smith/Wison relationship affect your ability to interview Tomlin and the Steeler brass moving forward?  Great article by the way!
Gerry Dulac
10:28
Not at all.
Chill Dave
10:28
Hi Gerry, as you allude to in your SB pick, the Chiefs have great schemes that allow them to overcome their very good, not great roster.  (Not discounting Mahomes, of course).  Do you think Tomlin recognizes how far behind the curve he is on schemes?  The fact that other teams know what they are doing has to show up on all the film he likes to refer to.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I can't say if he recognizes it, but others do.

GM Gerry- when will a decision be made on QB? Also, any rumblings of who is being targeted in FA?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Soon. Still a little more than a month till FA
Najee
10:29
Who were the people inside the organization that wanted Fields to continue to start after going 4-2? Are those the same insiders who want to resign Fields for 2025?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Probably.
Ken
10:29
Gerry.... I'm not sure there is any pros to bringing back Russell other than to guarantee we won't win 4 games if fields fails.     What is the ceiling with Russ ...we saw all of it.     For an owner that sits there and says we are not close to the top teams why not build up the roster and save some money plug other holes and see what the young kid has for 17 games. What say you
Gerry Dulac
10:30
I say I see your point and you're not wrong at all

How can the Steelers possibly keep Russell Wilson and Arthur Smith if the reports of Wilson being handcuffed in calling audibles is true
Gerry Dulac
10:30
Obviously, that is something that has to be worked out between the two -- if it can be worked out.
