OK kids, we're going to get started in a couple minutes so get ready...

OK, let's get started...

Gerry:  The Steelers have had a disturbing number of high draft picks that have good to even great (Claypool, Bush) rookie years only to level off (Edmunds, Najee), regress (Burns, Pickett, Benton, Porter Jr) or completely implode (Claypool, Bush, maybe Jones) in year 2 or 3.  My theory is that most of these guys came from top college programs where they had the best coaching and training staffs that micromanaged their lives.  They get to Tomlin's system and that college training carries them through their rookie year, but eventually they regress in some combination of training, technique, preparation or off field habits.  Do you think this is the problem or is it something else and does it really matter who the Steelers draft if they can't seem to develop anybody anymore?
Gerry Dulac

If what you detailed, which was impressive, is indeed true, that would be a reflection of the coaching staff and their inability to develop players or a flaw in the character of the people they are drafting who are not committed to doing what is necessary to succeed at the highest level.

When Kenny Pickett came into the Superbowl with 2:50 left for garbage time, can you admit that you thought of me, Bill in LA?

First thought!!

Gerry, We know the Steelers never go into full "re-build mode" but my question is SHOULD they?  Trade Minkah, Pickens, maybe T.J., accumulate draft capital, and look two years down the road.  What's your take?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I think part of what you suggest is reasonable, and maybe even foreshadowing when it comes to Pickens. But, hey, let's be realistic here -- the Steelers haven't imploded after all. They have been in the postseason four of the past five years so it's not like they are a total disaster in need of a full re-build.

I think we need two quality (big, strong and fast) picks for the DL in the first 3 picks, but I’m afraid the first pick could be WR.  Do you share the same concern?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
No. But I agree with what you think they need.
YINZER Tom
10:06
Gerry, who would you bet your 401k on as Steelers starting qb in 2025?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
I don't bet.

Gerry: Do you think part of Najee's problem with the Steelers is that he constantly had to run out of a set that included 3 TEs and a blocking WR like Jefferson, Skowronek, or Allan Robinson in 2023?  I call this their "here we come" offense. It provides absolutely no threat downfield for the defense to worry about and no element of surprise.  Could Najee excel with a team that spreads the defense out and has more vertical passing threats?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
I'm not going to disagree with that one. I think more imagination is in order.

Wasn’t it the case for many years that NFL teams believed “mobile quarterbacks” were too risky to take in the draft because of high injury rates, Robert Griffin III being just one example? What happened such that high risk of injury is no longer a concern for NFL teams? (Justin Fields by the way missed a total of 9 games in 3 years in Chicago due to injuries).
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Yeah, that's gone out the window. A mobile QB just gives the team an added dimension.

Gerry, Jay Glazer said Russell Wilson will not be returning to the Steelers. Didn’t present it as opinion. Said it like it’s a fact. Given his relationship with Mike Tomlin, shouldn’t we assume he’s getting that information from the head coach?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Pretty good assumption Dan. But there might be others in the organization who don't agree with Mike Tomlin.

Gerry, if the Steelers could re-sign Najee for 3 years and $18 million, would they do it?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
That's not just a hypothetical question, it might turn out to be a realistic one.

DL is first round pick send in the card! Do they also attempt to bring in Milton Williams (Weidl connection and price may be to high?) or is CB Byron Murphy more of a possibility?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
All I know LL is the defensive line needs a total rebuild and youth infusion of two No. 1 picks.
Tim
10:12
I agree with you that d line must be addressed, but Steelers never turn away from an offensive skill position.  Some might argue wr is as dire as d line.  Either way, after 4 rounds they must add in some order:dline, wr, rb and db.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
You're right about that. They never turn their back on a skill player who has a high grade.

Gerry, Art Rooney recently bragged about Grady Brown in an interview. Saying they had assistant coaches thought highly enough to interview for promotions. Brown talked to Atlanta about its D-Coordinator job. What happened here?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I missed that interview where he said that.

Bill Cowher believes the Steelers will consider Aaron Rodgers this offseason. Is Bill experimenting with legal recreational marijuana now that he’s living in NYC?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Haha. Can't imagine that happening -- the Aaron Rodgers part, that is.

In a recent interview with Ryan Clark, James Harrison seemed to have more praise and appreciation for Keith Butler than he did MT, for his growth and development. Did Keith retire or get forced out?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
He retired. He had enough.

Hello Gerry, Watching the Eagles Organization accomplish,  is Weidl here being held back by the current state of affairs with the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Andy Weidl is the asst GM, not the GM. Nobody is holding him back
Cowher Power
10:15
It’s infuriating to see our offense consistently fail to pick up a yard or two for a key first down or hit a complete wall in the red zone.  What is the one thing the team needs to do to get better in short yardage situations?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Be more creative
Marty
10:16
Do you think Omar Khan and Andy Weidl can pull off  FA signings and draft choices like the Eagles did this year to get us back as contenders?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Yes I do. That's Omar's job.
Tim
10:16
I found it odd that the Eagles had their back up qb close out the Super Bowl.  Do you believe that Kenny Puckett’s knee to superdome turf will be his one shining moment?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Still to be determined. But that had to be cool for him.

Heard that Ed gave up his MVP vote, why in the heck would Pittsburgh not want somebody voting. Who ultimately decides if Pittsburgh has representation?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I don't know that answer. The Associated Press handles all that
