There still hasn't been an extension of Tomlin's contract, even though Rooney and Tomlin both have been on record that they expect to get it done.  Could this be smoke that there is a possibility that MT walks away after the 2024 season?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
No smoke. Won't be done until the spring, which is when it usually happens.

11:13
FIELDS? Is the speculation just the mainstream media hyping this up, or is there real interest within the organization?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
It makes for a good rumor.

Colbert's drafts in 18', 19' and 20' we have TWO players remaining - Alex H and DJ. That speaks volumes of how awful his drafting was at the end. Can we agree his tenure was highly overrated?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
You can. I don't agree.

Does the potential lack of 1st round caliber DL talent impact your often stated position that the Steelers should take a DL in round 1?  At what point is it worth reaching for a DL?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
Yes it does. Not a lot to choose from where the Steelers will be drafting. But you never know.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  I know you have said KP will be the starter and I agree but should he be is more my question.  Look what the 49ers did with Purdy.  They traded up to get Trey Lance wasting a lot of draft capital.  But when Purdy turned out to be better they not only demoted him but traded him.  Decision worked to play the better QB.  Just unclear why Tomlin wouldnt do the same.  No one will care about wasting number 1 pick if you are winning playoff games
Gerry Dulac
11:15
You make an excellent point.

I've read a lot of posts from fans that think the sky is falling because the Steelers don't have a QB like KC or SF and they didn't hire a young, inventive OC. Am I out of touch to think they won't get a franchise type QB in this draft (unless extremely lucky in the later rounds) or the near future so why wouldn't you build your team around your best players on offense (RB) and build up your defense to get stops. 3 and outs and ball control can be just as effective at negating the other team franchise QB, especially if you don't have one of your own.
Gerry Dulac
11:17
You are not out of touch, and what you suggest is very possible, if not viable. Hey, not everybody has a Patrick Mahomes.

What do you think the likelihood of the Steelers signing Russell Wilson if he’s cut?  Hopefully they don’t!
Gerry Dulac
11:18
They would only sign Russell Wilson if they don't re-sign Mason Rudolph. Otherwise, I don't think it's likely at all. But he does have a good off-the-field connection with the Steelers.

If the Steelers traded for Fields, wouldn’t they pretty much have to pick up his 5th year option?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
You would think, if they made a trade, they were doing so to have him for the future, not just one season. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it, though.

Mr. Dulac, Thank you for your contributions.  Do you agree with those that say the main reason KP looked better in the preseason last year was because he was playing against poor defenses, or is it something else?  He seemed to lose confidence in throwing the ball down the field.
Gerry Dulac
11:20
I never judge any player by how they perform in the preseason. Means nothing.

Will the steelers address the oline more an will they trade dj or pickens
Gerry Dulac
11:22
It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them address the O-line, especially center. They're not going to trade Pickens and they're not going to trade DJ, especially if they release Allen Robinson.

What can the Steelers do to let Minkah play the ball hawking style that he excelled at when he first joined the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
That's actually what they're trying to do by moving him around as much as they do.

Hi Gerry.  Who do you believe the QB will be to compete with Pickett in training camp?  Rudolph, Tannehill or other?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
I believe it will be Rudolph
Red Flags?
11:22
I read that the new WR coach was affiliated with AB at Central Michigan.  Do you know if they still have a relationship?  If so, isn't this exactly the type of culture that the Steelers should want to avoid?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Let's hope not. And it wouldn't matter at all if he did
Wrong Plan
11:23
Looking at the Super Bowl teams and contenders, all had solid coaching staffs and a top notch QB.  Our decisions in the postseason were to keep Tomlin and make Pickett the starter again.  Do any of the decisions even move the needle after these decisions?  Yes, we hired a new OC and will bring in some new players, but isn't that just putting lipstick on a pig?

What is the highest round you see the Steelers adding a QB in this years draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
Sixth. Maybe seventh.

Hey Gerry. I realize this is a steelers chat but I would have loved to see another KC player flatten #87 after his attack on the head coach. If that actually happened, would the NFL levy any type of fine or punishment against that player for a little vigilante justice?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Agreed. Better yet, I'd love to see him do that to Dan Campbell, who would kick his you-know-what into the next Taylor Swift album. I would hope the NFL would tell the Chiefs to fine him a significant amount, and if they refuse the league would. Disgraceful, disrespectful and embarrassing.

11:26
Any Chance you can see the Steelers taking a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round? Maybe like a Bo Nix if they are available? I saw someone say this draft is has more QB talent as whole than we've seen for 10-15 years. Also, surprised its taken this long for a Tomlin Extension. Do you seem them cutting Patrick Peterson or Ogunjobi? Both don't seem worth their contracts at all.
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Nope.

Hypothetical question about choosing to receive or defer:                                                                                Say you are the head coach in 2004, coin toss rules are different and it's a playoff game, half time, and your team is down by 10 or 14 points and the opponent is the Indianapolis Colts with Manning. You win the coin toss to begin the 2nd half- do you kick off or receive?                                           Back then Shanahan chose to kick off and put the ball back in Manning's hands and Peyton ate up the clock, scored a few times and eventually won by 3 or 4 touchdowns.                                                 Just curious how you would choose in that situation.                                                                      By the way, I'm happy to see Gradishar get in the HOF

Under today's OT rules, I think I might choose to kick

Gerry, if the 49ers can move on quickly from on from QBs for which they have expended significant precious draft capital, why pray tell cannot the local NFL franchise see that is the wiser course of action, than God forbid, admitting that they made a draft blunder?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
Well, I think the 49ers realized that Trey Lance was never going to be an NFL QB and they moved on from him. I don't think the Steelers think Kenny Pickett is Trey Lance.
QB Killer
11:28
Tomlin's plans to replace Ben so far have been to draft Pickett way too early, draft Oladukon when Purdy was available, sign Trubisky and hand him the starting job, and bury Mason on the depth chart until he had no other options.  Could he have handled this worse?  It seems like picking a QB isn't his specialty.  Shouldn't someone else in the organization make these decisions moving forward?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
So, just to be clear, Tomlin didn't draft Chris Oladokun, Kevin Colbert did with the final pick he was given to end his career. And signing a veteran QB such as Trubisky to serve as the buffer until your rookie No. 1 was ready was the right move, too. The wrong move was throwing Pickett is there so early. And not even giving Rudolph a sniff in camp and the preseason to be the starter was the other. But Mike Tomlin is in charge of the team and roster decisions, 99.9 percent of the time.
