I really like some of the names I hear the Steelers are interviewing for their staff, particularly Charles London.  I also read that New Orleans will not retain Ronald Curry who has a good resume as a WR coach and passing game coordinator.  Do you know if the Steelers have interest in him?  Should they?

I'm sorry, I can't say for certainty those are legit candidates, but I'm sure they are being discussed.

Mason is a very cerebral QB.  So was Ben.  Purdy is as well.  Brady was the ultimate cerebral QB.  Why all the talk about mobile quarterbacks?  Hasn't it been proven time and time again that smarts are needed at the QB position and that will trump running every time?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
I get your point, but did you see Purdy run last week. That is very underestimated part of his game. And while Ben wasn't a runner, go watch old films of him and his escapability in the pocket and keeping alive plays. Probably more impressive than just about any QB today

Since some players (Pickens and Johnson) reportedly prefer for Mason Rudolph to be the starter, wouldn't that be a reason to not resign him? Couldn't that lead to problems in the locker room and put added pressure on Pickett?

I think you have the question backward.

Morning, Gerry. I’ve always been a supporter of Coach Tomlin, while acknowledging that nobody is perfect. His biggest flaw in my view is how the team concedes to opponents on how they’re going to play, instead of forcing the opponent to adjust. And it’s not a Canada thing. It’s been going on forever. Why ignore Freiermuth in the second Cincy game just because he tore them up the first game? Why ignore Pickens just because he had a big game last week? Other teams have players that we all know are great and those teams aren’t going to NOT utilize those guys just because they know the opponent will TRY to shut them down. Have you seen this and do we think it might finally change w Arthur Smith and some other changes?

What I have seen for years in the NFL is that if a defense wants to take away a player, they will. The good teams have ways (or other players) to overcome that.

What are the chances of Tomlin hiring Hines Ward and why wouldn't he?
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Maybe he doesn't feel he's ready. And maybe Hines doesn't want to coach for him.

What is Pickett missing?

Gerry, Looks like a weak DL draft class and quite a few good free agents at this position who might the Steelers target to fill this need if they go this direction
Gerry Dulac
10:56
yeah, not a good class for high DL.

I don't dislike the hiring of Arthur Smith.  I think he was the 3rd best choice behind Zac Robinson and Klint Kubiak.  Do you know if Steelers reached out Kubiak in any way to gauge his interest?  Should they have?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
I am not aware of that. But it's possible he was on their list to be interviwed, which was lengthier than the three candidates who visited the South Side.

GM Gerry, long overdue need for stud D Line to pair/replace Cam.  Equal need to finally find a stud Center which has been centerpiece for years of Steelers success in the trenches and our running game.  Been missing this since pouncey retired.  Big question come April.  Your thoughts.

Gerry, any scoop if this Sir Arthur dude has any game? Because as everybody knows, you can’t really trust a man who can’t get around a municipal layout in 83 strokes or fewer, including a breakfast ball of course.

What degree of input/influence/decision making will the new OC have on who his QB is?  Assuming they can sign Mason, what if he saw enough of Mason at the end of the season to want Mason as his starter or at least make sure Mason gets half of the first team reps during camp, etc?

Gerry, everyone is saying real nice things about Cook, so any interest in exploring the contrarian view with some juicy tidbits and/or anecdotes?
Gerry Dulac

Nope

Gerry, if you were a man of similar means, would your first application be to Augusta, that decent layout along the PA turnpike, Cypress Point or Shinnecock?

Gerry, when you call it a day, will the praise be as effusive as when Cook hanged them up?

Impossible

You know, it seems like ex-head coaches do well with the Steelers.  Look at Lebeau, Munchak and Haley.  Don't you think Smith can do the same?
Gerry Dulac

I believe Tomlin is a good to great coach who probably deserves to be in the HOF.  I also believe he received the keys to success by inheriting a great team only 2 years removed from the SB, with a good to great assistant coaches he was told to retain, a winning culture and a future HOF QB entering his prime.  He deserves credit for winning the SB with it and going to another.  That doesn't mean he's the right guy to rebuild (or retool) it.  Agree or disagree?

Does the fact that Zac Robinson accepted the Atlanta OC position without interviewing for Steelers OC position say anything about the desirability of the Steelers OC position under Tomlin as compared to Cowher?  I feel that Cowher would have at least gotten the interview.

Does Hines Ward have a legitimate shot at being hired and if not, why not?
