Hello Gerry . Thank you as always for the chat . Do you not think that the Steelers offensive failure at the end of season can be blamed on head butting between Wilson and Arthur Smith ? If something was working at the beginning of the season then why restrict Wilson from changing plays at the line depending on defensive alignment? All good QBs are allowed to do it . Do you think it’s because Smith always wanted Fields more than Wilson ? Should Tomlin as a CEO not intervened and allow Wilson the freedom ? It all makes me want Wilson give one more chance . What say you ?

I think a lot of what you say is true. But I think a lot of what happened too had to do with personnel groupings, predictability and sameness. I'm not sure if Arthur Smith always preferred Fields, but it was apparent he had no issues with him running the offense the way he preferred.

With all the dysfunction being reported regarding the Steelers, do you think we may have judged Pickett too harshly for quitting on this mess of a  team?

No I do not.

Hello . Thank you for the chat . At what stage do you think are the negotiations between Steelers and Wilson/ Fields ? When do you expect any QB signing ? Thank you

Early talks right now, but not negotiating. More about deciding which way you want to go with what QB

Morning Gerry - What do you think the chances are that we sign Fields to a 2-year deal and also draft Will Howard? Thanks

I think the chances of signing Fields to a two-year deal are better than drafting Howard. And I think it might just be that the chances are better they would sign Wilson if they intend to draft Howard. But the decision to sign either QB would be made well in advance of the draft.

I say the overwhelming pessimism of Steelers fans this offseason is being exacerbated by two things: 1) We don't feel close to having a solution at QB, which is really the only thing that matters for a franchise (or, if you don't have it, nothing else matters, I guess); and 2) Every other team in town also stinks. I know the Steelers rule the town, but if the Pens were in a playoff chase and if the Pirates had spent some money this offseason, we'd all back off the ledge and give the team a chance to operate. What say you?

I think your No. 1 is a more viable reason than your No. 2
OK kids, that's all for today. Thanx for the questions. Lot of good ones.
