what's your feeling about defensive lineman Walton, doesn't play much but when he does he doesn't look bad, I've always felt we should play more defensive linemen in a game , 6 at least and I think he would be pretty good in rotation
Gerry Dulac
12:12
The Steelers rotated their DL more this year than recent years. That was the plan of their new DLine coach, Karl Dunbar. But I think they need a new young backup with a big upside. McCullers and Walton are just average players.

12:12
do you think Steelers would prefer to trade for good Veteran defensive player(s) for AB as opposed to draft picks?  Or a combination of lower draft pick and a  Veteran corner for AB?
Gerry Dulac
12:13
Depends on the draft pick. But, for example, if the trade was Patrick Peterson for AB, straight up, I'd do it. And I think they would too.

Gerry love your chats, thanks for all you do. Any idea when the Bell & Brown drama will be over?
Gerry Dulac
12:13
March 17 at the latest.

So, does #NewDemands mean that AB wants a new contract?  Is that at least part of what's driving him to agitate his way out of town?
Gerry Dulac
12:14
Oh, he already agitated himself out of town. That has NOTHING to do with it. But, yes, that's what it means.
Steel Curtain
12:14
I think it's necessary to get a player in return for AB.  A draft pick is not going to help us win this year.  A pick in addition to a player would be ideal.  Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
12:14
Of course that would be ideal. Doesn't mean they will get that.
KC
12:14
Gerry: many football analysts say it would be best to resurrect the AB relationship, come to an understanding with him about discipline and retain him. They feel it gives Pgh the best opportunity to win a 7th. How do you feel about that? And it worth trying one more time?
Gerry Dulac
12:17
Those people have absolutely no clue what they're talking about. Those people have no clue about the climate in the locker room and what bringing him back would do. Those people have no clue of the many transgressions AB has committed the past couple years. The only people who think that are former players who like to think the players call the shots, that the players are bigger than the game. And they're not.

Do the steelers keep their home town boy in James?  He has been their most durable end since miller retired.
Gerry Dulac
12:19
That will be up to Jesse James. I think he will get a decent offer in free agency, more than the Steelers will likely offer, and he will take it. Salaries for backup tight ends, even bad ones, are better than you would imagine. JJ is better than a lot of those, even though he's not a great blocker. I think that's the other reason the Steelers will be willing to part with him.

No way the Steelers release AB so he can go to any team?  Including any AFC team.  I say trade him to the worst QB'ed team in the NFC and watch the sideshow next year.  What say you?
Gerry Dulac
12:21
They're not going to release him. Someone will want him in a trade, no question. But I'm sure the Steelers would like to bury him somewhere, just as they would like to do with LeV Bell. But they will consider the best deal, even if it's to a good situation.

When Bell didn't turn up at the beginning of the season, some Steelers were very vocal with their displeasure. With Brown skipping a game and the ensuing drama, we haven't heard many Steelers being critical or maybe I missed it. Is this a product of players' difference in opinion toward Bell vs. Brown, or have they just been told to keep that stuff in house more?
Gerry Dulac
12:21
You missed it.

Hi Gerry and thanks for giving us the time.  So do you think the Steelers break away from the "Steeler Way" a bit regarding free agency and bring in a top FA instead of someones leftovers, namely on Defense? The Pats (Gilmore) and Rams (Peters, Talib, Suh) have proven it works and hasn't affected their chemistry. Thank you Sir
Gerry Dulac
12:23
It depends on the player. Joe Haden, for example, was a great pickup who provided great chemistry and leadership, even though he didn't come in free agency. I think you will see them go after a very good CB in free agency rather than rely on the draft, where their history of finding CBs under Mike Tomlin is abysmal.

Love the Chats! What is the "REAL" story about the Brown Big Ben feud? I'm starting to wonder if Ben isn't entirely clean so to speak?
Gerry Dulac
12:24
He is, despite the nonsense being spewed by national people who have no idea what happened
The Standard
12:24
Hi, Gerry, Any sense the Steelers fill the need at CB in FA over the draft?  I think a FA CB and an ILB drafted in 1st RD will significantly improve the D.
Gerry Dulac
12:24
See above answer. I think they will. And they should. Shame on them if they don't.
KC
12:25
Gerry: it was good to see the Ravens trade Flacco, I don't think Jackson is a starting QB. What are your feelings about Jackson long term?
Gerry Dulac
12:27
We shall see. I don't judge teams after one good season (see Raiders 2016, Jaguars 2017, maybe Browns 2018), and I don't judge players (RG3, Derek Carr) the same way. Let's see what happens after teams have had an offseason to prepare for them.

12:27
If you had to guess--which, it seems, is all we can do at this point--would you think the Steelers front office is going to take Position A: "Deal AB at any cost, best deal we can get at this point, addition by subtraction"? Or Position B: "There is a floor to a deal we're willing to accept, and we always have the option of enforcing the existing contract"?
Gerry Dulac
12:28
You can forget B. That ain't happening.
Nick
12:28
Gerry, thanks for your chats. I always wondered, what does a player do if he has to pee real bad when the game in progress? Does he go to the wall and take a wiz?
Gerry Dulac
12:28
You'd be surprised what they do if they can't go to the locker room
Chuck_in_DC
12:28
You're probably tired of this question... but is staying with Dupree at OLB REALLY our only option?  In my humble opinion, he contributes nothing to the defense... may as well put a traffic cone on that side...
Gerry Dulac
12:28
I'm not going to argue

Do you think AB didn’t like the team rules he would have to follow? Hence his asking for a trade?
Gerry Dulac
12:30
I think it's more about the Steelers finally not liking the team rules he didn't follow. But it goes beyond that: His antics before the final game and his subsequent insubordinate behavior is why he and the Steelers are in this position.

I’ve seen some ridiculous articles proclaiming 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks as busts.  It’s my understanding that 5th-7th round picks do well just to make the team.  In your opinion, does that term only potentially apply to a player taken in the first 3 rounds?
Gerry Dulac
12:31
I agree. I don't even call third-round picks a "bust." At best, I call them disappointments or misfires.
BigEd
12:31
Hey Gerry. I really hope they trade this punk. This team needs more "team" players than "me" players. We've won SBs with less. You dont wanna be here, bye!!!
Gerry Dulac
12:33
I've said it many times, the Steelers won Super Bowls before AB and Lev Bell, they'll win Super Bowls after them. And I don't need to point up that they've never won a Super Bowl with both of them. They went to one with AB and that's when he was a non-contributing rookie (except that helmet catch against the Ravens).
Jack Straw
12:33
I think the Steelers should still invite Antonio Brown back for the Super Bowl Team Reunions.  Oops! That's right, there weren't any.
Gerry Dulac

Pay the man!! He's here all week....
