OK, kids, I see you're lining up in the store so we'll get ready in just a couple minutes. Just one thing --no draft questions OK? Just kidding
9:51
OK, I can't wait any longer, either. Let's get started....

This off-season, at what point and why did the Steelers stop believing in Kenny Pickett after saying they did and decide to sign Russell Wilson and declare him the starter?
Gerry Dulac
9:52
Hey Bill, in case you have forgotten, they said they were "comfortable" with Mason Rudolph as their quarterback right after Ben retired. Coaches and GMs say all kinds of things they don't really mean. And, I don't know that I've ever mentioned this before, but Pickett did it to himself.

The Steelers have at least two true positional needs (unlike some years) in Center and Wide Receiver before this draft.  How will  this complexity complicate drafting the best player available across these and other positions (d-line, tackle, etc.)?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
Mike, you are entirely correct and I wish I had a Jarvis Jones autographed jersey to give you. Here's how to ease the complexity: The talent pool at WR is deep, the talent pool at center is not. You better get a center when you have the chance. You can get the type of WR they need or want on the second or third round. Unless, of course, Marvin Harrison Jr. somehow falls to No. 20, which he won't,

Gerry, if Coach T does not think that we are thirsty for a competent center, is it possible that the chronic dehydration resulting from the 7-year playoff drought has negatively impacted his mental processes?
Gerry Dulac
9:55
Now there's a question that belongs in the HOF of chats.
Danny
9:55
I really like mcconkey coming out of Georgia any chance the steelers take him at 51
Gerry Dulac
9:56
He's one of those receivers that won't go on the first round but would be a decent second- or third-round pick.

Thanks for the chats Gerry. Do reporters get to eat in the cafeteria on the Southside complex? If so, how is the food and any recommendations? How is it compared to St. Vincent's caf?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
Yes we do
Danny
9:57
If Tomlin has a bad year can khan fire him after the season is over
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Khan doesn't have the power to fire Tomlin. Only one person can do that.

Hi Gerry. Have the Steelers had any internal discussions about flipping their tackles, Jones to LT & Moore to RT ?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
No. The only discussion is trying to move Jones to LT at some point soon.
Danny
9:58
I heard yesterday the steelers were trying to trade up to the 12 pick to draft Mitchell out of toledo is there any truth to that rumor
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Gawd I hope not. And....no.
Dickey G

Gerry, if you shot your career round at Champions Lakes, would you leap into one of the snapping turtle-infested ponds to celebrate?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Haha. No, I leap into the restaurant

If the Steelers say trade up with the Broncos, could they acquire Courtland Sutton in that deal?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
And who says they are trading up with the Broncos???
Randy Savage
10:02
The Steelers clearly value linemen that are versatile. With that being the case, why are they higher on Dan Moore than most considering he's limited to LT?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
They don't need their left tackle to be versatile. They need him to be an NFL left tackle -- the most important position on the line.

Gerry, does Coach T realize how arrogant he comes across when he talks about how none of his peers do Pro Days like he does?  To be brutally honest, and considering his recent track record, should he perhaps consider doing things more like his successful peers?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
I hear ya Stash, but I also hate to tell you -- most of his peers aren't as successful as him. In fact, the only one with more wins and SB trophies is Andy Reid.

Wouldn’t it be silly to use the number one pick on a guy who didn’t play enough in college, planning  for him to be ready to start next year? And do you agree with what seems to be the consensus that a tackle is worth a higher pick than a center? I don’t see how that can be true.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Left tackle, especially, is among the most valued commodity in the draft, right behind quarterbacks, because it's the most important position on the line. But that doesn't mean you draft a tackle when you don't need one this year when you NEED a starting center.

Is Cooper Dejean a realistic possibility?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Yes he is

10:06
Percentage chance the Steelers 1st round pick is someone that didn't come for a visit?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Very very doubtful
Bill in LA
10:07
Why did the Steelers decide not try to sign Mason Rudolph after Mason saved the season and the Steelers said they wanted him back? What changed that they decided not to offer him a half decent contract?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
What changed is they signed Russell Wilson to compete with Pickett. When that happened, that was it for Mason. He was moving on and so were they

Tulane QB Pratt 6th Round. Thoughts ?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Don't know enough about him because I don't need to
Eric from TX
10:09
Do you think the Steelers can become a competitive playoff team by additions just through the draft, or do you think there will also need to be a trade (or two)?  If the latter, what trade pick up do you see as most likely?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I do. I already think they are better now than they were a year ago after the offseason moves they made -- the two QBs, Queen, Jackson, even Elliott. But they need to draft a starting center and get another WR. If they are making a trade, it will be for a WR

Non drafty question- Any updates on who the Steelers might pick to replace retired Bill Hilllgriove?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
None yet. Still scouring...
