Gerry, thanks for the chat. Going back to the question above about end of season demises, isn’t it the case that they face some sort of adversity and don’t respond? This could be injuries like shazier or bud or bloated heads like brown quitting and Tomlin’s overconfidence (in the case of Jacksonville year). Maybe the problem is that they don’t have the right team leaders, like farrior and ward and Bettis who command a certain level of performance?

Much of what I've read is of the Rudolph vs. Haskins variety, with little chance for the latter. Any thought to going the way the Saints have done with Taysom Hill? Use him as a wildcat, wr and mobile qb. He could still be the No. 3 And it keeps the defenses guessing and the Saints have been very successful doing this.

Are the NFL owners allowed to unilaterally add a 17th game to the schedule? What, if anything, does that do to existing player contracts? If I'm making $X for 16 games, and then suddenly I'm making the same amount for 17 games, haven't I taken an unexpected pay cut?

No, it has to be agreed upon by the owners and collectively bargained with the players union. Pay would be adjusted.
