OK, kids, we're going to start our chat in just a few minutes....
10:55
OK, here we go...Fire away!!

Can you confirm or deny the rumor currently circulating that you are at fault for Ed leaving the PG due to his failing health from the stress caused by the weekly chats with nutcase Steeler's fans?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
Ed loved chatting with his many fans

Say the Steelers have a 2-3 year window left with Ben. Will they "mortgage the future" a bit in their team building/salary cap management to try to get back up on the patriots in the SB count?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
Personally, I think they should to a degree. They have a Super Bowl-caliber roster that needs one or two missing pieces on defense. Don't mortgage the future but go get the players you need to make it work, especially as long as you have No. 7.

I think 2 of the top 3/4 picks need to be an OLB & DL so the team can move on from Dupree and Tuitt next offseason. I like Tuitt but he is not playing up to that contract and Dupree... Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
Not happening. Nor should it.

10:57
With Ben contract done do The Steelers extend anyone else before the season starts?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
At this point, probably not. Ben's cap hit increases slightly this year so that's not going to make it even more problematic.

We have 2 young, talented RBs on the roster and can sign a veteran RB post draft for depth - why do so many pundits continue to suggest a RB as an early target to draft?  What am I missing?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
You are missing nothing. They are the ones who don't understand what the Steelers think of their RB situation.

10:59
any chance we take a big space eating nose tackle early in the draft to help with the run defense on early downs???
Gerry Dulac
10:59
None. They rarely use a NT anymore, less than 25 percent of the time. So that's not happening.

Thanks for the chats, Gerry!  Has the P-G Summer NFL Chat schedule been determined, yet?  Have any plans been made to add a 3rd NFL Chat?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
Not yet, but Brian Batko, who formerly covered Pitt football, will join me and Ray starting tonight as the No. 3 guy on the Steelers. I'm sure he will be starting a chat soon as well.

Does tomlin or FO really have interest in rock ya sin or is this just smoke? Please say the latter
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Well, you can't call it smoke, because the Steelers aren't the ones generating the "smoke." Others are. But let me remind you of this -- the Steelers haven't used a No. 1 pick on a player from a non-Power 5 school since Troy Edwards in 1999. And how did that work out? So don't hold your breath.
Mikey
11:04
Gerry, please don't think I'm crazy on this... package Rudolph & the late 3rd pick to the giants and swap firsts. Get a devin. With bens extension Rudolph sits for 3 more years.
Gerry Dulac
11:06
It's not that crazy. Not saying that could or should happen, but let's face it -- if Ben stays healthy, Rudolph will be out of his rookie contract in 2022 and the Steelers will have no idea if he's the QB of the future.
Jon
11:06
Hey Gerry, do you think an impact player is going to be there at 20 or do the Steelers need to get to a higher pick?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Typically, there are only about 5 to 7 "elite" players in the draft. Doesn't mean you can't find them later, tho. Look at Troy, Shazier, both top 15 picks. Lev Bell, 2nd rd. Antonio Brown 6th round. James Harrison, free agent. They are everywhere

11:08
Morning Jerry! Thanks for the chats.  Do you think the Steelers could take Rock Ya Sin at number 20? And in your opinion, would that be too early for him?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
No I don't. Yes I do. And see earlier answer why they won't
Pete
11:09
Do you think the Steelers will draft a non mock draft predicted blue chipper like they did with Edmunds last year? If so, who might they target as a #20 pick possibility?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
That's always possible. If they do, it will be another safety, either Juan Thornhill, Darnell Savage or Johnathan Abram. But I don't believe they have a No. 20 grade on any of those guys. That's why I think it's possible they would trade down and still get one of those guys. It's possible, but not probable
Angelo Dell
11:11
Bottom Line Gerry, do we pick for our biggest need (ILB) and pay thru the nose to move up and grab one of the Devin's, or do we believe that drafting for need is BS, and we take highest player on our board at 20, no matter of position  (other than QB) because they really should sit the 1st year??what say you??
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Me, I go get the player I want and feel I need to help put me over the top. Do I give away the store? No. But I try like heck to package some kind of deal, even with a player, to get that guy. They know they are 1 or 2 defensive players away getting where they want to go. They think they got one of them in free agency. Go get the other.

Can you recall a Steelers draft as highly anticipated and with as much pressure as this one? And, if not, how much is a result of the reality of circumstances versus the heightened level of scrutiny due to social media, the proliferation of news outlets and the Internet?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I think the pressure/anticipation is heightened because of the daily proliferation of social media pontification.
Bob
11:14
I'm not looking for a name, but I am looking for a style.  What type of receiver do you think the Steelers would ideally like to get to replace AB?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
A productive one, doesn't matter if he's big or small. Ideally, it would be a quick out-of-the-breaks guy like the PIA who just left.
STEEL72
11:15
Gerry, given the Steelers draft history at CB and the fact that the transition to the pro level at that position is so difficult, I'm concerned about burning a first round pick on CB if the LBs are off the board. What is your gut feeling at the moment? None of the CBs appear to be game-changers. They each have some of the components and then question marks.
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Well, I don't totally disagree with you. But here's part of the problem: The Steelers believe they are only 2 inside LBs who are worthy of a No. 1 pick -- Devin White and Devin Bush -- and in all likelihood each will be gone by No. 20. And, of the safeties they like, I don't believe they have a No. 20 grade on any of them. So, if you're need is on defense, the couple players who might have a No. 20 grade on them are CBs, specifically Greedy Williams and Byron Murphy. But that's why I also always point up, don't be shocked if a WR or a certain TE is the choice.

I keep seeing people mock G. Williams to them in the 1st. Please tell me after the A. Burns debacle they have learned their lesson on that...
Gerry Dulac
11:20
He doesn't tackle very well, if at all. But, then, neither did Deion Sanders.

Why does Colbert year after year tell us that the best way to draft in the first round is best player available and yet the results show that the Steelers most often draft at positions of need, often taking lower graded players like Edmunds or Burns because of need? If they take a corner at 20 this year, it’ll be the same thing.
Gerry Dulac
11:21
They are going to take the best available player at one of their positions of need.

Hi ther Mr Dulac and now with the 64 000$$$ question...Will they move or not to get one of the Devins??? I hope they do. Thank you and have a nice day
Gerry Dulac
11:21
I'm sure they will try. In fact, I'm sure they have already tried. They wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't.
