OK kids, we'll start our chat in just a few minutes so get ready....

If bad luck was equal to HOF votes Mason Rudolph would be first ballot.
Gerry Dulac
10:00
Haha...yes he would. I feel bad for Mason. Been jerked around twice now.

There have been concerns about the attitude and effort of both Johnson and Pickens. Was the trade of Johnson intended, at least in part, to keep him from serving as a negative role model for the younger receiver?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Bingo. That was a large part of it, though it's seems comical to think someone is about Pickens being badly influenced. One way or the other, they were going to move on from DJ

Your view of the Dionte Trade....Addition by subtraction or leaves us thin at WR?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
No doubt, it leaves them very thin. Say what you want, he was their best receiver at getting open and was more than productive. But he was not and never will be a No. 1 receiver. His departure means the Steelers need two more WRs, and one will definitely come in the draft -- for sure by Day 2 and possibly in round 1

Sorry didn't finish on Mason. He was Drafted by team who was attempting to plan for future after aging QB threatened he would retire only to have that QB treat him like crap. 2nd season 2nd pass bounces off sydney moncriefs hands for INT. Gets head almost taken off by helmet and then is accused of racial stuff. Looses job to undrafted FA. Plays good again and win back job to have what was said to be life threatening injury in NY. Is free of aging QB only to have another QB brought in as replacement and draft one #1. Plays well in preseason only to be 3rd string QB. Continue to be 3rd string QB next year after no one wanted in FA. Finally gets chance to play after first 2 QBs get hurt and saves coaches precious record of never having losing season. Gets replaced again before FA even really starts. Do you have any knowledge if Coach T was not in favor of drafting MR in first place? Hope he ends up in Denver or Minn where he has real chance.

Too long. I liked your first message -- short and to the point. And funny

Donte Jackson trade.... a shutdown corner, solid player who may help, or at least we got rid of Dionte?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Solid player. Hey, losing DJ doesn't help. It's not like they have someone behind him waiting to bust out. Can't say that yet about Austin, even though I like him

Good morning, Mr. Dulac, Refreshing!?, Refreshing you say? For lifetime Steelers fans this is a collective out of body experience. What’s next? An All-Pro DL? Center? Both? I don’t think there is any question anymore, there is a new Sherriff in town. New roles, new schemes. Maybe even new hope. Sir, did you ever expect to see an off season like this in your career following the Steelers? And it doesn’t seem like they are even done yet.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Did I say refreshing? I think I said refreshing. In case people are wondering, he's talking about the GM

Hi Gerry, what are your overall thoughts on both the players released/traded to date & the FA signings.
Gerry Dulac
10:08
I think what they have done, both with players cuts and players acquired, is beyond exemplary. Now, I haven't looked ahead and gone through all the questions in the chat, but I can't imagine anyone complaining about what they have. And I know I'm really assuming a lot by saying that.

Gerry - Please don't tell me this offseason is shaping up for Dan Moore to still be the LT and having Jones play out of position again.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
OK, I won't. But the draft will speak to that, not free agency.
Asman

Seeing that in the end NFL is entertainment, I'm of the belief that I would rather cheer for a team losing with an older Hines Ward or Polamalu than a winning team with Dionte Johnson. Not a boomer here but just tired of diva and prima donas! Am I in the minority or do fans  prefer to like or respect players for actual effort or past accomplishments or is winning all that matters?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I don't know if you're in the minority, but I think a lot of people would agree with you. Unfortunately, that's part of today's NFL athlete

Good morning, Gerry!  Thanks for the chat.  Diontae for Donte.  What are your thoughts on the trade?  Do you anticipate the team seeking a WR before the draft?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Probably one, though there aren't many quality FA WRs that interest them. As for your Diontae for Donte, I'm surprised nobody has coined the new QB situation "Wilson Pickett" after the soul singer

Gerry, where does Mason sign?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Not sure. I hope he gets a deal somewhere, tho
Dionte_Who?
10:13
Hi Gerry - I’m puzzled by the DJ trade, but understand it if we received a solid starting CB in exchange. Well, in your opinion, did we?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Jackson has been a quality CB, but he was injured in 2022 and his production in 2023 wasn't what it was before the injury. But he has been a fulltime starter basically from the time he entered the league in 2018
Scooter
10:15
How soon do you think the Steelers are going to sign Tyler Boyd? Seems a no brainer at this point.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Don't hold your breath

Will Kenny get a fair shot at being the starter next year?  Or has the organization effectively moved on from him with the Russell Wilson signing?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
No, I don't think they've moved on from him. But I also know they didn't bring in Wilson to lead the band at halftime. I believe they will say they are going to camp with KP as the starter, but there will definitely be a competition at the position.

Hey Gerry, what’s next on FA market?  A wide receiver?  Safety? Both? — Rich from San Diego, born abd raised in Pgh.
Gerry Dulac
10:18
Rich, safety wouldn't surprise me.

Gerry:  Patriots fans suffered through a dreadful 4-13 season while the Steelers made the playoffs.  Yet the Pats entered free agency with around $70 million more of cap space.  They also have the 3rd pick in a draft with three blue chip QBs while the Steelers presumed starting QB will turn 36 and is on a one year deal.  Which of these two franchises is more likely to get a to a 7th Super Bowl Championship first?

What is your gut feeling on the signing of Wilson?  Was he as disruptive in Denver as we have read, and a poor teammate?  How do you think he will fit in with the "Steeler way"?  Do you think he will be a mentor to Pickett?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
If I know Pickett, I don't think he will be looking for any mentors. And I don't know enough about Wilson and the stories about him being a disruptive teammate. But I don't anticipate that being a problem here. What I can tell you is that he and Patrick Queen both wanted to come here because of Mike Tomlin. That should be enough to quiet that stuff

If a player, say Holcomb, sustains a career ending injury, what can team do for salary cap purposes, to pay him the remainder of his contract while also getting salary cap relief?
Gerry Dulac
10:21
Either way, they are on the hook for his signing bonus. All they will save is whatever he was owed in salary or roster bonus.

How will the Steelers replace Diontae Johnson? Does Ridley or Boyd make sense? Trading for Sutton? Waiting until the draft?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Both -- FA and the draft. No trades

How significant, if at all, are the Steelers two trades with the Rams and Panthers that swapped day 3 draft picks to allow the Steelers to pick one round earlier?
