Not often I say this twice, but.....Pay the man!

Hi Gerry - yes Russ collapsed down the stretch, but for 6-7 weeks the offense was legit with him at the helm for the first time in years. With DK added, Pickens, Freiermuth, two first-round tackles, budding star at center...really not worth one more go as we search for the next franchise QB? I think Rodgers is just too old now, happens to everyone

Gerry, old time players used to say Chuck Noll had a phrase something like "if you are thinking of retiring, you are retired".  Shouldn't Rodgers hesitancy w/ signing on in Pittsburgh, either because he can't decide between teams or he is considering retirement, a huge flashing red warning signal?

Do you think the Steelers QB1 spot is filled today? Also if it’s not Rodgers is it 100% Russ or could there possibly be other options?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
Yes it is. That's the answer to Chuck Noll question.
Here's the answer to question about QB decision today.....There aren't better options

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.  The Steelers could have had Nagee for 6.7 mil 5th year option—seemed like a bargain just for his durability 260 plus carries every year.  They give Warren 5.3 mil who does 120-130 carries a year and then sign another backup in Gainwell (salary not yet disclosed).  Does that make any sense at all?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
Yes it does because Najee would have cost $9.25 million. And maybe they just like Warren better. Plus, I like Gainwell

Gerry: I can see the possibility of a more wide-open offense with Metcalf and Pickens as WR's, with one on each side of the field. But based on Pickens history, that he's in the last year of his contract, and the "WR money" dedicated to Metcalf, would it be better to trade him, hopefully for a 2nd (probably only get a 3rd?), to replace the 2nd sent to SEA, and use that recovered 2nd to draft for our needs at DB/CB/RB or maybe even a WR? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
10:50
That's a very real possibility Michigan. But they also need a QB to throw them the ball

Why in the world would the Steelers commit a big part of their salary cap to almost washed up QBs (Wilson or Rodgers) when it was proved last year that one of them did not make a difference in winning a playoff game?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Let's be honest, there weren't a lot of good options out there. And probably their best one wanted to test the market because he thought he might get a better offer than what the Steelers would offer (and understandably so). And he was right. Doesn't mean the Jets were right

So tomlin hasn't won a playoff and still doesn't have a qb in place after several years, post-Ben. isn't that enough reason to get rid of him?

Gerry, do you think the Steelers besides DK and the QB possible contract are not spending in other big names FAs because they are saving the money for TJ Watt extension?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
No

Didn't steelers fans used to make fun of Marv Lewis's post-season record? How is Tomlin any different?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
Tomlin won a Super Bowl and has been to two.

Back in the day, the Steelers were successful by keeping other teams off balance with creative schemes & play calling - Lebeau, Whisenhut, etc.  Other teams are now doing that while we’ve retreated to Plain Vanilla - why?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
I think you answered your own question

Good Morning Gerry.   What happens if both Rodgers signs with the Giants or decides to retire?  That leaves Wilson as the most coveted one standing?  Mr Rooney said at the end of the year that ideally one of the two QBs on the sister would be back.  One is remaining?  Why not sign him before he gets fed up with how things playing out and signed somewhere else?
Gerry Dulac
10:55
That's kind of where they are. But I don't know how much interest there is with a team signing Wilson. It's not at a fever pitch

Hey Gerry - Do you think we will see Mike Tomlin take some responsibility for the QB mess the Steelers are in now?  When questioned about pulling Fields and starting Wilson, when Wilson was playing well, his comment was he is highly compensated. Wilson bombs down the stretch, but the highly compensated coach wouldn’t try putting Fields in to give us a chance to win. Don’t blame Fields for wanting to go elsewhere.
Gerry Dulac
10:56
You kidding? He gets blamed for the snowy winter,  the rainy spring and the Pirates batting order. Of course he will get hammered

Gerry, did Rodgers meet in-person with the Steelers or over video conference?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
No

Gerry, love the chats. Do you think there is any volition by the Steelers to punt this year and focus on a QB heavy class in 2026?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
I think there is good volition.

10:57
Hi Gerry, given the DK trade and how FA has gone, is it now an absolute 100% chance the first rounder is DL?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
There better be

Are the Steelers kicking themselves they didn’t just offer Fields 10M more? Now they may have to sign an old QB for 30M plus per year.
Gerry Dulac
10:58
$10 million more than what..?? In retrospect, that would have been easier
Matt Harkins
10:58
Gerry, do you think the Steelers have any confidence on current DL rostered players not named Cam Heyward and was Benton playing out of position last year?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
Other than the two you mentioned, not really
Mike
10:59
Any insight on why they chose to sign the LB from Baltimore at a higher amount than resign Roberts?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Because he is listed as an OLB and they need a 4th guy there

Fair question. In your opinion, best guess - OC Artie calls 80% of offense? DC TA 40% of defense? MT on the hook for the rest?

It's fair based on what...??

Safe to say the upper brass did not see FA to go the way it is going?
