Did the Steelers send anyone to Penn State’s pro day? I know the coach and GM were at Georgia’s pro day, which was held the same day. Was wondering if they sent someone else to represent them at Penn State. Thanks.

2:18
Yes they did

Is there anyone projected to go in that 12-20 range that they'd be willing to trade up a few spots to get?  Like Thieneman for instance?

Could be

If Rodgers doesn't come back (I know he's coming back), would the team sign a veteran QB unless there's someone in the draft they like better than Howard?  If they sign a veteran would Sklyar Thompson or Josh Dobbs be targets?
Gerry Dulac
2:19
Sure it's a possibility, I wouldn't rule it out. And I think it would be someone with more cache than Dobbs on Skylar Thompson

I know national media is high on the Steelers trading an OT to replace B. Jones. It seems you and other beat writers are less inclined to draft one early. I feel like a topic not discussed has been the benefit of drafting a Tackle and moving Fautano to left guard. This would give us three capable tackles, mitigating risk of b jones injury persisting or not playing well enough to keep the role. Or best case, he does come back healthy and improving on the field, resulting in a boost to right tackle and left guard. Thoughts?

There ya go, someone who knows a thing or two.

Do you think they have Makai Lemon on their draft board for the first round, or did he fall out of favor based on the interview blow up thing, that might have been way overblown anyway.  Still, we've had enough of the Diva WR's to last a lifetime.
Gerry Dulac
2:22
All I can tell you is, if they think that's a real issue (and I don't know if it is), they will pass.

Gerry, do you think we will see any contract restructures and who would it be potentially?
Gerry Dulac
2:23
For a change, they don't need to, but the possibilities are Watt, DK and Ramsey

Hey Gerry-  In your estimation, what percentage of draft picks actually hit, or turn into quality contributors?  I am in the camp of using all 12 of the picks would be a good thing, since I am estimating roughly 30% hit rate.  If we could get 4 to 5 quality young players out of this draft it is a huge win.  Thanks for your thoughts on this.
Gerry Dulac
2:23
The last 3 drafts have produced much better than a 30% hit rate, though I'm not sure what you consider a "hit."

Hi Gerry - tough seeing Neil Shipley having a rough start on the PGA tour - only one cut made - gives you an idea how competitive the tour is - any thoughts? Thx
Gerry Dulac
2:24
Yes it is, and you're right. But I still think he has the right stuff. He just has to start showing it before it becomes too difficult to keep his card

If the Steelers could draft a future Hall of Famer in this draft which position (besides quarterback) would help them the most?
Gerry Dulac
2:25
Good question, probably because I don't have a good answer for it. Idk...safety?

Why is it no one is really talking about the play that injured Broderick Jones? Even in real time #90 of the Bears pulling the back of Jones' helmet looked borderline criminal. No flag, no commentary, really not discernible discussion at all on something I can't imagine is coached as a productive football move. Am I off?
Gerry Dulac
2:26
I think you are. I didn't see it that way. What I saw was a freakish, accidental occurrence. But, hey, I could be wrong

Say the Steelers move up a couple of spots to grab the guard, safety or WR they want in the 1st. Do they still have enough draft capital to add a second pick in the 2nd? Could get a top player at all 3 spots.
Gerry Dulac
2:27
They are not going to move up to take a guard. And there are enough WRs that they don't need to give up a prime draft pick merely to move up. Now safety.....?

The last 2 years in a row the Steelers #1draft pick has missed substantial time with injury in their rookie year. Is it just bad luck or what?
Gerry Dulac
2:28
You can't predict that stuff.

Hi Gerry, I feel like the Steelers have a conundrem this year. They have most positions filled with a competent starter (G and QB the exceptions). And then have 5 draft picks in the top 100. You want those rookies to have an impact this year. Yet they have to unseat a starter to do that. How do you approach drafting and developing rookies wih this situation?
Gerry Dulac
2:32
With few exceptions, if they really like them, they will take them and worry about the roster spots later

Gerry, hellllooooo! Over many years of absorbing pre-draft analysis, fans often read about prospects who are “raw” but “have all the traits”. Broderick Jones recently comes to mind of one of these players sometimes drafted in the early rounds. I really only pay attention to our picks but I’ve rarely noticed any of these guys actually panning out. It’s frustrating. Is it me? Do you agree with this strategy?
Gerry Dulac
2:33
It happens all over the league, not just the Steelers. Go back and look at past No. 1 picks in the league. You might be surprised at the number of misses.

jerry, why does ben continue to give his opinions when they don't count for anything, he did nothing for the steelers his last 8 years

Good afternoon, Gerry. Thank you for the chat. I've read they won't be drafting 12 players with the picks they have and agree, that's too many picks. Do you think they could take 8 and use the rest of the draft capital to target players they want.  Do you think they'll come away with 2 WRs, LG, S, DT, CB, TE, and ILB? Or as much as 9 if they want another tackle. I don't see them taking a QB and think the camp are will be a UDFA.
Gerry Dulac
2:38
I think they should, but THEY have never said they won't be using all 12 picks. In fact, McCarthy said yesterday he has no problem using all 12 picks

QB Drew Allar has lots of skills you can't teach. Can QB coach Tom Arth and Mike McCarthy teach him the skills you can teach?
Gerry Dulac

The problem is, he has something else you can't teach

Hi Gerry - the draft simulators out there are unrealistic but a fun break in the day every once in a while. The iterations I've seen have Thieneman going around 17. Do they have enough interest in him (and need at safety long term) to move up 4-5 spots or are they more likely to take BPA at 21?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
2:39
They do not take the BPA. They take the BPA at a position of need

Gerry, Thanks for all that you and the others do on these chats. No question today, just an observation. The NFL talks about player safety but yet have you seen the size or lack thereof of thigh pads, next to no knee pads. I don't want to date myself but I remember a time when the thigh pads actually protected the thigh and the knee pads covered the entire knee let alone the hip pads, tailbone pad and the shoulder pad size. no wonder these guys get hurt and have serious knee injuries. If your going to protect the players then I think they need to take a long look at some of these items.
Gerry Dulac
2:41
Well, I'm going to guess they have determined knee pads do not prevent the troublesome and serious knee injuries we see in the game. And we're not taking about bruises.

Is Will Howard the most hyped up 6th round draft pick who never has taken a snap in the nfl ever?

He might be up there
