Gerry, How does Bens deal effect cap space? Do we trade up now since we may have less money to sign 10 picks?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
I really would be shocked if they used all 10 picks. To me, that's a waste of time -- theirs and the player who they will eventually cut. I'd be shocked if they didn't package some of those picks to move up in one of the rounds, even if it's not the first round.

The Steelers spent a 3rd round pick on an insurance policy last year at qb. If ben plays out his new contract, Rudolph will become the next Landry jones. They made that decision at a time of high need for their defense. I think that decision hurt them last year, the way things have played out, but my point is, maybe it is a mistake to consider these picks sacrosanct. If they can use one of them to move up and get someone special for the defense, they should.

Ben would agree w you. And so do I.

What you be your out of nowhere, surprise draft pick they might make at 20?

Ben's extension means that, in the near-to-intermediate term, the team is hoping that at least one of the two young QBs turns out to be better than Landry Jones if Ben goes down. Was this at least somewhat wasteful, using a 3rd and 4th rd pick to upgrade the backup?  I know Ben was talking retirement when Dobbs was picked, but it seems like he had changed his tune well before Rudolph was picked last year.

Why did Ed really leave?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
I'll ask him.

Hi Gerry. Most experts have the Steelers targeting a WR in the 3rd round. What WR do you think the Steelers will take there?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Hey, I'm lucky I can get through the first round, let alone the third. I can answer that better after two rounds.

What are the chances that this was NOT Ben's last contract?
Gerry Dulac

Slim, but doesn't mean it won't be.

Why are we seemingly to the point of White/Bush or nothing in regards to addressing ILB?  Didn't Darius Leonard run around 4.7 pre-draft last year.  Thats about where Mack Wilson is right now.  There are other potential solutions to this need than just the Devin's, no?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
Not in the first round. But, unlike last year, they need to address the position even though they signed Mark Barron in free agency. If for no other reason than they lost LJ Fort in free agency and they really don't want to use Jon Bostic. BTW, I liked Leonard last year as a good fit for the Steelers.

A lot of mock draft having the Steelers taking Murphy from Washington.  Do you think he is truly a top 20 pick or do think the Steelers will again reach for the best CB or go somewhere else with the pick?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
I won't know, and they won't know, until he plays. I don't think they will reach, but I think they will take one of the 20 players they have rated on their board. And most of those are defensive players.

Did we pay big ben to much money
Gerry Dulac
11:30
Nope. You see what these other average QBs are making?
Moshe
11:30
It seems like we have a bigger need at safety and outside linebacker than inside and cornerback especially since sean davis has underperformed
Gerry Dulac
11:30
I disagree.

How much effort do you feel the Steelers will exert to get Bush it even White?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
I don't know but it should be a significant amount, in my opinion.

Is a first round CB in play?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Of course. Are you paying attention here?

I think this coming year the Steelers will play with that old saying of a "chip on their shoulders" after this past year. Team chemistry will be improved. Do you agree? Always appreciate your insight. Thank you
Gerry Dulac
11:32
I think they will be more focused/determined this year without the nonsense that has permeated the team and annoyed some of the players.

Trade up more likely in the second round or the first?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Second

Your mock pick at No. 1 was Byron Murphy.  Say he is gone when we pick at 20, and both Devins are gone.  Who do you pick?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
That's a good question. That's where a WR comes into play. Or a trade down.

Do you see Devin Bush falling all the way to pick 20? If not how high would the Steelers need to trade?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
No I don't, but the Steelers are hoping to see a run on QBs in the first round. That way, Bush and even White would get pushed down a little further in the first round -- not as far as No. 20, but closer to where it wouldn't cost as much to go get Bush. I think White is a top 10 pick either way.

Hi Gerry, do you miss working with Ed B? You guys are like Walther Matthau and Jack Lemmon.

He is odd, isn't he!!

Was it ever a consideration for the Steelers to let Ben play out the final year of his current contract, then franchise him for next season?  I don't see much upside in committing to a deal with cap hits of $26.2M, $33.5M, and $31.5M the next three years.
Gerry Dulac

Never

Say that at 3:00 this afternoon a Youtube video comes out apparently showing Devin White smoking a foreign substance with a gas mask, causing him to slide down draft charts. Do the Steelers pick him if he is still there at #20?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
Nope. And why would they want a player like that??
