Why not just go with Mason as the starter?  Rodgers is a cancer and if Mason tanks they’ll get a top 5 pick.  We’ve all seen Russ and Sean Peyton was right Russ is washed.  Shouldn’t have gone cheap on Fields.
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Nobody went cheap on Fields. Just because the Jets, arguably the most dysfunctional franchise in the league, paid him $40 million over two years doesn't mean he is worth that. You think the Steelers would pay that to a guy who started six games?? If they did, everybody would be screaming they overpaid when they could have used that money on someone else.

Hi Gerry. Do you believe the Steelers were surprised by Justin’s decision and quickly had to pivot? Or aren’t they receiving enough credit for having contingency plans in place?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
They weren't surprised at all. They might have been surprised at the Jets giving him that type of contract, but, like I said, it's the Jets.

Ryan Watts was drafted round 7 last year and sustained a season ending injury last pre-season... does he get the Calvin Austin, and Cory Trice treatment in terms of amount of snaps?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Austin was a fourth-round pick so not the same comparison

Hey Gerry - it really seems like the Steelers soured on Russ at some point between their last win and current day. It wasn’t like he dramatically fell off a cliff in the Raven playoff game… how come they didn’t put in any packages for Fields (when healthy) or even go to him at the end? It seems especially strange since he was their first choice for next year. Thanks -
Gerry Dulac
11:11
The whole situation surrounding their quarterbacks was a little strange

11:11
How serious is the Milroe interest. Round 3 or higher?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Well, I don't think it's higher, especially because they don't have a second round pick

Which QB option is Bill from LA's preference for the 2025 season?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Trade for Pickett
Mark
11:12
Pickens trade. When does it happen?

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.  I don’t really get all the Wilson hate.  His last game-the Ravens playoff- he was 20-29-270 yds. 2-TD 0-int; QBR 121.  It wasn’t all his fault it was 21-0 at the half, Jackson picked them apart and Henry ran like a hot knife through butter. They outrushed the Steelers 299 to 29 yards.  Blaming it on Wilson instead of the crappy Steeler O line and Defensive play is transference.  He vastly outplayed Rodgers last October 20th as well.  Don’t you think they should sign him for 1-2 years and draft another QB?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
I thought that was the safest choice, all along, especially knowing it was going to be time to draft a QB. But there's that head-butting with Arthur Smith about the way the offense is supposed to be run and .....

Hello . Thank you for the chat . Do you think we are heading towards drafting Jalen Milroe ? I hope that Tomlin love for running QB do not make them draft Jalen who is very inaccurate and failed to progress in senior year . Thank you
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I can't say that's the case. But they are very impressed with his intelligence and way he handles himself

GM Gerry! In your opinion, what are the chances the Steelers will also drop out of the ARod drama and roll with Mason (which seems to be the fans preference for this year)?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
I can't put a percentage on it, but there is a chance, yes. If that's the case, they will still have to sign a veteran QB as the backup, even if they draft a QB

Any trades out there possible? To recoup a 2nd or possibly a player?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Anything is possible

The Ravens have mastered managing free agency and maximizing compensatory picks (4 this year). Ray mentioned that signing Thornhill and some others won’t affect the Steelers getting compensatory picks. Does this mean they’ve finally caught on? Do you know if any of the other guys they signed would affect them getting picks?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
Same with Slay. And even Rodgers, if he signs

Steelers lost 4 games to arguably the 3 best teams in the NFL and their O-line was awful, so blaming Russ is unfounded.  So it must be Arthur Smith's dislike of him? Why? (because Russ changed plays during the 44-38 win vs Cincy?)  Your thoughts Gerry?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
Yes it is unfounded. But the incompatibility between OC and QB must be a factor

it seems like Omar should get some credit. His refusal to pay top dollar for leftovers at qb has now put the team in position to pay bargain rates for the same leftovers. The problem is that it’s about 2:30 in the afternoon, the lunch time buffet has ended, sunlight is streaming through the windows, and I don’t really want to eat the food that’s left in those chafing dishes…
Gerry Dulac
11:18
Omar should get a lot of credit. He is not afraid to make moves.

Does the Steeler “brain trust” not realize how incompetent they appear thru this quarterback debacle? I honestly don’t know how they can show their faces around town, and regardless of who ends up taking snaps this will

I'll let them know

I realize they need depth, (heck they need starters!), but don’t understand the Ekuale AND Loudermilk signings. Make it make sense?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
I wish I could.

Seattle with similar QB room, RB room, and WR room to the Steelers finished 10-7 last year. Is the Steelers ceiling still 10-7 with DK Metcalf, if they do not secure a DT that has all-pro potential?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Probably

Where does Thornhill fit in? Replacing Kazee role in 2025 and or look to see if he is possible starter in 2026 if resigned?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Yes, backup who replaces Kazee. They liked Thornhill when he was coming out in the draft

Hi Gerry:  Thanks again for the chats.  I wanted to ask you this question from the past—how did the Steelers miss so badly on Kevin Dotson?  He is at the top of PFF grades for the whole league at his natural Right Guard position, but the Steelers played him on the left side?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Well, it happens. Not too many guys leave here and end up better somewhere else.

Gerry, I don’t get all thise who thought Field ms was a great option for us. Yeah, 4-2 as a Steelers starter and all that, but wasn’t that also against the weak part of last year’s schedule? What, concretely, in Fields’ play would have held the Steelers in better stead in the tough stretch run at the end, than what Wilson did?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
He wasn't a better option
