OK kids, we'll start our chat in about 10-15 minutes, so get ready....

Hey Gerry. Big fan from Canada. I agree we need to add to both offense and defensive lines. But do you feel the Steelers feel oline is less of a need early with how they developed or still see it as a priority early in the draft?
Gerry Dulac
9:51
I agree. The defensive line, in terms of adding a No. 1 player, is more urgent because of the age and need. The offensive line still could use a big-time player, tho.

When William Jackson is released, will the Steelers need the 12 million dollars to sign/extend current players or will it be used to sign a free agent like offensive lineman Ben Powers??
Gerry Dulac
9:53
I don't see the Steelers using free agency to add offensive linemen. They did that last year with Daniels and Cole and do not intend to do that again. If they address O-line, it will be with a high draft choice.

The Steelers are in a good spot with the depth in this draft at oline, Dline and CB to get one of each with there first three picks. But the team always seems to have a surprise pick early. If they do go off book in the early rounds what position do you think that may be?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
I think it should be defense-defense-defense with the top 49 picks, but, if they would go off book and not address one of the three positions you mention, I would say it would be a skill position, which means WR. I say that because I have learned they never turn their back on a skill player if a good one with a high grade is still on the board. And I don't blame them. That being said, I wouldn't expect that to happen any earlier than No. 49, if it even does at all.

Gerry: curious as to your thoughts on Daniel Jones's contract with the Giants and how the Ravens are playing the Lamar situation.  Do you think someone will give up two #1s for Lamar?  Will the Ravens then use those picks to move up for Richardson and restart their clock with a cheaper QB?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
It is clear the Ravens are not about to mortgage their future over a quarterback, even Lamar, just because other teams were stupid enough to do so. The Steelers would do the exact same thing. And drafting Richardson would make tons of sense for the Ravens. As for Jones, I'm surprised he got a contract worth an average of $40 million a year. But I do like him as a QB and we saw how much he improved in a system with Brian Dabol.

Any chance Steelers pick up PJ Mustipher with a 4th round or later pick ?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Always a chance

Which free agents of our own get brought back?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
Ogunjobi, Sutton, Spillane, Gentry, Pierre, maybe Edmunds

Every team on the division has added an additional offensive assistant/analyst to their offensive staff. Why are the Steelers so stubborn when it comes to adding another set of eyes/ideas to their own, especially as bad as the offensive #'s have been?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Especially because they have hired senior defensive assistants each of the past couple years (Austin, Flores). And especially because offense desperately needs one to help Canada
JB
10:02
Do you think the Steelers restructure and extend Mitch and Jack? They seem to want them back but their current cap number seems high.
Gerry Dulac
10:04
That would require the Steelers signing each to new contracts because they don't have additional years beyond 2023 to defer money for a salary cap hit. And that would require each agreeing to a new deal, which might not be easy if it's for less money.

10:04
With the rising cost of QBs, will the future NFL model become using a capable, less expensive QB with an overpowering defense ?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
I doubt it. It's still going to come down to needing a quarterback, the most important position in sports, to win a title.

How do you consider Coach Tomlin's relationship with the media, especially locally? I am a fan of Tomlin but often find his press conference answers to be short and condescending. Do you feel the local media feels disrespected by him?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Dismissive might be a better word. I think there is a noticeable difference in the answers he gives to the local media as opposed to the ones he freely offers to the national media.

10:06
Hi Gerry, what position do you expect the Steelers to target in free agency before the draft?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Not certain, but somewhere on defense. Seeing if there is someone better than what they have in the secondary or at inside LB, or even finding a backup OLB or TE. Maybe a third QB, too.

It is said that Mike Tomlin likes "bloodlines" meaning players that are genetically predisposed to have NFL level talent like Devin Bush.  Doesn't the combine itself negate the need to think this way by showing who has the raw natural physical talent regardless of who his father is?  It is not like you are picking a 7th grade team and trying to project to high school.
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I don't think Mike Tomlin values bloodlines as much as he appreciates them, understands that some players have a better feel and understanding of the game because they have been around it their entire lives. But it's not a quality he seeks in a player

Why does the NFL mandate a minimum of 4 inductees to the HOF? Joe Klecko and Zach Thomas should be in the Hall of Pretty Good. Coryell never won a championship.
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Bingo. Hold your cards!

10:11
Hi Gerry-  what should the Steelers do to address the ILB position?  What will they do?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
That remains to be seen. A lot has to do with if they think Mark Robinson is ready to play. That's why Spillane will be re-signed.
JB
10:12
Any players in this draft you see the Steelers going after? Porter Jr. seems logical, Schmidt the Center and I hear Deonta Banks a lot, thouughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I really like Schmitz at No. 32 cause I don't think he will be around at 49. He might be the most ready-to-play right away O-linemen in the draft. I'm sure Banks and Porter will be highly considered, as will Christian Gonzalez. But all three could be gone when the Steelers pick at 17.

Gerry-  Pleeezz put the conspiracy theorists about Lamar’s situation in their place. Maybe he hasn’t hired an agent because he doesn’t want to hear the truth about his value and limitations?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I doubt that's the reason. Maybe he doesn't want to pay them the 10 percent commission.
Mike P.
10:15
Would you rather have the fourth- or fifth-best left tackle in this draft, or the best RT and flip Chuks back to LT?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
At that point, I'd rather have the best center.
Yates
10:15
Hi Gerry-  in your opinion is there already a viable WR3  on the roster that can contribute at the level needed for the position ?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I think they are hoping Calvin Austin can be and will be that guy. That makes Steven Sims and even better No. 4 guy, if they can re-sign him in free agency.
Patrick
10:17
A lot of fans want the Steelers to sign players released by other teams, but aren't the Steelers better off going through the draft and adding capable back-ups in free agency.
Gerry Dulac
10:18
I think that's what you will see them do, with the possible exception of an ILB or a secondary member. Most of their attention will be focused on re-signing their own free agents and then going from there.
