Gerry: Happy April Fool's Day.  There has been a lot of media talk about the concept that if you keep Pickens this year and he leaves via free agency next year, you get a 3rd round comp pick in 2027.  Isn't this talk highly speculative because comp picks depend on the "net" gains and losses of signing free agents?  If the Steelers are active in free agency next year, couldn't they get nothing for losing Pickens?

Yes, this is true. But I don't think they are going to just let Pickens leave in free agency.

I don't think that's the reason they released him, but I guess it's possible

Gerry instead of Aaron Rodgers, wouldn't Dan Marino make more sense? He's about the same age, just as mobile, has Pittsburgh roots and a stronger arm.

Gerry: I know that you favor a DL in round 1 and it is hard to disagree with you, but doesn't Jaxson Dart profile as a much stronger prospect to take at #21 than Pickett was to take at #20?  More athletic, 2 years younger, bigger hands, stronger arm, more than a one year wonder in college.  Will fear of making the same mistake twice actually cause the next mistake?

If the Steelers draft a mid round QB and signed their washed up QB of choice, do you think the draft pick can get enough reps to show if he can be any good before being replaced by a high draft pick next year?

Good morning Gerry. I thought Arthur Smith's offenses were supposed to be based, to an extent, on significant use of tight ends. Do you foresee the Steelers possibly moving on from their niche TE's (Washington, Heyward) and going after a big time all around player to pair with Freiermuth? Tyler Warren would look great in black and gold.

Yes he would, but that's not happening. Tight end is the least of their concerns. And Warren will be long gone by then anyway

Hi Gerry. Let’s say after all this waiting  that we end up with Mason being the starter (which I don’t mind at all). It’s pretty much a game of attrition with him being put at QB3 a few years ago. But, here’s the million dollar question - will he be allowed to use the middle of the field?

Gerry, why is trading Pickens a thought after getting Metcalf? They are very comparable players so trading him would essentially put our WRs in the same spot as last year minus a second round pick? Even if you were to trade him and spend the third round pick you get back on a WR, we've seen how the Steelers gradually work rookies into the gameplan so there would be no immediate payoff. Not to mention the last 5 WRs, besides Pickens, have not had any long term success (wilson, austin, claypool, diontae, james washington). Keep pickens and metcalf together and have multiple legit playmakers for once. Thanks.

I think they will keep them together for now. Just don't anticipate Pickens getting a second contract here
