Gerry Dulac's Steelers chat: 03.21.19
powered byJotCast
Scott
11:20
Burns offers nothing. Will he be cut prior to the season?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
I doubt it. To me, makes sense to trade him if you think you can get a low-round choice from someone who had the same erroneous grade on him in the 2016 draft.
Hilton
11:21
Does Mike Hilton really think he deserves more than the minimum when his play fell off dramatically as the season progressed?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
He is making a big mistake. Teams picked on him in coverage as the season wore on. He is too small to get underneath receivers where he can makes plays on the ball. Instead, he plays behind them, which allows them to make the catch. Opponents picked up on this.
John MA
11:23
Best free agent signing for the Steelers so far?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Nelson
Retire21
11:23
Any news on the ‘20 schedule yet? Lots of juicy storylines. At NE, Jets. Browns x2. Aaron Donald.
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Schedule dates won't be released until draft time
Smoke
11:23
Am I delusional...it seems like the national media...during games and in stories...are dead against the Steelers. Am I a Homer or is it true
Gerry Dulac
11:26
They're not against the Steelers. They're just stupid enough to listen to the ridiculous, self-serving narratives of two players who are best being dispatched from your team. But what is most disconcerting about all this is this is the future of professional football and a sorry model for today's professional athlete. No wonder the fans are turned off in droves.
Retire21
11:26
With Ben to be tied up for awhile, any chance Mason could be swapped? Why have a QB with a  first round grade sit 4 years unless he’s like Mark Malone or Slash who could play WR.
Gerry Dulac
11:26
No.
John MA
11:26
So it appears that AB just wanted more money (guaranteed).  Did he or his agent ever approach the Steelers regarding more money?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I'm sure he did.
Kyle B
11:27
In your opinion does Dobbs or Rudolph have what it takes to become the Steelers franchise QB should Big Ben get hurt or decide to retire in the next couple years, or do you think they will address the QB position through the draft after the fact?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I think that's why they drafted Rudoph.
vut5686@yahoo.com
11:27
How do you assess the three Steelers FA; value, bottom of barrel or prudent evaluation that meet needs at reasonable price?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
As I said, I like Nelson and Barron additions. Moncrief is at best a third receiver. I'm just shocked at the amount of money that was tossed around in free agency, even by the Steelers
Evan
11:28
Do Steelers sit at 20 & hope Bush falls to them? If he’s gone do you think they take the highest CB on their board?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
No, they will not take a CB in the first round, unless someone has a really high grade. They will take a WR before they take a CB at that point.
Krugerrand
11:29
Looking back, do you think the Steelers may have got more for AB if they had let his agent shop him?  "Go find the deal you want, provided you come back w/ a 1st round pick."
Gerry Dulac
11:29
Perhaps
AndyB
11:29
With it looking more like both Devin's at LB might be gone before the Steeler's pick can you see a scenario where we would possibly trade up even using next years 1st Rounder to get one of them?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
The Steelers don't believe in trading away future No. 1s. They never have and I doubt that is going to change.
STEEL72
11:30
Hi, Gerry. A lot of mocks have White and Bush gone very early -- White at #5 to Tampa and Bush at #11 to, of course,  the Bungles. I'm not sure Steeler Nation understands the cost of attempting to move up to Denver's #10.  Do you feel that one of these two guys are a must-get or that we should spend our draft capital on more personnel that could pan out, but aren't sure-things?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
The Steelers don't need more personnel. They need specific personnel. They don't need 10 draft choices. They're just wasting them and their time. They need five, six tops. I'd package as many as I can to move up as high as I can in the first or second round, even the third. They have plenty of bodies. Find me a player.
Kyle B
11:32
Does the signing of Barron reduce the possibility of the Steelers trading up in the 1st should White fall to within reach of a trade?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
It could, but I don't think so.
John
11:32
What round do the Steelers select a running back and do they pick a battering ram or speed guy?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Six, maybe seven.
Bill Timmis
11:33
Gerry what are your thoughts on this years surge in FA signings?  Is it a change in mindset or do you think it is a specific response to this years needs and multitude of potential draft picks and the possibility of trading up but still needed to secure positions of need.
Gerry Dulac
11:34
It is an attempt to address specific needs. But I'll be honest, that's what they do every year in free agency. They don't just randomly sign players. They try to address weaknesses.
Enrique Hernandez
11:34
Do you think the Steelers can trade Burnett and some later picks in order to get a better 1st round pick?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
I'd try. I'd throw Artie Burns in there too
JP
11:34
Hi Gerry, it seems that the AFCN teams are all rebuilding their defenses and that the Devin ILBs will go off the board quick.  Do you see any players that Colbert would trade up in this draft like Polamalu before?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
I'm sure they would like to, and I'm sure they will try. Me, I'd swap 1s and give up my No. 2 if I thought I could get White or Bush. Then trade one of your two No. 3 picks and several of the 4, 5 and 6 choices to move up higher in the third.
Kyle B
11:36
Is Moncrief a starter in week 1?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
I sure hope not.
Ryan
11:37
Obviously a lot of variables in the  equation, but with the new additions of Nelson, Moncrief, and Barron.   Do you think they are less likely or more likely now to move up 7-8 spots or so to get Bush (assuming giving up something like a 1st, 3rd, 5th)?  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:37
About the same.

