John from Toronto 11:42 Hi Gerry. Why not just roll with Mason as QB1 this season? Best case scenario he catches lightning in a bottle and the Steelers make the playoffs. Worst case, they finish with 5 or 6 wins and are positioned to draft a franchise QB in 2026. It's a binary outcome I think most fans can live with.
11:44
I seriously doubt most fans can live with five or six wins

Beside the QB decision, Is there any other position the Steelers will target in FA before the draft ?
Gerry Dulac
11:44
Any big moves, in terms of free agent signings, are done

Has Tomlin had the most free dinners with draft prospects of any coach in NFL history? Seems like it.
Gerry Dulac
11:47
First off, he's paying. But that's how he gets to know what some of these guys are like. And, because you asked, don't get the idea he had dinner solely with Jalen Milroe last night in Alabama. There were 3 of 4 Alabama players in the group. They do that all the time. Couple years ago, it seems like he took half the Georgia team out to dinner before their pro day. And he and Omar Khan will do the same when they go to Michigan, Ohio State, Texas....

i am really happy to have back Mason Rudolph. I would prefer riding the whole season with him than with Rodger and drafting Dart of the OSU qb
Gerry Dulac
11:48
I see Mel Kiper and Daniel Jeremiah have the Steelers taking Jaxson Dart at No. 21. I wouldn't ride with that too long.

I know it can be done, but how likely is it to win in the post season with an ultra conservative (predictable?) offense that doesn't let players play to their potential (use the whole field, audible)?  Or am I missing something?
Gerry Dulac
11:48
Not missing a thing

Would you trade Minka or TJ Watt in order to get draft capital before their value is significantly diminished? Sometimes teams stick with the older veterans and allow them to all grow old together and it bites them later on. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:49
Not until they fix that D-line

It seems like Rodgers is jerking the Steelers around. Why chase a guy who is playing games/ I say stick to Wiolson until they get a young QB next year.
Gerry Dulac
11:49
He's not deliberately "jerking" them around. That's just what he does, which, to me, is enough to say I'll see you later.

Morning Gerry and thanks for your time.  As QB stands now let's end the madness. Mason is QB 1, sign a vet backup, and draft someone in the late rounds and maybe you get lucky, I still think you're better off than the Rodgers drama.
Gerry Dulac
11:50
This guy is making a lot of sense. In fact, A LOT.

How washed is Minkah?  I think it’s time for him to get on with his life’s work as Chuck Noll used to say.
Gerry Dulac
11:50
No

Not sure there is much left in the Bargain Bin. Where do they spend the cap money if Aaron declines their offer?
Gerry Dulac
11:51
On another veteran backup. Or a trade

How did the Steelers mismanage the QB situation to such an extent?
Gerry Dulac
11:51
They should have just settled on one of the two they already had. And I don't say that in hindsight

Hi Gerry, Justin Fields 4-2 record last season was achieved by defensive wins against bad teams. Could Russell Wilson or Mason Rudolph have fared the same or even better?
Gerry Dulac
11:52
At least the same

Last year’s draft has a chance to be successful. Other than that they have not drafted well in 8-10 years or more How have they even had a winning record? Is the lack of success in the draft the main result in no playoff wins? What say you?
Gerry Dulac
11:53
I think you just gave Mike Tomlin a huge bouquet of approval, if you weren't aware of it

There are 32 practice squads, totaling about 512 players. I don’t see too much movement during the seaon. Are there really not any hidden gems? Or is there a gentleman’s agreement among GMs not to poach eachother’s practice squad players?
Gerry Dulac
11:53
Bill, you're always throwing math at me. Not to many hidden gems on practice squads.

Tomlin has complete control of everything that happens in that building, so he has to own all of this. Tomiln traded for his pet Minkah when they desperately needed a first round pick, he drafted Rudolph (first round grade) the languished him on the depth chart, he drafted a running back in the first round when he had nobody to block for him, he drafted Kenny Pickett, he picked Canada and all the assistants, his game planning is JV.....he has to own this....Oh never mind I forgot three more years and $50 million to go!!
Gerry Dulac
11:54
Yes he does, but his moves have to be met with approval by the boss or they don't happen

Gerry, Thanks for the chats.  How much better is Aaron Rodgers now than Mason Rudolph?  Do you think it is worth $33M in cap space?  thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:56
I never thought signing Rodgers was better than the two options they had on their own team. Plus, he will be the fourth different QB in a row to start a season opener. So much for continuity. Gawd, they've become the Browns in that regard.

Hi Gerry. I think I pushed send prematurely. If Mason goes into the season as the starter do you think the Steelers will increase his salary?
Gerry Dulac
11:57
No, but I'm sure he has incentives in his deal.
Brittany
11:57
Do you think there’s a still a good chance for Russ to come back to Pittsburgh? Or are they not interested?
Gerry Dulac
11:58
With each passing day, it appears they are less and less interested. And that's too bad
Guest
11:58
Have the Steelers kicked the tires on Cousins?
Gerry Dulac
11:58
Not there yet
Brittany
11:58
wouldn’t it be easier to just resign Russ? He already knows the system. He’s worked with DK and GP already. Is him wanting 2-3 year contract the issue? Or do they simply not want him?
Gerry Dulac
11:59
That would seem to make a ton of sense. And I dont think it has anything to do with length of contract
