Morning, Gerry! instead of asking you who you think the Steeler will pick first....
who do you think Mike Tomlin wants to draft? Who's gonna put the biggest smile on his face with the pick?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Just so you know, I don't tell y'all who I think the Steelers will pick; I tell you who the Steelers think they might pick, based on what I've been told. But, no matter who it is, I'm not sure the smile on Mike Tomlin's face will match the one he had last year when they took Pickett

Why does the Steelers website list Kendrick Green at 6’4” tall? I thought only colleges lied about their players’ heights?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Haha. Must be a typo.

Were the Steelers simply “sick of” some players and wanted to turn a new leaf? It looks like the Steelers could have afforded to keep Terrell Edmonds, Robert Spillane, and even Cameron Sutton if they had wanted to. Why did they really let them go?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
They weren't sick of any of them. They wanted to keep Sutton, but the Lions offered him a deal that was way over and above what the Steelers were offering. And Spillane got a better deal from the Raiders. Now Edmunds? He took less money from the Eagles than the Steelers paid him last year, which tells me the Steelers had no intention of wanting to bring him back.

Gerry, you wrote an article not too long ago in which you said that Edmunds had a "fantastic year". Are you surprised by how little interest there was in re-signing him? The Steelers made a low ball offer that was barely topped by the Eagles. He is currently on a one year deal with a pretty low guarantee and a bunch of "not likely to be earned" incentives.
Gerry Dulac
11:16
I stopped reading your question after you said "fantastic." I never said that.

was drafting Terrell edmunds a mistake ?? Very average safety
Gerry Dulac
11:17
It happens. But they did reach for him in the first round. Edmunds' problem is he was always evaluated on being a No. 1 pick. If he were a 2 or a 3, people would say it was a good find

Are the Steelers planning to open a thrift store for O-lineman? Seems unlikely they'll draft one til at least the fourth round, do you think?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
Unless it's a LT
Sweaty Ken

When does the team plan to bring in Dupree for his visit and do you think they end up signing him? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:18
I don't know when, but it would be a great move if they can sign him. Depends what Bud would want.

If a top-3 RT and CB are on the board at 17, what is the priority?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
CB

Gerry what's your view on the Highsmith situation? Would you extend him after the draft? Franchise tag him after 2023 and then draft his replacement?
I feel like that position opposite of Watt is almost like the WR position back in the Big Ben days where we could let go of our top WR's who were wanting huge 2nd contracts and we always had a guy ready to step up and be no.1 and then keep drafting guys.
Gerry Dulac
11:21
I think they will try to extend him once they get to training camp. They want to extend him. But they are not going to break the bank because they are already paying TJ Watt and Fitzpatrick a lot of money

Thanks for the chat, Gerry. Do the Steelers really still use a base 3-4?  If yes, is there a need for a gap filling, lane clogging, run stuffer at NT and if yes who might that ideally be if he is not yet on the roster?  If not can the ILBs be downhill plodders who can stuff the run by dominant dlinemen upfront?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
They use it, but it's a misnomer to call it their base defense. Their nickel package (with no NT) is essentially their base defense because they play that the majority of the time.

Good Morning Gerry.  The Terrell Edmunds departure is confusing to me because the Steelers have paid much more to players that contribute much less (D. Watt). What is more baffling is that no one else in the league is willing to top $2M for a solid mid level safety that is always available.  Is there more to this story?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
I couldn't agree more. And I'm not aware of there being more to the story, but I'm checking. He took less money than he got from the Steelers last year. And it's not like he's coming off a major injury or was benched.

Gerry, why is MT so against adding offensive coaching expertise? He has done this for the defensive side of the ball. I think Canada would be better off with help.

Jerry, did you get out to Whisper Rock or Scottsdale National while in AZ?
Gerry Dulac

No, but I was in the neighborhood

Would signing 33 year old and 10 year vet Marvin Jones to the roster for 2 years at $6M and maybe incentives help mature the wr room and be a good addition?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
Wouldn't be a bad addition, but any move such as that will probably have to wait till after the draft to see what they do.

11:24
Regardless of what Steelers do in FA or Draft - our OC remains the weak link on that side of the ball, true?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Not only true, VERY true. Biggest question mark going into the season.

Porter Junior has to be the pick if he’s there, you agree!
Gerry Dulac
11:25
I don't agree he HAS to be the pick. But you might be able to get decent odds on that happening.
Jim
11:25
Do you think they will add a FA safety? I don't think we can count on a draft pick starting there, or being a major contributor.
Gerry Dulac
11:26
I do.
Jim
11:26
I like a CB, OL, DL, CB first four picks, is that likely?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I might insert ILB in there; otherwise, I wouldn't argue much
Jim
11:27
I think we can't lose at 17, if all the OTs are gone it means we have our pick of CBs. I might trade out of 32 to try and get one more pick in the top 150, is that likely?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I doubt it. They effectively have two No. 1 picks. Don't think they're moving out of that.
Robert in Yorktown Virginia
11:27
Are the Steelers players as professional football players as well coached as they need to be? If not, then in what areas can coaching improvements stand to be made?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
I'll be honest, Robert, I am not in any position to judge that, nor would I try to be. There are probably some members in the media who think they are coaches. I am not one of them. I try to tell you what they think, not what I think.
