Based on free agency it looks like KC plugged some of the holes.  I assume we will draft a WR at some point although a veteran would be nice.  Thoughts on Levi Wallace?  I still feel the secondary and ILB position are a weakness.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Granted, they are not positions of strength and we will see what they do with Joe Schobert. At the very least, he is going to get a significant pay cut, if he's not released. The Steelers do a good job in free agency with the way they address positions of need and lessen the need to address those positions in the draft.

Do you think the Steeler QB coach can be a 'Quarterback whisperer' and bring out the number 2 overall pick talent in Trubisky, making him the next 'era' QB in Steeler history?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I will say this, Mike Sullivan (their QB coach, not the Penguins coach) is more involved in that offense than people think. But I don't think you should start thinking about new "era" in Steelers history

Hi Gerry. Beginning to think that with these new signings on the Offense, the addition of a topflight WR in tne first  or second rounds would be the icing on the cake for a totally unrexognizable (in a good way) offense! Can address the Defense with the other picks (I see a 4th rounder was also granted). Good move to to go for a top flight wr, if he falls to 20? (look at what Chase did for Cincy)?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I don't think you will see a WR on the first round but certainly by the second day of the draft, especially if JuJu isn't brought back. They need to restock their defensive line, something they've ignored for seven years. Age is settling in, not to mention young quality depth.

Did Chuks have a good year last year?  I thought he was pretty underwhelming.  Isn’t $29M over paying for an average player?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I have no problem with Chuks.

Have the Steelers ever considered bringing in Bubby Brister or Cliff Stoudt or somebody like that to mentor the current quarterbacks who are of similar talent?

Never

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . I have two questions . Do you think that Trubisky contract indicates that it it is open competition with Rudolph or is Trubisky scheduled to be a starter ?  Second question is that CB Wallace that the Steelers signed , is considered a starter or back up at this point and does that closes the door on Witherspoon ? Thank you very much .
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Well, I think it gives Trubisky a very good chance to be the starter and I would even venture to say it gives him the edge right now in the competition. It remains to be seen where Wallace fits in. A lot has to do with what happens with Joe Haden.

Hi Gerry, It appears as though OL issues are being addressed via free agency and, perhaps, a DL will be drafted early. Your assertions regarding the line of scrimmage seem to be shared by Steeler brass.  If it's a DL, who do you think they will take in Round 1?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Hard to say. Safe guess: Someone from Georgia

What’s the real story with Tuitt?

If Tribisky has two good season with the Steelers, could you see them signing him long term or is he just a bridge qb and it doesn’t matter how he plays?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I could see them extending him if he has ONE really good season.

What is the significance of the tendered offers to Spillane and Allen? And if both Feiler and Hilton were FAs, why weren't the Steelers given compensatory picks for them as well?  Thanx
Gerry Dulac
11:17
The significance is they didn't want to lose them. And I'm not sure why the Steelers received only one comp pick after losing four starters -- Dupree, Hilton, Feiler and Conner -- in free agency and acquiring just one starter, Trai Turner.

Trubiski is not the anointed starter.  He has to learn the system, and complete with the other two quarterbacks.  This should hypothetically have the cream rise to the top or am I wrong and Trubiski is the man?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
That learning the system stuff is overrated. He will be fine

Gerry, Mitch is here, does Mason stay?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
Yes.

Gerry, Do you think that if the Steelers pick up of Myles Jack in free agency considering his age of only 27 and possible trade for Fletcher Cox would give the Steelers the most feared defense in the AFC?  Love the recent free agent pick ups!!
Gerry Dulac
11:19
They are not trading for Cox. They don't need any more old guys up front. They need an infusion of young studs on the defensive line. Myles jack would look nice, but he won't come cheap.
Johnny Sack
11:20
Mitch is better than what the Steelers have on the roster but how can he become?  At least steelers knew they couldn’t start the season with Rudolph.  When he couldn’t win the Detroit game that’s when he was done in Pittsburgh.
Gerry Dulac
11:20
That's not true at all. The Detroit game had nothing to do with it. How come you and everyone else doesn't remember how he played in  Cleveland in the 2020 season finale against a team that desperately needed a win to make the postseason???
Tom M.
11:21
Many have said none of the QBs are 1st round worthy. I’ve been concerned that the Steelers might reach for one in spite of other needs. Also concerned they might reach for Pickett if he is available at 20 since they’re still getting slammed for passing on Marino 40 years ago.  Now that Trubisky is onboard, can I move on to something else to be concerned about?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
They will not reach for a quarterback, trust me.

Do you think Canada will have any success with Trubisky or will he have  another failed coaching year?  Will he run out of plays to call in the red zone?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
We can talk about QBs all we want. The biggest question facing the Steelers is -- can or will the offense look any better than it did last year under Canada?? It certainly can't be any worse. Here's one more question to ponder -- Do the players buy into his system? I can tell you the answer
Johnny Sack
11:23
Any chance Steelers pickup Baker Mayfield if he gets cut?   They seem to like cheap QB projects.
Gerry Dulac
11:23
None

11:23
I am absolutely excited about all the moves we made. With the interest in Haden and and Whitherspoon seemingly not as great as it seemed like it would any chance we being one or both back despite signing of Wallace?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
If Haden can be re-signed, don't think Witherspoon will be brought back.
Dan
11:24
I don't understand why the Steelers didn't just keep Roethlisberger as the "bridge" quarterback, especially since he's still under contract so to speak.  How is the current situation better?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
Well, he's not under contract and the Steelers didn't want him back. It was more about them and less about Ben deciding to retire.
Where’s My Clark Bar?
11:25
I like the direction of free agency so far. Still worried about the ILB position. Do you think an upgrade is coming?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Not sure about an upgrade. But a change? Possibly
