Will the Steelers stay the course on draft day or make a splash?  Trades, draft a QB etc
Gerry Dulac
11:23
I don't think you will see them draft a QB who would be considered a splash. In fact, I don't expect them to draft a QB at all.
Bean
11:23
Do you think Ben still has some left in the tank?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
I think he proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt last season

Some mock drafters continue to predict QB, OL or Defense in first round for Steelers. I’m still thinking if Harris is there then he becomes a Steeler. He’s a powerful big body guys that bring hybrid (catch run, block) talent and hopefully durability as well. Something this team hasn’t had at that position (See J Conner games missed). Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
If the Steelers are serious about making another serious push in 2021 -- and bringing back Ben and JuJu suggests they are -- then drafting a QB in the first round does not help that push at all. RB, C, OL -- those positions will be of immediate help toward that goal.

Hi Gerry, thanks for the chats. I know this has been asked a lot. What is your opinion on how the Steelers should approach the depth at CB? Draft (which they aren't very good at), UFA, or FA? I think the UFA might be the best route since it's essentially a rookie that they wouldn't have to spend a draft pick to acquire. thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
I think history has shown that drafting CBs is not the way to go.

What do you feel like the Steelers plan should be for QB for the next few years?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
Right now it's Mason Rudolph. And I don't have a problem with that.
Joe G
11:27
Should the Steelers consider using Mason more during the regular season when the outcome of games become clear - win or loss - to save the wear and tear on Ben and continue his development?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
I really don't think Mason needs to develop any more. He's at the point where he has developed. The only thing left is to be a starter

In your opinion what is the most important trait in an NFL coach and how does Tomlin measure up in that regard?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
Not sure which is most important, but getting today's player to respond to your message is right up there. And Tomlin does that as well as any. There is little about him that is phony.

Are you excited for Dwayne Haskins opportunity in Pittsburgh?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
I don't get excited about such things. Playing Oakmont - that excites me.

What makes being a sports reporter in Pittsburgh unique over being a sports journalist in any other city with professional sports teams?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Nothing. It's all the same. But I will say this -- the following Pittsburgh teams have around the country with all those transplanted post-steel mill Western Pennsylvanians, especially with the Steelers, is very unique.

Hi Gerry, I read that Tomlin has been extended 3 years. What about Colbert?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Colbert just goes year to year. That is his choice, not the Steelers

How likely are the Steelers to draft an ILB in the first 4 rounds? I am just not sold on Spillane as a full time starter and concerned we are just one more injury away from a hole in the middle of our run defense.
Gerry Dulac
11:34
It's a very good possibility, but by bringing back Vince Williams I think the first LB you will see drafted is an outside LB.

Gerry:  Enjoy your chats.  Who are your sleeper picks for the draft?
Gerry Dulac

Good morning Gerry.  Were you surprised the Steelers extended Coach Tomlin‘s contract before this season?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
No, they always extend him before the season. But I was surprised they made it three years. That's the biggest contract he's received since he was first hired. At best, he and Cowher were given two-year extensions

At what point did stability become the organization’s number one goal instead of Lombardi trophies?

In your opinion are the Steelers holding off from considering Jesse James as a TE2 in free agency till after the draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:37
Maybe. But I thought they might have added him already.

Gerry I wonder if all the so called Steeler fans that hate Coach Tomlin realize none of his QB's that started games have a loosing record. He's had 7 or 8 from Duck on up. Yes he makes mistakes, but my goodness what do these people want ?
Gerry Dulac
11:38
Can we pay him too!

Gerry any chance Steelers pick up a veteran tackle (or two) like Fischer from the Chiefs after the draft? The line seems very thin
Gerry Dulac
11:38
Let's see what happens in the draft. But my initial answer is no.

11:39
Hey Gerry. For the Steelers, do you think their window for winning a Super Bowl is in the years 2023, 2024 and 2025 ? I feel like teams like the Browns, Ravens, Chiefs and Bills will have salary cap hell because of their QB salaries the next few years and the Steelers won't with hopefully a young QB or a decent FA QB to go along with a Top Steeler Defense.
Gerry Dulac
11:41
Once those teams you mentioned have to give their QBs a second contract, usually for $100 million, then cap problems start setting in. I know KC has already given Mahomes that ridiculous contract, but his cap hit will eventually catch up to them. It happens to every team with a franchise QB. That's when tough decisions have to be made. And that's why the Steelers have proven they are the best at handling the cap and remaining contenders.

Good morning Gerry.  Do you think that the Steelers are leaning, strongly, towards finding a team to trade lower in the first round, with in order to get another day two pick?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:42
Probably not another day 2 pick, more likely being able to move up in the second round.

It strikes me as funny that guys like Ike Taylor, who would have zero chance of being hired as a GM anywhere in the league, offers his draft selections and people seem to take them seriously. What would make anyone think that Nate Burlson and others have any knowledge of NFL talent?
Gerry Dulac
11:42
I'm running out of money to pay these guys!
