Your thoughts on whether or not Najee is extended?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
I think his fifth-year option could be and possibly will be picked up this season, but I don't think he will be given a contract extension. If you look at what's happening around the league, chances of a RB getting a second contract after his rookie deal aren't exactly great. Look at what the Steelers did with Le'Veon Bell, a back who was more productive and impactful than Harris?

Gerry this weekend you wrote that the Steelers wouldn’t be pursuing a starting QB in offseason. But then you said on Rich Eisen that you would only be mildly surprised if Steelers traded for Fields. What you wrote seems to rule out what you said? Can you clarify?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
I just said it wouldn't "shock" me if they did, ONLY because of how they much they liked him in the draft. But what I wrote is, it is not their intention to bring in a potential starter because they haven't given up on Pickett

Gerry your colleagues at the PG have said they don’t think a Diontae Johnson extension is likely. If that’s the case, why not trade him this offseason?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I tend to agree.

Hi, Gerry thanks for the chats!!  How about the Steelers trade Dionate Johnson, get rid of some of the drama in the receivers room. Then make a play for Tyler Boyd in free agency and then draft someone like Roman Wilson, Brendan Rice , or Luke McCaffrey. I feel Tyler Boyd would be a much better veteran mentor then Johnson and one of those rookies could really add to the wide receiver room.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
I don't think Tyler Boyd for Diontae Johnson, which effectively is what you are proposing, is an equal swap. All that aside, don't rule out them drafting a WR before the second day is over

Gerry, you seem to be a big supporter of 88. Do you have no concern of his reliability when considering a new contract?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
I am, and if you are referring to his reliability in terms of injuries, I don't have any concern.

Hi Gerry! The mock draft Simulators I use (way to often) seem to have Jackson Powers-Johnson even above the 20th Pick. Do you think, that's accurate? ps Man do I like his college Highlights!
Gerry Dulac
10:17
Typically, centers don't go that high. But I'm with ya.

We need a C…badly. All those bad snaps and poor blocking in the middle of the line were a big part of plays gone bad in my opinion. Shouldn’t that be the draft priority?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
I think it will be. I've said this before: The Steelers like Mason Cole, but I think they would like him a whole lot better if he were their backup C/G

Hi Gerry, What year will the Steelers win their next playoff game? 2024?  2025?  2026?  Later?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
2024

If another team called with interest in trading for Pickett, do you think Steelers management would at least consider the idea?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
What's going on here -- another great question!! Depends what they were offering. I'm not saying they would, and I don't think they would, but it would certainly be cause for a meeting to discuss.

can you please tell The Steelers that if there is a QB available in the 6th or 7th round whose last name is 5 letters long and ends in -dy, then DRAFT THAT GUY?! thanks ;)
Gerry Dulac
10:22
And I will tell you the Steelers liked Purdy and thought he might be a 5th or 6th round pick in the draft. Then they went and drafted Chris Oladokun in the seventh round with Purdy still there. Yikes

Having a QB under a rookie contract is a Team advantage. I must be the minority and believe Fields is NOT the answer (another unwanted Bear). One more year with KP8 and hopefully MR, spend the money elsewhere and see where we are at next year. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
That's why year 3 is a big one for Kenny Pickett and the Steelers. They will find out if he's the guy with whom they want to go forward.

Gerry, your pick for The Players, assuming you still care about pro golf due to its silly, annoying, greedy and disjointed nature?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
I care, but you forgot watered-down

Gerry, What is the infatuation with Dan Moore Jr.? Would he be a starting LT on any other team in the NFL? First round pick Broderick Jones received next to zero first team reps at LT all spring/summer. Can you foresee MT leaving Moore at LT and Jones at RT again if they are unable to acquire a RT in the draft?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
Dan Moore has been a starter since the first game of his rookie season, and how many LTs can say that?? I can't tell you what their "infatuation" is, but obviously they think he is good enough to man the most important position on the offensive line. Is he a Pro Bowl LT? No. But is he terrible as you appear to be suggesting? No.
John
10:27
Hi Gerry,  This still bothers me but I want your honest opinion. If you had to bet $1 million either way, would you bet that Tomlin DID or DID NOT intentionally step on the field to get in the way of the Raven kick returner? He still claims it was an "accident."
Gerry Dulac
10:29
And I believe it was. Mike Tomlin might be many things to a lot of people who don't like him, but he is not someone who would deliberately disrupt the integrity of the game. That would be an easy $1 million win.

10:29
Gerry, any new sticks in the bag to kick off the 2024 season?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Oh yeah.
Lou Rawls
10:29
Is there a chance the Steelers are deflecting talk about Fields  saying they are 100% in on Pickett to lower the asking price for Fields? I believe MT when he says Pickett is his QB.  But... if the asking price drops to what the Steelers would be willing to pay, could they pull the trigger ? Yes they could but would they pull the trigger?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
Well, understand the Steelers "deflect" talk about every player because they NEVER talk about any player that is not one of their own. So there is no subterfuge on their part. But, yeah, if the asking price got lower, they and every other team looking for a quarterback with his natural ability would be jumping in the discussion.

No doubt coaching and prep has been part of the issue at the start of playoff games of late, but why do you constantly ignore that against Jax and Cle Ben had 6 (SIX!!) turnovers in the first half of those games, all leading to points? Just like the two in the first half against Buffalo lead to points…but I guess that’s all MT’s fault because he obviously coached and told Ben, Mason, and Pickens to turn it over and give the defense short fields to work in right?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
I'll make sure I bring that up to the other HOF voters when he's up for induction.
John
10:32
Hi Gerry, Will Tomlin reward the Steelers for his contract extension with his first losing season and last place in the AFCN? It would have been last year except for Joe Burrow missing both games.
Gerry Dulac
10:33
Yeah, and maybe they would have won the division title if Cam Heyward, Diontae Johnson and Pat Freiermuth didn't go on IR or Matt Canada would have been fired earlier of if 2/3 of their ILBs weren't lost for the season. Same argument.
TxSteeler
10:34
After hearing about the excessive fines levied to Pickens from the team (in excess of over $100k beyond what the league has also fined him if the reports are accurate) can we put to bed the notion that nobody inside the building, including Mike Tomlin, is holding him accountable?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Fines don't get a player's attention. Sitting them down, lack of playing time, sends a message. But that isn't going to happen, either, because a coach's job is to win and earn his million-dollar contract, or even another multi-million-dollar contract, and that's what we're dealing with in today's world of professional sports. It's the same reason nothing happens to Travis Kelce for his disrespectful act in the Super Bowl. I just wish that was Dan Campbell he did that to. He wouldn't have gone back in the game because he would have been too beat up to do so.

Hey Gerry! Don’t you think it’s time for Steeler fans to just stop trying to find our next “franchise QB”? Besides the 49ers going from Montana to Young and Greenbay from Favre to Rogers, it just doesn’t happen that often. Those of us of a certain age remember those years, and forgettable QB’s that came and went between Bradshaw and Rothlesberger. Do you agree that there’s no quick fix and we may have to wait a few years to get the right guy?
Gerry Dulac
