Gerry Dulac's Steelers chat: 03.07.22

I cannot think of ANY game where Mike Tomlin's late decision making proved the difference and gave the Steelers the win. However, I can think of ALOT of games where his decision making on everything from time outs, not going for it, punting, etc COST the Steelers the game. As such I don't consider him a "great coach". Concur?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I disagree. You are nit-picking. You only remember the curious decisions that you don't agree with. You don't remember the ones he makes that help win games, probably because they are not as visible. He's not winning all these games by accident you know.

There is a possibility that both Pickett and Willis will be available when the Steelers pick at 20. Do you pick either one of them or do you pick a best available OL or DL such as Davis/Green/Linderbaum?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I take the best DL with the highest grade. But nothing surprises me.
Bruce
11:11
In your opinion what would the Steelers have to give up in order to get Mitchell Trubisky?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Nothing. He's a free agent. It's just a question how much money they want to spend.
Jeff
11:12
Thanks for the chats Jerry.  I think there is a better chance of me joining you for dual chats that Rodgers coming to Pittsburgh.  Why does anyone, particularly people who do this for a living even report the nonsense?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Not sure. But that's what it is -- nonsense. And I go solo on the chats. grinning

Any word on whether Haden is gone or not? Can't believe the Steelers will pay big money for him and he should not take a discount as this is his last contract that could get him some big bucks.
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Joe Haden is going to test free agency to see if he can get one final multi-year contract. The Steelers know this. If that doesn't happen, they are amenable to bringing him back.
Jeff
11:13
If Decastros issues were all about his ankle is there a chance he comes back after a season off?  might add some depth?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Depth? He wouldn't come back as a backup. But, no, I don't expect him to come back.
AJ
11:14
Gerry, who out of all the FA QB's do you think the Steelers have the most interest in?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
Based on the things they have said during and after the season, I would say Willis because he is the most mobile of the group.

Gerry will Steelers re-sign Edmunds? Seems Colbert is still trying to justify drafting a 3rd rounder in the first round.
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Second-rounder, but I get your point. I think they should sign him. He's dependable and solid, not flashy. He is judged by the fact he was a 1st round pick. If he were a 2nd or 3rd round pick, everyone would think he's a steal.

Gerry, really looking forward to the Aaron Rodgers discussion being put to bed.   Not only does it not make sense for what the Steelers would have to "give up", as a steeler fan now living in WI, it also doesn't make sense in what the steelers would have to "put up" with - this would be an epic bad fit across every dimension.  While it may make for a titillating national story - hopefully that's all that it is.
Gerry Dulac
11:17
Yes it would. And that's all it is. It's not like the Steelers are a QB away from the Super Bowl and Rodgers would be the missing piece. They have other issues that need fixed beside an aging QB

11:18
Gerry, apologies if you have already answered this, but do you see the Steelers leaning more towards FA when it comes to OL and CB based on needing veteran experience in one, and having a horrible draft history in the other?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
Yes, especially OL as a priority. And the only way they have found solid DBs is through free agency or trades. They should forget ever drafting a CB.
Greg
11:18
Gerry - Thanks for all of your hard work between reasons! Any WR you would take with the number 1 pick?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Not with the No. 1 pick. But it's a deep class of WRs and there should be some decent ones on second and third rounds.
Greg
11:19
Would you please share some more insight on Tuitt? What percent was his season off due to personal issue and what percent due to injury?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
None of it was due to injury. Oh, he had a minor knee procedure at the end of training camp after reporting out of shape. But that was fine and he was good to go a month or so later.

Gerry, did you have a chance to see Cam's brother at the combine?  Any impressions?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
I did not. Sorry

What position group do you think we'll target in FA and likely pull the trigger?
Gerry Dulac

OLine
Jay
11:21
morning Gerry.  Any major target OL or DL in Free agency?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
Not specifically, but a guy like Tampa Bay C Ryan Jensen makes a lot of sense to me

HI Gerry!
I really like Jordon Davis from Georgia at #20. What is your opinion?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
Who wouldn't? However, Davis is a perfect Ravens type of player -- massive who can plug the middle -- and they have the 14th pick. I'd be shocked if he got past the Ravens

11:25
Are any of the QBs in this draft capable of overcoming a poor line? If not, does it make any sense to use a first-round pick on one?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Only a true elite QB can overcome a poor line. And there aren't any of them in the draft.

I would LOVE to see JuJu back.  How much of a chance do you see in that based on Kevins comments on JuJu?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
I think there is a good chance. And there should be. But a lot will depend on JuJu

Gerry, heading to Doral area for a winter golf - any reco's on great local courses that are not part of the resort (eg. local gems).
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Dont spend much time in that area. You'd have to come a little north -- Emerald Dunes.

Bemused that ARII finally acknowledged attendance falling…and it has little to do with COVID.  As a media person, you probably don’t experience the lack of parking, issues with non-paper tickets, lack of vendors, long waits (I mean full quarters long if you do elect to get something to eat) and the usurious pricing…and now the team, on paper at least, will be hard pressed to challenge for foreseeable future.   Which begets the question…does he, or any owner, truly care about fans in the stands when the lucrative TV deals are what really feeds the coffers?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
Attendance -- ticket sales -- are not a huge deal. The seat licenses are. Sure, more fans means more concessions and parking, but that's tip money compared to what they make from the licenses and TV revenue. Hey, look around, even college football attendance is down. And for all the reasons you mentioned.
