Hi Gerry, have you heard how the new regime will differ from the previous one in terms of how the draft board is ranked? Will there be more weight on measurables/analytics or what is on tape?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
I can't tell you specifically because I don't know, but I have to think the evaluation process will be different because of all the new blood in the personnel department. That being said, Mike Tomlin is a big tape guy -- i.e., how a player performs on the field -- so I don't think that is going to change.

Still believe the Steelers need another inside linebacker in the draft or in free agency as well as a back up OLB. Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Backups at both positions are needed, but with Mark Robinson waiting to emerge at ILB, finding a backup edge guy is more important

Mr. D, There's always a player or two who is considered a sure first round pick who drops out of the first round. Do you have any guess on a player we might be surprised to find available to the Steelers at #32?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
David, I do not. Maybe a corner like Kelee Ringo. Or Cam Smith. That's hard to project.

Hi Gerry,  thanks for your wonderful chats.  Now that the Steelers have Allen Robinson, how will that affect the status of Calvin Austin?  Most Steelers fans know very little about Austin.  Most importantly to make the team he will need good hands.  How would you rate Austin's hands compared to Diontae Johnson's?  Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:29
It doesn't. The Steelers are viewing Austin as this year's fourth-round draft choice after missing all of last season. And I can't rate his hands until I see him on the field in game action, which we haven't seen.

Does the lack of depth at OT push that to top priority for 17 over CB?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
Possibly

Is there a position the Steelers are more likely to trade up to get?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
Yeah, CB.

Does the team have a favorite OT from what you've gleaned from your sources?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Parris Johnson. Darnell Wright. Broderick Jones. The usual suspects

Morning Gerry. Just after the season you stayed that Larry O was a better fit for the Steelers than Hargrove. Every metric, stat, ranking, eye test, and now the contracts would strongly suggest otherwise. Why did you feel that way?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
You are always trying to attribute comments that I never made to me. Show me where I said that and I'll answer your question. Which means I won't be answering your question

What would you think of the proposed trade up to try to grab Carter? I think it’s too risky at this point and to lose another draft choice will not be a good long-term investment. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
That's a big leap of faith to make for a player with off-field issues. I don't see that happening.

If the consensus top 3 CB’s, 3 OT’s, and Van Ness are off the board, could you see the Steelers selecting, D Wright, D Banks, trading back, selecting somebody else or none of the above?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
I could see them taking one of them. How about Bryan Bresee?

Why do people keep saying Calijah Kancey doesn't fit the Steelers profile of a defensive lineman? Aren't coaches paid to get the most of their players? The tape and athleticism speak for themselves. I'm not saying take him at 17. But at 32? They should jump at selecting him. The guy is too good to pass at 32. Figure out how to make him fit.
Gerry Dulac
11:34
That's because of his height restrictions. But he's either a player or not. Forget about a couple inches. Same thing they said about Aaron Donald

Should we expect any changes from the Matt Canada offense such as more throws downfield? It feels like a strong running game plus play action passing should be a key goal for the team to get more "chunk" plays.
Gerry Dulac
11:34
That's what we're going to find out. I need to see it before I proclaim it

Hi Gerry-  is Edge in play for first 2 picks?  Are fans taking Highsmith extension as a given and should not be doing so?  How many teams have 2 high priced Edge rushers?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Highsmith is their top priority to extend but I don't believe he is going to break the bank. I don't believe he will be offered the type of money the Steelers were willing to commit to Bud Dupree back when. I would never rule out an edge guy because the Steelers view the position as the most valuable on their defense.

I believe they brought in TE, D Washington. I know he is considered a good blocking TE but had limited receptions in his college career. He is considered a 2nd round pick. With all their needs, would they really consider him that early?
Gerry Dulac
11:37
No.

Thanks for the Chats Gerry, I know Allen Robinson was inexpensive but it seems like this is a trade on hope.  Hope he can stay healthy, hope he can return to the form of THREE years ago etc.  Is hope a good way to build a player group?
Gerry Dulac
11:38
I hear ya, Gus. And that's what it is -- they hope he can stay healthy and be the productive receiver he was in 2019-2020

Hello Gerry, If healthy, I think the addition of AR will help to improve Kenny's efficiency in the REDZONE because of his ability to highpoint the the ball, his size & low drop percentage. Do you agree??? thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:38
If healthy, I think he can help in any number of ways, no question.

Are the Steelers a playoff team without major contributions from the 2023 draft class?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
I think they can be. I like their offseason moves.

11:41
Hi Gerry. With the larger IOL additions, the possibility of drafting massive OT’s such as Wright, have you heard of the possibility of the Steelers moving away from a zone scheme and more towards a power gap scheme?  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
11:42
Not at all. They just moved from a power scheme to a zone scheme last season with very good success. Why change back?

11:42
Hi Gerry,Swapping 7th round picks for AR seems like a no brainer to me. Very little risk for a wr who could provide leadership to the group.
Gerry Dulac
11:42
Correct

11:42
Does Kendrick green make the team with all the moves we have made? Why haven’t they cut him yet? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac

I think he has a hard time surviving and, yeah, I'm surprised too,
