I haven't seen enough of Dowdle or know what McCarthy's offense is going to look like right now

How do Steelers attract a free agent receiver if receivers don’t know who their quarterback is? Thank you
Gerry Dulac
11:17
Well, they've been pretty good at it so far by getting Metcalf and Pittman
Matt

Hello Gerry!  After trades and FA signings, are we in a possible position to draft something other than WR in the first round if we can’t get one of the top 4?  I love the thought of a difference maker in the middle of our D (Dillon Thieneman or Sonny Styles)… someone with speed.
Gerry Dulac
11:19
That's a very real possibility. But the Steelers need to keep upgrading their offense with skill players so they are not going to ignore the possibilities

Hi Gerry. Is Cory Trice Jr. done with the Steelers? Or does he get one more catch to prove he can stay healthy and contribute?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Poor guy. They like him but he keeps getting hurt so it's hard to think they will keep giving him chances

Hi Gerry. What's the Plan B for QB if AR doesn't come back?

Do you think the Steelers will trade up in the first for a WR, S, DL, or OL?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Maybe not for a WR because there are a lot of them. And definitely not for an OL. I think YA Black has eased the concern about a No. 1 DL. But maybe if there is a safety they REALLY like.....

Please no Kirk Cousins to the Steelers!

I think you can relax

Gerry: Profootball Focus, the local media, and the AP All Pro voters obviously think Cam Heyward is a great player.  Cam had only 3.5 sacks and anchored one of the worst run defenses in the league.  He did bat down several passes.  It is claimed that he is double teamed often, but I rarely see that.  He is called a leader, but of a defense that has "communication issues".  This was a year where we saw interior defensive lineman for the Texans, Patriots, Broncos, and Seahawks dominate playoff opponents, but Cam was considered a top 4 interior lineman.  Obviously there are nuances to defensive line play that are not obvious to fans, what are they in Heyward's case that lead to his reputation?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
I doubt all those people are wrong about Heyward. His reputation is more than justified

Gerry, if these trades aren’t official until the league season starts and a team wants to do a physical, then why all the moaning RE Max Crosby? That said…maybe the Ravens ARE being sneaky.
Gerry Dulac
11:24
And maybe the Ravens did their due dilligence
John from Toronto
11:24
Hi Gerry. Are the Steelers comfortable with Dylan Cook as the starting LT if Jones is unable to recover from his neck injury? Or do you see them drafting an LT on Day 2 or 3 of the draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
I think it's more likely they draft a guard before a tackle
Matt
11:25
Hi Gerry.  What are your thoughts on the job Omar Khan has done in the last 3 years?  I personally feel he has done a great job.  He has made the draft and free agency (especially) more exciting for Steelers fans.  I always felt disappointed with free agent signings under Colbert.
Gerry Dulac
11:26
He has definitely made it more exciting and interesting. They have been more active in the past three years than they have ever been before. The flip side of that, of course, is maybe they've had to be more aggressive to get better

There was a lot of discussion about new coaches coming in for McCarthy’s staff. Not much was said about QB coach Tom Arth who was a holdover from Tomlin's staff. If Rodgers is the QB, that role may not be as critical.  But, it would seem critical for the development of a young QB such as Howard or a draftee as the future franchise QB. Since you’re close to the team, what do you know about him and his skills in working with young QBs?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
That's why McCarthy retained him -- because he likes what he does a lot.

What is the difference between Gainwell and Dowdle for the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
Different style of running, for one. Dowdle has been a starter, Gainwell hasn't. Dowdle has back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Gainwell doesn't have any. Gainwell is a better receiver, though.

It seems as though we have taken care of WR2, CB2, and RB2... As the roster currently sits where do we go in the first round? I'd pull the trigger on Vega from Penn State if he falls else it's BPA avoiding Edge, CB, RB and TE
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Maybe they would. But don't discount WR and safety. And you never know about DL, but I don't think that has the same priority as last year
Realist
11:31
Please also no Drew Allar!
Gerry Dulac
11:31
What he said.

11:31
This is supposed to be a good draft for ILBs.  Do you expect the Steelers to take one?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Not in the first round.

While the FA signings thus far do not seem to be quite as far on the backside of their careers as last year’s contingent, am I wrong in thinking that none of them meet the standard, or even come close to the standard of a Farrior signing, who was 27 and just finished a massive breakthrough year with the Jets?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
You can't start comparing all FA signings to Farrior, who is among the team's best-ever signing, if not the best. But at least they did focus on signings guys 29 and under, unlike last year.

Good morning! Thank you for the chats! Are there any possibilities of Kyler Murray signing with the Steelers or is it Aaron Rodgers? Or do they think Will Howard is the answer?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
I don't think there is any possibility of signing Kyler Murray, and I would hope not.

Rumors are that Patrick queen is wanted by several teams in a possible trade. Should the Steelers bite on some of these offers? I know they signed Cole♈️🍀 Holcomb. Was that the reason he was signed because queen might be traded?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
No. They signed Holcomb to be what he was  last year -- a more than dependable backup who can start if needed. And I don't think they should bite on any of those offers. I don't quite get the fans' discontent with Queen. It is not shared by the Steelers. Plus, teams get offers all the time. The Steelers got them last year about TJ Watt.

Hi Gerry. So, you have a big arm QB like Nussmeier who has a really good year (proving he can do it) followed by a mediocre year (in need of some professional coaching to get him back on track), and his draft stock understandably drops. You have a guy like Will Howard who was average his whole college career until the last few games. Will seems like a great guy and by all reports is doing the right things to be ready, worth a mid-round draft pick. Do you think a QB whisperer like McCarthy will a guy with the potential of Nussmeier, perhaps with one of the 3rd rd picks, to compete against Howard and Rudolph?
Gerry Dulac
11:37
Absolutely it's possible, especially on the third round, which, I've been told, is the earliest the Steelers will consider a QB (as of right now)
Sunner in Orlando from Lebo

Was it a money issue with Gainwell leaving the Steelers or was there some other reason? Two years for 14 million was not a bad deal for the Steelers MVP last year. If they were concerned about Warren being upset, I thought they just could’ve tossed him another two mil to have them both at two years and $14 million. Or did they decide that was too much money for two running backs to make so they moved on to Rico.
