Apologies for the late notice but Tuesday's storm as wrecked havoc on internal systems, power and internet. We will attempt to get this started soon or postpone to a later date.
Gerry Dulac

Ok, I'm up and running and I hope you are too. Sorry for the delay. Here we go....

Gerry:  Fields with the Jets, Dart with the Giants, and the trio of Pickett, Gabriel, and Shedeur in Cleveland are all QBs the Steelers could have easily secured for the long term. If one or two of those guys look like franchise QBs by the end of the season will Art Rooney hold anybody accountable and make any changes before the same staff sets up to pick a QB next year?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
First off, not easily. And why would the Steelers want Pickett (least of all), Sanders and Gabriel. And just because the Giants took Dart in the first round doesn't mean the Steelers wanted him in the first round

Gerry: if Rudolph would have played well in 2019 or vs Detroit in 2021, do you think they would have signed Trubisky and drafted Pickett in 2022?  Similarly, if he would have played well vs Buffalo in the playoffs would they have just committed to him instead of Fields/Wilson?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Probably would have still drafted Pickett and maybe would have still signed Trubisky. They always seem to give Rudolph the short end of the stick, no matter how times they wanted to say they were "comfortable" with him as their QB.

It's been pretty quiet on the TJ Watt front, should we expect talks to amp back up now that the draft is over? Or is this negotiation going to fall clear into August like the previous one had?
Gerry Dulac
10:42
And it's going to continue to be quiet on the TJ Watt front. Nothing will likely get done until summer
Howard

Hi Gerry, with the Steelers potentially looking towards the 2026 draft to find their "franchise QB",  pending drafting order, how "all in" do you feel they would go to getting a top draft spot should the QB they covet go inside the top 10?  It seems as if the Browns and Rams may already have a leg up on them for moving up the board if need be since they're holding 2 firsts each in next years draft.  Say the Steelers are stuck around 20 again, could you see them trading 2027's first rounder as well to move up?
Gerry Dulac
10:43
They have a plan and yes, they will have to make a package and trade up in the first round. That's where someone like George Pickens comes into play. Or, who knows, maybe some else who is very marketable.
Howard
10:43
Now that the draft is complete, what percentage would you put on Rodgers signing here, whenever that may be?  ARII seems like they still believe he will become a Steeler at some point
Gerry Dulac
10:44
No different than before the draft. It's not like the offer is being sweetened or anything like that. The Steelers believe he will be their QB. We'll see

Hey Gerry….last chat you assured me that one of the four top DLs would  be there when we picked.. And your insights served you well there.. do you think that maybe we got the best scheme fit person out of those four?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
I said top three, assuming Graham would be gone, and he was, but I get your point. They liked all three. In fact, different coaches preferred different players. But I think they got the best mix of run and pass with Harmon. I really think it came down to Harmon or Grant of the three, but the choice was made for them and they were very content with that

What kind of draft capital could we get for trading Watt to a contender? He is clearly declining and will be 31 years old this season plus has an extensive injury history. Extending him would be the definition of insanity at $40M.
Gerry Dulac
10:46
Clearly? Insanity? I wouldn't go that far
Josh
10:46
Russini reported the Cowboys had trade interest in Pickens during the draft, do you believe that was just a possible check in to see what the asking price would be, or were there actual negotiations that fell through?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
There were no negotiations. Sure, lots of teams, including the Steelers, make lots of phone calls, before and during the draft. Doesn't mean it's serious dealing.

How much longer will the media obsess over Sanders?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
I was sick of it Thursday.

Hi Gerry! does everyone think Will Howard's that bad that he can't be a franchise quarterback because what i have seen   he seems to have alot of talent and with a little bit of  coaching he can a great starter
Gerry Dulac
10:49
I'm not going to call him a franchise QB, but I think he can be a decent backup. And I don't know how many of you remember that over two months ago I dropped his name as a potential Steelers interest.

Good additions to the defense in the draft. Some run stoppers were needed. Now, Kahn needs to give the defense back to the DC so Tomlin doesn't ruin THIS defense. Tomlin is not very good with the D.
Gerry Dulac
10:50
It's not Khan's choice, but I get your point. And I don't think we're gonna see that happen.

With the Ryan Watts injury it made me want to ask, what financial benefits will a player released when injured receive?  Do they get the rest of their contract?  Do you have any info on what compensation Watts will get?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Steve, I do not, but I'm sure there is something in the contract in the event of a potential career-ending injury

10:50
Good morning Gerry, What length of a contract do you think the Steelers are willing to go with TJ Watt? Any possibility they’d move on from him at this point?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
I think it will be a three-year deal. Look, if they gave Cam Heyward a pretty big three-year contract at 35, don't you think they will do the same for the 31-year-old Watt, who plays the most important position on the defense.

Gerry, assuming both Harmon and Black have a good offseason, are Heyward, Harmon and Benton the starting three and Black only gets on the field at first in short yardage?  Could you see Black eclipse Benton?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
No. Black will be part of a rotation, but you will see him a lot in short yardage, provided he proves he is up to the task

Hello Gerry . Thank you for the chat. Right before the draft , you said on the Rich Eisen Show that “ Steelers have first round grade on Dart and they really like Shaedur as well “ . Then yesterday you allegedly said on Rich Eisen Show that “ Steelers never intended to draft Shadeur “ . So if they really liked Shadeur , why did they not intend to draft him ? Thank you .
Gerry Dulac
10:53
They had other preferences and players they liked more

Morning Gerry!  Agree 100% with your grades from the draft.  Omar and Andy keep building through the trenches and love first few picks. Sawyer will be a menace on teams and give TJ/Highsmith enough breathers to keep everyone fresh.  Great locker room guy and guarantee he will see the field and make plays. Fans will LOVE Sawyer!  I also applaud the Black and Howard picks.  Time will tell.  Cheers bud

Good Morning Gerry... Thanks for your Draft coverage.. The Gruden film session with Howard was fascinating.  He seems to have Steeler "DNA".  From your view.. what's missing from his game that makes him a pick in the 6th  VS Ben being a first?  He seems to have the Size, demeanor and temperament under pressure in the big games.  I hope the kid shows something thru mini camps.  Cheers
Gerry Dulac
10:54
I wouldn't want to compare him to Ben because that's the difference between a No. 1 pick and a sixth-round pick. But I like the guy.

Hi Gerry. I started looking at Will Howard after he was drafted. He reminded me of Dak Prescott. I went back and compared the draft profiles for Will and Dak and interestingly they were both given a 5.90 Average backup or special-teamer prospect grade. If Will Howard's ceiling is Dak Prescott the Steelers may have found their QB. Am I wishful thinking?
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Wishful. Hopeful. But you never know. Like I said, if nothing else, I think they have found a nice backup QB if nothing else.
10:56
Zamo: Pickens KNOWS this is an important year and has 50-100M on the line right?  Keeping him makes the most sense correct?  We had no #2 last year and if GP acts a fool, he’s essentially throwing away generational changing money.  Why trade him now?  Glad they didn’t (for now) and excited to see what he and DK can do.  Thoughts?
10:57
The trade deadline doesn't end till November. Why trade him now? If you do, then you're right back where you were -- with one quality receiver and a bunch of fill-ins.
