Gerry, does Minkah's game tape look so good to somehow overshadow his very mediocre stats, not to mention his complete lack of desire to tackle Josh Allen at crunch time?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
I would never question Minkah's desire.

In order to be relevant again, the Steelers likely need to hit on 3-4 straight drafts.  This is what Noll did from '69 to '74.  This is what Cowher did from '01 to '04.  I don't believe Tomlin has hit on 3 drafts total in his 17 years.  How will we ever get back to building championship teams with this track record?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
That's what we're going to find out. Tough to compare Noll's era. There was no free agency then. Players stayed put.

Why does everyone want Tyler Boyd?

Where will you be watching from when that first pick is announced?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
From in front of a TV, like everyone else. Unlike everyone else, I will be at the Steelers offices

Bill Parcells: a coach who listens to the fans will soon be sitting with them.

Hahaha. Love that one.

Who will have more catches in 2024, Dionte Johnson or the Steelers' WR2?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
I'll say Diontae

Not only the best draft ever, but they also got Donnie Shell as an undrafted FA!
Gerry Dulac
10:51
That's right. 5 guys from the same year in the HOF -- 4 from the draft. Only one other team has ever had more than two players from the same draft get into the HOF, and that was Dallas, which had 3. The Cowboys drafted Mel Renfro, Bob Hayes and Roger Staubach in 1964. Don't say I never enlightened y'all.

Hey Gerry.  Great chats.  I keep hearing they want a “plug and play” o-lineman but this HC Rarely plugs and plays anyone.  For as great as last years draft class was no plugs and plays.
Gerry Dulac
10:52
A center will be plug-and-play without question. A tackle won't, unless they trade Dan Moore.

Any chance the steelers draft Fiske in the third round
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Sure. I'd have no problem with that if he were still there

Will they extend fields?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
More than likely. And before the season

Hi Gerry. To me the gaping at C is going to cost us from being able to take full advantage of really nice depth at OT, CB and WR. While also having the luxury of adding a LB and DL to fortify our depth there. Do you agree with that? And where do you think they will ultimately get their C?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
I do not. You can't base your draft entirely on a deep talent pool, especially your No. 1 pick. If anything, it should fuel your case to take the player you NEED because there aren't many of them out there. Better get him while you can.

If the Steelers did acquire Aiyuk from 49ers ..a long shot for sure. What would fallout be with Pickens sharing targets and the salary it would require to sign him
Gerry Dulac
10:55
I don't think it will be another Pickett hissy-fit, if that's what you're asking.
Lake was underappreciated

Hey Gerry — thanks for all that you do :-). Is it me (and it could be me) or does Cooper DeJean give you some Carnell Lake vibes? I know CL was more LB, but two great gotta have em on the field Swiss Army knife types? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
10:56
To a degree, because he can be either a CB or safety. But I would prefer he stay at one position -- CB -- and not use him as a jack-of-all trades.

Hello Gerry.  What happens if top 7 tackles are gone at 20 and top 3 center gone at 51?  Do we reach for next in line or take a different position of need?  Can we really afford to go without an OL in the top 2 rounds?  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:58
I don't think the top seven tackles will be gone at 20 if you start doing the math, not when 5 QBs, 3 WRs, one TE, one T, one or two edge rushers and one or two CBs will likely go in the upper half of the draft.

I have a feeling that even if all the centres are there at 20 they will go get DeJean
Gerry Dulac
10:59
That won't be far-fetched, but all the centers won't be gone. Only one might be gone by 20, and it just might be the guy they like. And need (have I mentioned that?).

Can you explain how things work with the PG staff on draft night and the following days?  As in, I believe you, Ray, Batko (maybe others?) will be at the South Side facility, but do you have any access to any coaches or staff as the night progresses?  After the first night, on Friday and Saturday do you get to chat with them between picks?  Or are the PG people separated from the Steelers brass until it ends and you don’t have much interaction with them until the post draft press conference?  Maybe a simpler way of asking—what is the draft like for you, Ray, and Brian?
Gerry Dulac

The PG and other media people get to talk with Tomlin and Omar Khan after the No. 1 pick, get to talk to coordinators after the second and third round picks on Friday and get to talk to assistant coaches after each of the remaining picks on Saturday. At the completion of the draft, we get another audience with Tomlin and Khan. So, to answer your question, yes.
11:02
OK kids, that's all the time we have today. It's on to the draft...
