OK kids, I promise no April Fool's jokes when we start our chat in about 15 minutes. Get ready...

OK kids, here we go....

The team has one pick in the top 100. Chances they trade down to accrue more?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
None

Safety depth currently includes Dangerfield and Allen.  Upgrades are warranted.  Do you see the Steelers addressing this in FA, draft, both?  FA seems like limited options and one would think draft priorities are greater on Offense
Gerry Dulac
10:48
One or the other. If don't get one in the draft, look to free agency. But they know they need a solid backup.

Assuming the team has been handling prospect "visits" virtually? Any prospects you know the team has spoken with?
Gerry Dulac

Those interviews start Thursday

It sounds like the team sees Wormley more as DE depth. Do you think the team takes a NT high?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Agreed. One of the two inside linemen they can rotate with Heyward and Tuitt in sub packages. Nose tackle can stll be very much in play in the draft, mainly because they need more and better depth on the D-line. Leki Fotu from Utah??

10:52
I agree with a playmaker at 49 but what would be your guess on what position they go with if none worthy is available?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Wide receiver or RB. You can pretty much count on it
Nick

Hi Gerry, any word on how Ben is progressing?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
He is coming along fine, according to all who know and monitor

Will the team address Safety depth via the draft or FA from your view?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
As I said earlier, they know they need a backup safety, so maybe.

With 17 games in the season, would they get 2 bye weeks? if a wild card team goes all the way to superbowl, that would mean 17 + 5 games =22. How can a human body endure that many games?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
Not sure if they determined a second bye week with 17 games, but I'm guessing they won't. Also, the amount of postseason games won't change. A WC team going to the Super Bowl would still play only 4 games.

Hello Gerry. Thanks for doing the chat....I know the even crazier questions (due to being quarantined) probably make it more challenging. We appreciate your faithfulness. Onto my quarterly question...Why is McCullers STILL on the roster? Does losing Hargrave make his roster spot safe once again?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
I don't know and I hope not. I have never seen a team stick with a player for six years (maybe seven) who is so seldom used. Time to move on and get someone who has a chance to develop. That ship (semi?) has sailed with McCullers

Who is/was your favorite Steelers player to interview over the past years, and why?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
There are more than several, but one always jumps to the top -- James Farrior.

Hi Gerry, this possibility mentioned by Mike Florio of all the players staying in West Virginia at the same hotel, and building new fields for all the games to be played on...I mean, I understand contingency planning, but the NFL seems to think they are invincible to this virus shutting down the season, which feels like a very real possibility. No question, just a comment.
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Who knows where this is headed, but there is absolutely no reason to think that is not a very real possibility. I think OTAs will be out and I think training camp at St. Vincent College will not happen this year, either. Colleges everywhere are already starting to shut down campus classes for the summer. I can't imagine SVC would want 80-90 players, countless coaches, scouts, staff and media in their dorms in July and August if they are planning to open in September. I don't know that, just saying...

Gerry, pretend this real scenario ( Not an hypothetical) you are calling the shoots, what would you do: a team call @ 49 offers you to trade back 10 or so to 59-63 and give you a late 3rd or early 4th pick in exchange (with as example WRs Reagor Hamler Claypool Rb’s Dobbins Akers Moss OL’s Wilson Ruiz Cushenberry and 2 Defensive players add one or two others well rated by Steelers still on the board, all very draftable @ 49 in my opinion) I would honestly do it, how about you? Explain, Thanks..
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Let me know when you get the call.

Opinion of OT Isaiah Wilson with the #49 pick? BIG tackle from Georgia who could learn behind AV for a year.
Gerry Dulac
11:06
He does not fit the type of OL the Steelers prefer. He is too big, slow and has problems with speed rushers. Not good when you're protecting Ben's blind side
Justin
11:06
After the recent additions in Free Agency, what position do you think the Steelers will take at 49?  Any guess on the player?  Thank you!
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Wide receiver or running back. Tight end is out after signing Ebron. They need playmakers, a Jalen Reagor/KJ Hamler type of player. They need players who can produce touchdowns. In case you weren't paying attention, they were only team in the league that didn't score at least 30 points in any game last season. They NEED production.

How cool would it be for the Steelers to draft the Lemieux kid from Oregon?   He does fill a potential need(OG), and in rd 3-4 would be a good pick i think.   Any info on him?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I'm guessing you think it would be cool to draft him because of his last name. But he's not a bad late-round pick. Tough, powerful kid, scrappy -- Steelers kind of player.

What round do you think we draft another ILB or do we get one in free agency.
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Wouldn't be surprised if the first defensive player they drafted was an inside backer.

Our First Pick and you have a playmaker WR a playmaker RB let’s say Taylor or Dobbins and a couple very good OL one OT and one IOL, what Steelers should take based on today’s roster? Thanks for the chats you all !
Gerry Dulac
11:13
The playmaker wide receiver would be my (and their) choice.

How is the Steelers cap situation now after the restructures and FA signings? Still have any room to sign Cam or Jameis?  April Fools on that part, but are they compliant enough to sign rookies or is some more work needed?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
They are not signing Newton or Winston.
Kyle

Is the decline in the Steelers running game based more upon declining OL play, or is it based upon the running style of the RB's on the roster?  Bell had a unique style that gave the line time to establish their blocks.
Gerry Dulac
11:17
He also had a unique style to miss holes when they were open because he waited. It's a philosophical/technical mindset with the Steelers. Their line is built to protect Ben. It is not built to merely run the ball, everything from the types of lineman they want to the technique they employ. But you are forgetting one important missing ingredient -- Ben. When he's there, everything changes. Opposing teams can no longer stack the line of scrimmage against him. He can go no-huddle, slide and change the protection, audible to another play, something the other guys can't do because they're too young. His absence affects everything they do offensively, including running the ball.
