Yeah it was about money -- his desire to get more money in FA than the Steelers were going to pay him. Same with Seumalo. You saw what a ridiculous deal Justin Fields got last year. Why wouldn't you test the desperate nature -- and the wallets -- of NFL GMs??
Bob

Do you have any contacts with the ravens sportswriters? Curious that they cancelled the Crosby trade and wonder why? I thought it was a stupid trade for them giving up so much for an aging player.
Gerry Dulac
11:39
I do and I thought it was a stupid deal on their part, too. Two No. 1s?? Ridiculous. I felt sorry for their new head coach -- all those FA departures and losing your next two No. 1 picks.

With them bringing in Pittman do you think that takes WR out of 1st Rd for them?

Not at all

Do you believe the ravens won the day by getting out of the Crosby contract and then  picking up Hendrickson as a free agent? I think they did and they get to keep two first round pics and they have a similar player without giving up the draft capital.
Gerry Dulac
11:40
You are absolutely correct

Gerry, good news that Broderick Jones may be ready for training camp. Have the Steelers provided an updated status on his recovery?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
No they haven't and I'm not expecting one anytime soon. We'll find out in July

Hello Gerry! I was sorry to see the Crosby deal fall through. I liked the idea of the ravens going all in when the Steelers didn’t have a realistic window over the next 1-2 years and paying the price in future years by not having picks. Do you have any sense that the Ravens missed out on key free agents (besides losing their center) as a result of killing the deal? Thanks -
Gerry Dulac
11:42
I don't, but if the Steelers were headed for a grade of A in free agency, the Ravens were spiraling toward an F-minus (is there such a thing?)

In the banter pro-and-con of Rodgers returning, isn't it being lost how many professional intangibles he brings to the players around him?  There were regular pieces during camp and the season about how beneficial he was to his teammates, coaching them up on their games and techniques, how to see what he sees on the field, demanding them to execute the details of their assignment well, etc.  If the plan is to have a team ready-built for a franchise quarterback to drop into, aren't those Rodgers traits worth something significant?
Gerry Dulac
11:43
I don't think they are lost at all. Everyone knows it -- the coaches, the players, the fans. That's his biggest intangible.

Hey Gerry, I like what the Steelers did in free agency and think it put them in a position to draft the best play maker at wr, cb, s, or dline who is going to win games by touching the ball in key moments. Watt doesn’t do that in the same way anymore, and I think that is the fan frustration with Queen - he is paid to do that but doesn’t make a difference regularly. What are your thoughts and what position would you trade a third for to move up a few spots to take? Thanks -
Gerry Dulac
11:44
Probably safety, unless there is a receiver they REALLY like. I don't think they would take a guard on the first round, certainly not one they would trade up to get

Hi Gerry. Are the Steelers in draft mode right now and will look to backfill with free agents afterwards? I’d still like to see them sign a guard and maybe DL.
Gerry Dulac
11:45
They're in FA mode right now, but the draft prep is ongoing

do you think part of the reason they didn’t resign Gainwell is because Warren is such a similar player? Dowdle is a more physical between the tackles runner and may be an even better complement. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:46
No, I think they didn't re-sign Gainwell is because they knew he would leave in free agency (his choice) for a good payday. And he got it. Good for him.

11:46
Hi Gerry. Is there a time signing a free agent doesn’t count for or against the compensatory formula?
Gerry Dulac
11:47
I'll be honest, some of those formula rules are so intricate and goofy I'm not going to pretend to know them all.

Kyler Murray, to me, is worth taking a flier on than waiting for Rodgers. Let’s not act like he’s been a bum his whole career. All of the talent is there and he’s had good seasons. I can see him reviving his career like Baker or Darnold. And at the vet minimum it’s virtually no risk. What are your thoughts on going after Murray? Is he on their radar?
Gerry Dulac
11:47
I hate to tell you, I stopped after the first sentence. And I think the Steelers would've too.
Say no to Drew
11:47
Gerry, please tell me we aren’t serious about using a premium pick on Drew Allar, watch him in big games, better have paramedics on standby for when he chokes.  Rather take my chances with Will Howard. Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:48
They are not. And you are right
JSF YINZER
11:48
I'll preface this question with i am not a P Queen fan why not give him to the Cowboys for a fourth and move on from the big salary and all the missed takles. Never liked d players who don't use their arm to wrap up.
Gerry Dulac
11:49
Then you must not like 80 percent of the players in the NFL.
11:50
JR11:49Gerry: can’t wait for the draft. All of the speculation about potential picks is so much noise. Your work is the best!
Yeah, it does get to be a bit much.

11:50
Ty Simpson a possibility now ??
Gerry Dulac
11:51
Maybe....if he is there in the third round. Or if they think he has a bigger upside than Will Howard. But not before then.

GM Gerry! Thanks for all the work you so! Your honesty! Your sarcasm😁 Do you do any media appearance with Florio of NFL? Any Dline signing coming up? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:53
You know, I tend to appear on Rich Eisen and Dan Patrick, not Mike. I think they just signed their veteran DT in free agency -- Cam Heyward

11:53
Any surprises for you so far in Steeler's free agency signings? I thought we would have seen a guard signed by now.
Gerry Dulac
11:53
Me too. I was told at the combine that was the plan if Seumalo left. But they are content for now with Spencer Anderson filling that role.

11:53
Hi Gerry! Thanks for the chats! With all the DB signings, do you anticipate a DB being drafted high, or do they plan to use veteran players all over the back end?
Gerry Dulac
11:54
I can see a free safety being drafted. They need someone with speed back there
Steelman
11:54
I love Dowdle but not much more for Gainwell who i thoght is a more dynamic player and team MVP, why not keep him?  Also, Pierre was playing lights out, is $8.5M too much of a risk for his play?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:55
That's the nature of the business. Teams can't keep everyone, and guys like Gainwell and Pierre played themselves into nice free-agent deals. That's the way it works.

Gerry - has a DL player being drafted in the first round seem more and more likely, or will they still target one of the top WRs?