It seems with Barron and Edmunds we have 2 players of about the same skill set to fill the ILB/SS (Viper) position pretty well. Does that negate the need to find an ILB in the draft or is it just to buy time so a rookie ILB does not get thrown into the lineup too soon?

While I hate losing players like Brown (not the person) and Bell I have to say the money we reclaimed from Bell not showing up last year really fills all the holes that were evident last year on D.

Is all this drama as simple as today’s athlete wants to be given respect instead of earning it and wants to be coddled? During Bells interview he kept saying he didn’t feel on same level as Ben, well DUH that’s a 2 time super bowl winning QB. In every job their is a hierarchy and you have to earn your way to a higher level.

I am always wary of national media "hype" teams like the Browns now.  I think we can still win the division next year.  Bengals are new Browns and Ravens lost a lot of key players.  Plus Lamar may have a rough 2nd season as teams pick up tendencies.  Am I wrong to think we may win 10 or 11 and take the division?

Having a tough time dealing  with how little the Steelers got for AB. I thought that when a player is under a contract that does not include a no-trade clause and that player refuses a trade then the team does not have to pay him or play him until he agrees to a trade. If so, the Steelers could have put him on a shelf for a year and trade him next year? Did they have that option?

Morning Gerry. With both White and Bush more than likely gone way before the Steelers pick, I see them taking one of the CB's. God forbid if one of our starting CB's go down with an injury because the depth doesn't look all that good. I don't see how the Steeler's can't take a CB in the 1st round.

Do Steelers sit at 20 & hope for Bush to fall or can you see them being aggressive?

Is all this drama as simple as today’s athlete wants to be given respect instead of earning it and wants to be coddled? During Bells interview he kept saying he didn’t feel on same level as Ben, well DUH that’s a 2 time super bowl winning QB. In every job their is a hierarchy and you have to earn your way to a higher level.

I guess it just means you dont give a damn about people who are subscribers or have followed you for years. I’ll just ask Koboly - he responds to his questions in his chats

Yes these players are unhappy with the contracts they signed, why are they always mad at the team, and never their agents or themselves?

Sometimes the national media is right.  For example...Shannon Sharpe on AB...”If you give a clown more money he just goes out and buys more clown shoes”.

Think about how unlucky we've been with ILBs in the draft. If we had this same pick last year, we would have easily been able to get Van Der Esch or Evans. I hope fans are ready for another surprise pick (a la Edwards from last year), because this draft is not shaking out well for the "positions of need."

Gerry, with all of the Ben bashing going on in the national media; I am compelled to wonder why some of these so-called facts have escaped the notice of our sportswriters here in Pittsburgh. Could it be that while Ben is not a perfect leader, that the media blitz is way off base?

You hit the nail on the head re: not needing 10 new players. At best there are 2, maybe 3, starting positions that could use upgrades where we don't feel comfortable. Time to go and get ourselves a high quality player like White. Unfortunately, I don't see the Steelers making the kind of trade that would require
